It starts casually.
Too casually.
Youâre both doing something normal scrolling, studying, lying on the couch, existing peacefully and then you turn to him and ask, out of nowhere:
âWhat would you do if we broke up?â
And every single member of Cortis reacts⌠differently.
Very differently.

Itâs late.
Martin is sprawled across the couch, one arm behind his head, the other holding his phone. Youâre sitting on the floor between his legs, back resting against his knees while he absentmindedly plays with your hair.
The room is quiet except for the TV humming softly in the background.
You tilt your head up slightly.
âMartin?â
He hums. âYeah?â
âWhat would you do if we broke up?â
His hand stops moving immediately.
Silence.
You can physically feel his stare on the top of your head.
ââŚWhat?â
You shrug casually like you didnât just drop a bomb. âIâm just asking.â
Martin leans forward, fingers gripping your shoulders gently so he can see your face.
âWhat do you mean if?â
âItâs hypothetical.â
Martin squints at you like you just offended him personally.
âWhy are we hypothetically breaking up?â
You bite your lip to keep from smiling. âJust answer the question.â
He stares at you for a long second.
Then he leans back slowly.
âI wouldnât.â
You blink. âYou wouldnât what?â
âBreak up.â
âThatâs not the question.â
Martin runs a hand through his hair, annoyed now. âOkay but why are we breaking up? Did I cheat? Did you cheat? Did you get tired of me?â
You shake your head quickly. âNo! Nothing happened!â
âThen why would we break up?â he presses.
You giggle. âItâs just a question.â
Martin narrows his eyes.
Then he says, quieter this time, âIâd probably lose my mind.â
Your smile fades slightly.
He shrugs like itâs nothing, but his jaw tightens.
âIâd act like I donât care. Iâd say something sarcastic. Iâd pretend Iâm fine.â He looks down at you. âBut I wouldnât be.â
Your heart squeezes.
Martinâs voice softens. âI donât do casual. You know that.â
You turn around fully now, kneeling between his legs.
âYouâd really lose your mind?â
He cups your face with one hand.
âYouâre my person,â he says simply. âI donât replace my person.â
You melt.
Then, because heâs still Martin, he addsâ
âBut weâre not breaking up. So donât ask dumb questions.â
You laugh, leaning into his chest.
âOkay, dramatic.â
He wraps his arms around you tightly.
âDonât joke like that,â he mutters into your hair.
And he doesnât let go for a long time.

James is in the studio, headphones resting around his neck while he adjusts something on his laptop.
Youâre sitting nearby, watching him work.
You donât even know why you ask.
âJames?â
âHmm?â He doesnât look up yet.
âWhat would you do if we broke up?â
He freezes.
Not dramatically.
Not loudly.
Just⌠still.
Slowly, he turns his chair toward you.
ââŚWhy would you say that?â
âI donât know,â you mumble. âI was just thinking.â
James studies your face carefully like heâs trying to see if youâre secretly unhappy.
âAre you trying to tell me something?â
âNo! Oh my god, no.â
He exhales softly.
Then he leans back in his chair, thinking.
âI think,â he says slowly, âIâd respect it.â
You blink. âWhat?â
âIf you wanted to leave, I wouldnât beg.â
That hurts a little.
James notices immediately.
He stands up and walks over to you.
âBut that doesnât mean I wouldnât be devastated.â
His hands slide into yours.
âIâd probably throw myself into work. Practice more. Write more. Stay busy so I donât think about it.â
Your chest tightens.
âAnd every song would probably be about you,â he admits quietly.
Your eyes soften.
James smiles faintly.
âBut I donât think weâd break up.â
âWhy not?â
âBecause we talk,â he says gently. âAnd I choose you. Every day.â
You step closer.
He presses his forehead to yours.
âSo donât scare me like that.â
You whisper, âIâm sorry.â
James kisses you softly.
âDonât go anywhere,â he murmurs.

Youâre both lying in bed.
The lights are off except for a small lamp glowing softly in the corner.
Juhoon is tracing lazy shapes on your arm.
âJuhoon?â
âYeah?â
âWhat would you do if we broke up?â
His hand stops instantly.
The room feels heavier.
ââŚDid I do something?â
âNo.â
âAre you unhappy?â
âNo!â
Juhoon shifts, propping himself up on one elbow to look at you.
His expression isnât angry.
Itâs worried.
âI wouldnât fight you,â he says after a moment. âIf you were sure.â
You stare at him.
âBut Iâd wait.â
âWait?â
He nods slightly.
âI donât fall out of love quickly.â
Your throat tightens.
âIâd probably still text you to make sure you got home safe,â he adds softly.
You blink back sudden tears.
Juhoon notices.
He immediately pulls you closer.
âHey. Hey. Why are you crying?â
âI donât know.â
He brushes your hair back.
âIf we broke up, Iâd still care about you,â he whispers. âThat doesnât just disappear.â
You bury your face in his chest.
Juhoon holds you tightly.
âBut I donât want to break up,â he adds, almost shyly.
You laugh softly. âGood.â
âGood,â he echoes.

Youâre sitting together at a cafĂŠ.
Seonghyeon is scribbling in his notebook.
You sip your drink casually.
âWhat would you do if we broke up?â
His pen stops mid-word.
He looks up slowly.
ââŚIs this research?â
You laugh. âNo.â
He studies you carefully.
Then he leans back.
âIâd write about it,â he says honestly.
âOf course you would.â
Seonghyeon smiles faintly.
âIâd romanticize it. Make it sound beautiful so it hurts less.â
Your chest aches.
âIâd pretend it was fate. Or timing. Or something poetic.â
You swallow. âAnd in reality?â
He closes his notebook.
âIn reality, Iâd miss you in quiet ways.â
Your breath catches.
âIâd reach for my phone to send you something funny,â he continues softly. âAnd remember.â
He looks at you gently.
âBut I donât think weâd break up.â
âWhy?â
âBecause Iâve never met someone who understands me the way you do.â
You reach across the table, squeezing his hand.
He smiles.
âAnd if we did?â you ask quietly.
Seonghyeon tilts his head.
âIâd still thank the universe for letting me love you once.â
You nearly cry in the cafĂŠ.
He laughs softly. âDonât cry. Weâre not breaking up.â

Keonho is mid-game when you ask.
âWhat would you do if we broke up?â
He dies in the game immediately.
âWHAT.â
You burst out laughing.
He drops the controller.
âWhy would you even say that?â
âItâs just a question!â
Keonho stands up dramatically.
âNo. No, absolutely not.â
You giggle. âAnswer it.â
He crosses his arms, offended.
âI would cry.â
You blink.
âLike⌠immediately,â he continues. âUgly cry. Snot and everything.â
You laugh harder.
âIâd post sad stories. Delete them. Post them again. Change my profile picture to something dark.â
âYouâre insane.â
âAnd then Iâd show up at your house.â
You raise an eyebrow. âOh?â
âNot to beg,â he says quickly. âJust to make sure youâre okay.â
Your smile softens.
Keonho walks over and crouches in front of you.
âBut I donât want to break up,â he says seriously now.
âI know.â
He grabs your hands.
âSo donât manifest that.â
You laugh, squeezing his fingers.
âOkay.â
He narrows his eyes.
âPromise?â
âPromise.â
He relaxes immediately and hugs you tightly.
âGood. Because Iâm attached.â
You giggle into his shoulder.
âVery attached.â
