It is an amazing manga with an almost entirely LGBT+ cast and talks a lot about gender identity, sexuality and troubles faced by those within the LGBT+ community (especially for younger members). Also it is fucking BEAUTIFUL.
Kamatani Yuukiâs use of imagery and visual metaphors never fails to take my breath away.
Please just read the damn manga.
I personally had an emotional breakdown because of this manga having a character I felt so connected to so definitely give it a read my dudes.
guys itâs getting an official North American release!
Volume 1 will be out on May 7th!
I also want to point out that thereâs ace/aro rep in this series too!
I was absolutely shocked, never expected to see that kind of rep in manga, but itâs there! The author identifies as X-gender and asexual, so itâs LGBT+ rep being written by an LGBT+ author!
Itâs a really great series!!
The thing I love about cats is that theyâre basically born ready to throw down. Thereâs something strangely life-affirming about seeing a ball of fuzz that could fit in the palm of your hand with room to spare react to an unfamiliar creature literally a hundred times its size by going âI roll Intimidationâ.
#the really life affirming part is that sometimes it works
cats donât give a fuck and they will slap the shit out of whoever they want

A disabled local cartoonist who has worked on some of his industryâs most iconic characters â from Mighty Mouse and Betty Boop to Richie Rich and Felix the Cat â says his landlord is kicking him out and he now has no place to go. According to Milton Knight, 55, the conditions at his Altadena âŚ
Animator/cartoonist/painter Milton Knight (Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Cool World, Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat) is a dear friend of mine and is in desperate need for financial help. Please consider helping him out via his GoFundMe pageâŚ
@mrargent isnât this that guy you like?
Yup, one and the same. Heâs one of my all-time favorites, up there with Ralph Bakshi, Herge and Bill Watterson - Itâs absolutely damn infuriating that anyone has to go through this, not even mentioning the fact that the dudeâs a pretty big deal. Heâs not only what Iâd call one of the most significant cartoonists of the early â90s for his contributions to Sonic the Hedgehogâs art direction as well as his comics, but also essentially one of the granddaddies of Youtube Poop and all the web culture that implies.

Yonen gently pulled Kiyo into a hug before stepping away. He shrugged gently as he let Elias past him. âIts quietâ he murmured.
âAnd Iâm sure you will manage to catch him for good this time. He can only run for so longâ Elias chipped in with a soft smile. He held Cya close for another moment before finally letting her slide until her feet were on solid ground again âI never expect them even when you tell meâ He murmurs, âAnd shes picking up Anthony later if you wish to wait. Sheâll be here tonight, it can be a surpriseâ He suggested softly, shifting as he held out an arm in offering to Kiyo since she was now closer having just hugged Yonen. Â
Demetri laughed softly at Kiyohshi, waving a hand dismissively âI wasnât actually going to leave, I said it more to annoy Elias. Especially since he knows if I so much as mention it later when Kaiâs here sheâll just whisk me awayâ He pointedly ignored Elias derisive snort while he turned his attention to Caylee, âWell its a pretty nickname, sounds like something Kai would doâ He said with a soft smile. At her question though he hesitated, glancing up until his blue gaze met soft red ones. After a subtle nod Demetri took in a slow breath âAh, well Iâm actually her brotherâ He murmured sheepishly, lifting a hand to scratch at the back of his head, further messing up his bronze tresses.
Kiyohshi smiled as she was hugged, relaxing into the hug just slightly. The tavern owners were indeed special to her, and not just because of her sister. âExcept when Cya and I are around, right?â she teased. She looked at Elias and smiled, nodding. âThatâs the hope. But right now, the safest place for us is here, where Angel canât get even if he tried.â she leaned into the offered arm of the redhead, humming softly. âThanks, Eli.â
âWell, I haven;t broken a promise yet. Maybe start listening.â the little princess teased. Caylee was barely five feet eight inches, but she was used to being picked inches off the ground with ease, especially when she was on Earth. She smiled at the fact that Kai would be there. âAwesome, it can be a total a surprise, I havenât called her yet!â she replied. Her face lit up as she heard Anthony was going to be there and she bounced a little. âTonyâs coming home? We hit the jackpot coming back today.â she said, grinning. It revealed faint fangs on her canines and she turned her attention to Demetri again. She laughed softly and nodded. âWell, Kai and I were likeâŚsix? I think? Iâve known her basically my whole life. Aside from having to go home and be told Iâm not princess-y enough by Kris.â she shrugged. âI wonât ever have the throne anyway, so itâs kind of obnoxious, but yeah. I met her when we were kids.â She gave a curious head tilt when he didnât answer, looking much like a walking feline with the movement. Hearing the words, she gave a gasp and moved to hug him. âWell, Iâm glad she found you. Welcome to the family, even though I guess Iâm the last one to tell you that.â she teased.Â
Yonen smiled softly at Kiyo, and expression that rarely graced his features unless in the presence of those he cares about "Yes of course? Unless you two are here" he murmured.
Elias nodded, "Yeah, of course. This is probably one of the safest places on this world. I'm glad y'all came here" He grinned, eyes sharp but happy. "No need to thank me Kiyo" Elias looked back down at the much smaller girl, his grin turning into a crinkled smile. "You know me, selective hearing and all that." He huffed softly on a laugh, amused by her and then her excitement. "He does live here ya know, he just happens to be visiting his mom today" Elias said softly, too happy about the girls arrival to let any sad emotions about his sons mom affect him.
Demetri watched all of them interact with a soft smile. Now that he knew their names he instantly recognized them as the adopted family Elias went on about so often. He could tell how excited the older men were, even Yonen which made him want to laugh, and it made him happy. When Caylee's attention turned back to him he gave her his own full attention. "Kai always had problems with names when she was younger, she loved giving people nicknames. I'm glad to see that hadn't changed." He mused, a tad quieter with an air of sadness. "Although I understand throne issues, Eli complains enough about them" he laughed, drifting into thoughts of stories of his sister as she grew up with Elias, the runaway king. He startled back out of his thoughts when the tiny woman moved to hug him. He stood there for a second stunned, not use to such open affection from anyone but Elias and Kai. He wondered if it was a feline thing, even if Kai wasn't part feline she had been raised by one. He huffed an amused laugh, dragging himself back to reality as he gently wrapped his arms around Caylee, "Saying she found me is rather accurate. And you may be the last to tell me but it never grows old hearing the words so thank you" he murmured, taking a step back as he released here. His eyes closed with a soft smile, head tilted in a way that hinted at the canine in him.
Caylee was looking around when the voice spoke annd she spun. Her cloak twirled like a wide brimmed skirt with her movement as she did, the cloth twirling about her legs as she stopped before settling with no more movement of its ownerâs body and falling back behind her. âYoni-sama!â She cheered, vanishing in a blur before appearning in front of him and opening her arms. She knew by now that while Yonen wasnât affectionate per se, he did show it to a rare few people. âWe came home. Kris didnât like me moping around.â She said, grinning up at the silver haired male.
âWell, thatâs a fair part of it.â Kiyohshi said as she walked in, taking off her jacket to hang on the rack by the door. âMostly he wanted us safe, given Angel has once again managed to break out and is on the lamb doing God knows what Iâm another murder attempt scheme.â She said, walking over. âAre you the only one here?â She asked, tilting her head a little.
Caylee huffed. âAngel doesnât scare me anymore, Kiyo.â She lied with ease, very few people knew just how terrified her older brother made her. She looked up at Yonen and gave a smile. âHey Yoni-sama, I made you something. Eli and Kai, too.â She moved her cloak to pull a worn grey messenger bag from her side and opened the zippered pocket on the flap. âI mean, they arenât the best, donât judge. But it was fun.â She pulled out three keychains, pulling one that looked as if it was supposed to be a piano up and holding it out to him. âThis one is yours.â
As her sister spoke, the older princess rolled her eyes and moved to the bar. âGeez, canât a girl get a beer around here?â She said in a playfully dramatic nature as she watched the other men enter. âElias, hello. What are doing, playing shy now?â She teased, pausing as she spotted the other male. âWhoâs the kid?â
Yonen huffed, a small smile curving his lips as he reached out and tugged her into his long arms for a short but loving hug. Pulling back he watched her as she talked, listening to the two girls banter back and forth before putting all his attention back on Caylee as she rummaged through her bag. âIâm glad youâre back, regardless of the circumstances.â He murmured lowly, stepping back just a little to put some space between them as he glanced up at Kiyo who was now by the bar. He nodded in her direction, a small smile tilting his lips to convey heâd hug her as well if she was closer.Â
Elias and Demetri at that moment managed to get out of the kitchen, Eliâs expression brightening instantly upon seeing who it was. Circling his arms around Yonenâs waist he leaned against the maleâs back to peer over one slim shoulder at the smaller girl before them âHey Cya-chan, you have something for me?â He managed to respond just as Kiyo chose that moment to be all dramatic, even if playfull. He couldnât help but snort as he diverted his attention before either Caylee or Yonen could respond to him, pulling back just a little to grin at the woman across the bar.
âIâm going to ignore the shy comment and warn you the best way to get drinks is probably by asking nicely, and having better taste than to ask for beer.â Eli retorted with a grin, removing one arm from Yonenâs waist he turned to reach back and grab Demetriâs shoulder. âAh, this is Demetriusâ Elias started, his grin turning just a little more wicked at the males instant flare of despair, âDemetrius this is Kiyohshi, and the adorable one over here is Cayleeâ he continued with clear amusement, removing his hand from Demetriâs shoulder to wave at the two women respectively.Â
Demetri reeled back upon being called a kid only to start sputtering at Eliasâ instant response âDemetri!â He cried out, flushing when he realized exactly how dumb that sounded âI mean, call me Demetri. I donât go by my full name with anyone but this old manâ He huffed, glaring playfully at the red-head beside him.Â
Yonen hummed softly, ignoring the chatter happening around him as he carefully reached out for the small keychain. He took the small piano shaped object in the palm of his pale hand and curled long fingers around it slowly. Raising it for inspection he stared at it for a moment or two, just long enough to hear Demetri squawking at no doubt something Elias said, before he responded. âI adore it, thank youâ He murmured lowly, leaning forward out of Eliasâ grasp just enough that he could press a gentle kiss to her forehead, his free hand coming up to ruffle her long strands gently.Â
Caylee gave a squeak as she was hugged, nuzzling the older man a little. Being part cat meant her natural state was to give afection to those she loved. âMeh, Angel is no big deal. Heâs marked a taditor, he canât pass through the wards in Rikaita even if he tries.â She said, nodding matter-of factly. âIâm glad to be home.â She replied.
Kiyohshi smiled at her sister and Yonen, nodding a little at him. âIâll get mine in just a second. Racing Cya is always exhausting.â She teased, looking at the pair stumbling in. âYou know Iâm kidding. But a cold beer sounds nice after the evac back to earth. I donât know how Angel keeps finding ways out.â She looked worried for a moment, reaching up with her right arm to rub at her left side, where a scar had settled. She blinked and shook her head a little before looking up at the hunger male. âAnd because beer here has a smoother taste. Beer back home is more like whiskey.â She looked at Demetri and gave a smile. âI think I like Demetrius better. If only to pick on ya. Unless youâd rather I call you kid?â She joked.
Caylee laughed at Elias and Kiyohshi. âDonât be mean, sis.â She said, balancing as she leaned to her left to look at him around Yonen and smile. âNice to meet you, Demetri. Most everyone calls me Cya around here, but Caylee is fine if youâd prefer.â She assured, looking at Yonen as the taller male examined the keychain. She grinned as he approved, laughing as he ruffled her hair. âIt sucks, but Iâm not good at metal working like Kris is.â She explained. âHe offered to remake rhem, but I said no.â She plucked another keychain up, the object questionable between a tailed blob or a very chubby cat painted a copper-orange. âHere, Eli-san, this one is for you.â She offered. âA kitty.â
Yonen chuckled, a soft smile tugging his lips âWhether heâs a big deal or not I wonât let any harm come to you here, if he somehow manages to escape.â He responded, voice its typical smooth cadence. âI am glad you have come home as wellâ He glanced at Kiyo âThe both of youâÂ
Elias laughed softly âWhy would you even race her? You know Nekoâs are ridiculously fast, especially on familiar turfâ He shook his head, his grin softening a little âI know, I was just teasing, and Iâll get you one when youâre ready. We still keep your brand in stock ya knowâ He faltered, as if he had revealed something he hadnât meant too. A soft squeeze to his hand caused his red eyes to flash towards Yonen, who wasnât even paying attention to him in any obvious manner and he relaxed. âIâm sorry to hear Angel keeps escaping though, hes such a nuisance.âÂ
Demetri groaned, rocking back on his heels away from the woman âOh no, youâre just like Elias arenât you?â he dug one hand into his tresses, hanging his head slightly âI already canât handle itâ He turned his head to look at Eli âI change my mind, I totally can crash at Kaiâs placeâ He joked, with only a small hint of despairing truth. Upon hearing the younger female, the one who appeared to be his age addressed him he diverted his attention to her. His eyes widened slightly as he took in her beautiful face but otherwise he kept his reaction to himself âAh, no unlike some people I call those by what theyâd prefer. If you like Cya then I can call you thatâ He grinned, waving a hand in Elias pouting face to ward off the males sputtering protests about him not actually leaving.Â
Elias gave up on getting Demetri to take back the idea of leaving and spun around to see what Cya was holding out for him. Instantly he cooed as he reached for the small object âThis is definitely going on the house keysâ He stated, eyes darting to meet amused dark blue ones as Yonen snorted at him. Using the arm he hadnât removed from Yonenâs waist to shift the male he moved the taller man out of his way and shifted forward to scoop the girl up into a big hug âHey, welcome back and thank you. Its perfectâ He murmured into her hair.Â
Caylee smiled. âI know. I can always count on you and Eli-san.â She said, smiling softly. She didnât miss the look between Yonen and her sister, giving a quiet giggle as she moved to twirl her cloak off and put it up.
Kiyohshi huffed in an indignant manner. âSheâs part vampire, too. I thought I had it this time.â She replied, arching a brow. âYou two miss me that much?â She teased. She hopped down and moved closer so she could give Yonen a hug. âI wouldnât trust her to be safe anywhere else. Except Kaiâs place, of course.â She needed some kind of reassurance she was okay, and that her sister was safe. âWeâll get him, eventually. And he wonât escapeâŚI hope.â She replied. Hearing Demetri, she arched a brow. âYou can stay, Iâm playing. You like Demetri, Iâll call you Demetri.â She assured.
Caylee smiled at him and stepped forward to hold out her hand, a blush on pale cheeks as he spoke. âThank you. Kai started the Cya, it just kind ofâŚstuck around. Iâm used to it now.â She said, squeaking as Elias scooped her up. She laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck. âI told you Iâd being presents. I was hoping Kai would be here so I could give her hers, too. We can call her, though.â She looked at Demetri and smiled again. âHow do you know Kai, Demetri?â She asked curiously.
Yonen gently pulled Kiyo into a hug before stepping away. He shrugged gently as he let Elias past him. âIts quietâ he murmured.Â
âAnd Iâm sure you will manage to catch him for good this time. He can only run for so longâ Elias chipped in with a soft smile. âHey! Iâm back! And I brought a stray with me!!â Elias called out upon entering the door digging out the items from his pockets and dumping them on the kitchen counter as he made his way there. âHey!! You here?â he ran his hand blindly across the wall before he found the switch to flick on the light. Elias blinked while his eyes adjusted to the bright kitchen light. He tilted his head to listen for any noise but heard nothing. He shrugged as he moved to open the fridge, he looked over his shoulder as Demetri walked through the door âI think Yonen is out, want a beer?â
Demetri looked disgruntled before shaking his head. âGod Elias, and you wonder why people think youâre a bad parent. Iâm not technically legal yet!â Demetri huffed, flopping down into one of the kitchen chairs and resting his arms across the table âIâll take a coke though if you have itâ He smiled when he saw Elias pouting at him but didnât reply as the man brought him a soda before sitting across from him.
âI take offense to that but I wonât argue, Iâm pretty sure Iâll constantly forget how old Anti is once heâs your age⌠besides in Illusia we donât have this of age bullshit.â Elias grunted, leaning back as he popped open his beer and took a sip. Demetri shrugged noncommittally before he took a few sips of his drink âYeah well here on Earth we have age limits because humans can be pretty idiotic at my age. You wouldnât believe it.â he huffed slightly, an obvious mixture of a snort and a laugh, âAnyways Iâm just down for a few days on an assignment and since I was in the area I thought Iâd stop by while I was around.â
Elias smiled at Demetri softly before he shook his head just ever so slightly âWhen are you going to stop doing these assignments? I understood why you took on killing all the members of the gang that did whatever it is to your family but⌠you really didnât need to become a professional hitman. This isnât good for your health, mental or physicalâ as Elias said the last word he waved a hand in Demetriâs general direction, showing that Demetriâs weight loss had not gone unnoticed.
In response Demetri groaned and rubbed his face âElias, god, please stop. I just, I have nothing else okay? At this point I donât even know what else to do. Iâve been doing this for so long now its just who I am.â he took another sip of his soda before he glanced up at his friend, his pseudo dad, sighing and placing his head down on his arms âPlease, please just donât start this today. I know youâve taken care of me for over ten years now and youâre worried, but please.â
Elias smiled weakly down at his friend, reaching over to gently ruffle the bronze tresses âMaa Demetrius, as you have said I have watched over you for more than ten years now. I cannot help but worry, you know thatâ Eliasâ voice was soft, taking on that tone he quite often used when trying to sooth one of his siblings or his son, or even the many children constantly in his care.
âAno, you do realize telling Elias not to worry is pointless. He doesnât have the âdonât worryâ function.â A deep voice suddenly spoke up from behind Elias causing the man to jerk and turn around quickly. Demetri also reacted by straightening upon hearing the voice but relaxed the second he recognized the older male.
Yonikusu, often referred to as Yonen, stood six foot seven. He had a very wiry yet fit frame, that only seemed to make him look even taller. He was naturally pale which only ever seemed more so in comparison to his naturally silver hair. Dark blue eyes that always seemed guarded stared at them more openly now as he came through the door wearing a white tank top that hung loosely across his body and sweat pants. Sweat was trickling down his face and neck easily soaking his shirt with it.
âAhhh, Yonen you scared me!â Elias cried before he jumped from his seat to go greet the male. Demetri just eyed the two taking another sip of his soda.
âElias, youâre part cat I shouldnât be able to sneak up on you at all, you knowâ Yonen mumbled as the younger male wrapped his arms tightly around his waist ducked his head against Yonenâs neck. Yonen rested his chin atop copper tresses and looked over at Demetri, completely ignoring Eliasâ mumbled excuses.
âHello Demetri, it has been a while but you seemâŚwellâ Yonen voice was soft, civil but to trained ears the undercurrent of hostility was ever present. Demetri twitched slightly, unnerved by the manâs presence as he had always been. He would probably never understand how two completely opposite personalities could get along so well the way Elias and Yonen did; âYes well, I have an assignment close by thought I would drop in.â Demetri muttered, looking away as he wiped his palms against his pants.
âMm, of course, I heard such.â Yonen replied in such a way it was obvious he was dismissing their conversation, turning to look down at Elias he pressed a gentle kiss to the maleâs forehead.
âAnthony make it to his motherâs okay?â Yonen murmured, smiling when Elias huffed but nodded. âYeah I picked this stray up on the way homeâ Elias murmured, humming softly.

Kiyohshi Hikari walked along the sidewalk that ended with a dead end at the edge of the very large forest. The twenty-seven year old wore simple dark grey jeans that clung to her form naturally, the bottom hem covering the higher part of leather boots that ended just below her knee and tied at the back. A slightly baggy t-shirt with a wolf designn clad her upper half, the v-neck complimenting her curves as she walked with a denim jacket on. Most of her pale skin was hidden beneath fabric, but she had just enough color to her skin to be just slightly pale. She paused to turn back, sapphire eyes looking curiously back towards her companion through choppinly layered ebony tresses. "Cya, kid, come on. The tavern is a safe place. He cant cross into this realm.â
Her voice caught the attention of the smaller girl hidden under a ruby cloak that appeared too small for the piece of wardrobe. The figure turned and the hood fell off, revealing dark hair and hazel eyes. Caylee Hikari, Cya to most everyone who knew her, was a young seventeen year old. She was the second oldest princess to their realm Rikaita. Finding passage from their realm to earth had not been easy, but when her older brother Angel, who was also the twin brother to Kiyohshi, began claiming the lives of hiabother five siblings, their eldest brother and Long and Rikaita had ordered they discover a way to keep the royal family safe. The pair of sisters had been coming and going at various points for many years now, and the Tavern hidden in the Texas woods was a perfect place to make home again. âComing Kiyo.â She said, moving into a run to catch up. The cloak was pulled behind her shoulders as she moved, revealing blue jeans that weâre bootcut, as well as a red plaid shirt that fell just past her hip and angled from left to right. Black tennis shoes were laced on her feet and she seemed unbothered by the cloakâs movements. It had been her motherâs and sheâd kept it safe until she was able to wear it; which she did only when traveling. âHopefully Eli-san is there. I canât wait to give the little keychain I made.â
Kiyohshi chuckled at her little sister, pausing just inside the tree line out of view from the humans. âRace you to the tavern?â She asked.
Caylee smirked. âSure, but donât cry when I win.â She teased, moving to crouch.
âOne. TwoâŚâ kiyohshi paused. âThree!â She took off into a Sprint through the path she knew, but she heard no movement around her.
Caylee moved to jump as three was called out, hopping from tree to tree like a little feline. She knew the forest better than her sister, having gotten lost more times than she could count. She knew all the shortcuts and was quick to pass her sister as she jumped from a high branch to the ground, dirt flying up as she landed and rolled, righting herself and sprinting up to the large tavern. She slid to a stopp, her cloak fluttering back around her as she looked up, panting. Looking around, she grinned as she didnât see or hear her sister before walki mg up the stairs to enter the building. âEli-san! Yoni-sama!â She called.
Elias startled slightly, shifting back in Yonenâs arm at the sound of a voice calling out, âIs that...?â He trailed off, eyes narrowing in confusion even as trembles of delighted anticipation raced down his spine. Yonen released the male and moved towards the kitchen door with a speedy grace that was normal for him. âOnly one way to find out.â The silver haired man said, voice back to being void of any emotion as he moved towards the kitchen door.
Elias glanced over at his younger companion, who despite still sitting in the chair was doing so as straight as possible, obvious curiosity filling the boys blue eyes. âWell come on, we might as well go see if it's who I believe it to beâ Elias huffed.
A sharp grin split across the younger male's face, showing sharp white canines as Demetri practically flashed out of his chair, eager in his movements to figure out who possibly could have come here. In all his time coming here he had never actually seen anyone else at the tavern. Although he had of course heard about many travelers as well as the others whom Elias had grown to claim as family whom off and on lived here. Elias merely rolled crimson eyes, huffing as he reached out to ruffle bronze tresses. Demetri barely contained a squawk of indignation, swatting at the mans hands as they stumbled around each other out the kitchen door.Â
Yonen by this point had made it out of the kitchen and into the bar area, eyeing the familiar figure who was standing in the doorway. His gaze tracked everything about her quickly, cataloguing everything as he stepped out from behind the bar into the open area âAh, Caylee?â He asked, moreso to draw her attention his way than to clarify whom it may be. He already knew it had to be the young princess.Â
The Tavern.
"Hey! He shrugged as he moved to open the fridge, he looked over his shoulder as Demetri walked through the door âI think Yonen is out, want a beer?â Demetri looked disgruntled before shaking his head. âGod Elias, and you wonder why people think youâre a bad parent. Iâm not technically legal yet!â Demetri huffed, flopping down into one of the kitchen chairs and resting his arms across the table âIâll take a coke though if you have itâ He smiled when he saw Elias pouting at him but didnât reply as the man brought him a soda before sitting across from him. âI take offense to that but I won't argue, Iâm pretty sure Iâll constantly forget how old Anti is once heâs your age⌠besides in Illusia we donât have this of age bullshit.â Elias grunted, leaning back as he popped open his beer and took a sip. Demetri shrugged noncommittally before he took a few sips of his drink âYeah well here on Earth we have age limits because humans can be pretty idiotic at my age. You wouldnât believe it.â he huffed slightly, an obvious mixture of a snort and a laugh, âAnyways Iâm just down for a few days on an assignment and since I was in the area I thought Iâd stop by while I was around.â Elias smiled at Demetri softly before he shook his head just ever so slightly âWhen are you going to stop doing these assignments? I know youâve taken care of me for over ten years now and youâre worried, but please.â Elias smiled weakly down at his friend, reaching over to gently ruffle the bronze tresses âMaa Demetrius, as you have said I have watched over you for more than ten years now. The beginning
Elias came across often as very serious and stoic to those who didnât know him. He stood 6â6â with a slender but solid build. His skin was a soft tan that was clearly sun-kissed moreso than natural. His hair was long and shaggy, falling in uneven layers to frame his face with its textured bright copper color. The color of his hair only made the deep redness of his eyes that much more intense. He had well sculptured facial features accented well by the sharp straight angle of his nose and the strength in his jaw. Â
Elias was typically quiet, troubled with the weight of a world that he never wanted. He was the second of six children. His father having passed when he was sixteen leaving him to be the next in line to take the throne in their world, Illusia. A beautiful place, yet was too much responsibility for an angry sixteen year old boy. Upon figuring out how to escape his world he easily found himself on a nearby planet, Earth and despite his odd looks he acclimated quite well.
Now almost thirty and a father of a small boy who looked identical to himself, Elias wasnât sure quite where his life was going. A troubled expression darkened his face, pulling his brows down deeply. His strides were long and determined, only adding to the âstay backâ aura he was pushing off as he headed to the edge of town, walking quickly.
âYo! Elias!â A voice cried out, âElias man, yo, wait up!â
Eliasâ head twitched slightly to the left upon hearing his name, although the motion would go unnoticed to anyone not watching him. Elias shifted his weight to his left foot as he came to a sudden stop, shifting his weight fully so he could twist his body just enough to look over his shoulder. Copper bangs brushed across red irises as they searched the near empty street for the owner of the voice.
A young male appeared almost suddenly from the shadows of a building a few 100 feet away. The male was tall, most likely 6â4â, and had a very muscular build. His hair was shaggy but shorter than Eliasâ own. The coloring was a mixture of natural dark bronze, with streaks of blonde and a hint of red that went well with sapphire blue eyes. The younger was naturally tan although he leaned more towards an olive shade in coloring. He was currently waving one long slender arm above his head frantically, only stopping upon seeing Elias turn his direction.
âAh Demetrius!â Elias grinned, he lifted a hand to run long slender fingers through his shaggy copper hair while he waited on his friend. Once he brushed the long bangs from his eyes he tilted his head in curiosity.
âMah, what the heck Elias donât call me my full name!â Demetri groaned, rubbing his hand across his face roughly. This caused Elias to laugh while shaking his head before turning back in the direction he had been previously walking. He knew that Demetrius would just follow. âAhh but then what shall I call you my friend? If you havenât forgotten I have called you Demetrius since you were ten.â Elias chuckled, tilting his head to the right as he shifted crimson eyes to meet bright blue ones.
âElias, you know years back I started going by Demetri. I told you that, I mean, even Yoni-sama finally started calling me by Demetri! Which obviously was an improvement from bratâŚâ Demetri started enthusiastically before trailing off in a pouty manner. He only gained more chuckles from the elder man before the other man spoke âYou know Yonen means well, it just took him awhile to warm up to you.â Elias paused to look back at Demetri with a gentle expression âYou were kind of a brat to him when you guys first met, you really canât expect much else from him.â
Demetri grumbled under his breath something obviously arguing the fact that he had been a mere child at the time while he ran a hand through his unruly spiked tresses before releasing a heavy breath. âMan, I know but I was a kid dude, seriously!â Demetri shook his head while huffing, crossing his long arms across his chest.
âThen why donât you complain to Yonen about how long it took him to get over that incident,â Elias said lightly, waving a hand dismissively as he turned left to cross the street. âHowever I assume you havenât returned to tell me, again apparently, that you are going by a shorter name. What is it?â
Demetri shook his head and sighed âAlways straight to the point arenât you?â He mumbled, but the raised eyebrow he received from Elias was enough for him to cut further attempts to beat around the bush. âI need a place to crash for a few days. I figured it would be okay if I stay with you guys?â Heâd meant to say it as statement but it came out more as a question.
Elias threw his arms out in a wide dramatic gesture, nearly hitting Demetri in the stomach as he walked âSee was that so hard? You should have just started with that, really, then we could already be done discussing the fact that I would love to have you stay with us for a whileâ Elias threw his hands up in the air slightly, then shoved them back into his pockets. âBesides you know you are always welcome there. As is any stray that wanders by, as long as you donât bring trouble with you.â
Huffing, Demetri rolled his eyes and shoved his left hand against Eliasâ right shoulder attempting to push the man. However he only resulted in pushing himself away causing him to stumble. âDamnit, you know with our obvious build difference you would think I would be able to push you at this pointâ Demetri cursed, kicking at a piece of trash on the sidewalk.
âMaa Demetri, one day you will just have to admit that cat demons just trump vampires. Even if youâre part Kitsune. Obviously you are my inferior.â Elias grinned, dodging the fist he knew was coming seconds before it flew over his head even without having to turn around to know that Demetri was going to throw the punch.
âAh you jerk! I am not inferior to you!!â Demetri cried, about to take another swing when Eliasâ tan hand wrapped around his fist with ease. âCalm down, you know I was kidding. See this is why Yonen still treats you like a kid, you just get riled up too easyâ Elias spoke, voice low and calm. Demetri jerked his fist away and huffed indignantly, exactly as a child might.
âIâm about to be 21 you knowâ Demetri muttered, starting to continue their trek down the sidewalk briskly.
âWhy yes I do know, but that still makes you a child in our world. Well actually in your world it makes you a baby doesnât it? Vampires in this world live to be hundreds of years donât they, and kitsunes even longer?â Elias tilted his head, but knew his friend wouldnât be able to see due to Demetri now striding quickly ahead of him in clear annoyance. Upon receiving no answer Elias just sighed and slowed his pace, not caring if his friend got far ahead of him, they both knew the way to the tavern by this point so it shouldnât be a big deal.
Elias tilted his head back, whistling low and soft while he walked, staring up at the bright sky. It was a very pretty day in Texas, a strange event although not an unwelcome one. Elias, being a cat demon-thus part cat-loved to lounge around in the sun. Especially if he could find a nice patch of sun on the roof of the tavern. These were the kind of days he usually loved.
He sighed softly to himself as they ambled up to the Tavern. The tavern was a decent sized house-type building in the middle of a gigantic field, in an even larger forest. It stood two stories high and was practically a miniature hotel for wandering spirits. The front door led straight into a giant den-like area that held a bar and a dance floor. On the far end of the bar there was an open door that led into a very short hallway. A single large room was at the very end of the hallway with a shared hallway bathroom.
Behind the bar was another door that led into the large kitchen area where state of the art equipment was kept clean for Eliasâ many food adventures. There was two fridges, one that held food for the family and one they kept partially stocked for when guests did come wandering by. There was a large dinner table that could hold up to six people placed neatly at the back of the kitchen, out of the way. A door next to it had a sign hanging from it with the words âWine cellar. Beer hidden here tooâ sloppily written across it. A door next to it obviously led outside.
Across from the door that entered the kitchen a stairway led you to the bedrooms upstairs. Upstairs there were seven bedrooms total, three on each side along the hallway then at the far end, an extra room had obviously been added on after the place was built.
The place was typically empty most days, as humans rarely wandered out this far into the forest but for weary travelers amongst their world it was a safe haven for a night. Usually those who came never stayed the night though. They just had a few drinks a bite to eat and then were on their way. Over time this had become the normal routine for handling travelers and the rooms upstairs became claimed one by one through Eliasâ little makeshift family.
