i think once a thing has been around long enough for. two generations to know it. three for sure. they can only make new versions of the thing using the capital labor of those who grew up with the thing and its fandom already being pre-established institutions. they arent making something in the spirit of the original- theyre only making another thing like that one for other fans to watch. and especially for a franchise like star wars that doesnt need to prove itself, new films can only serve this amazing cynical purpose.
