writing warm up: sense swatches

this is inspired by swatching art materials – the idea is to get a feel for the tools you’re using. in writing, a common tip to make your writing engaging is to use all the senses, so i thought that could be a good way to make the general tool “words” more specific.

here’s my suggestion for how to do it: write five sentences, each one describing what you or your character can perceive with each of your five senses.

i think this is fun because i love swatches!!! the vast potential of the swatch page, what a blissful place. but i also love when writing gets tactile and textured, for me those are important descriptions to get in there, so that’s why i think this is a useful warm up!
