Laura Kinney AKA X-23

Laura swallowed a laugh. “Are you good?”

She knew he was being genuine, that he really did want her to be ok, its just, with the way her life as gone it seemed like a bit of an understatement.  Nodding slowly Laura decided, “Good is…subjective. I’m not on the street, not being forced to sell myself.” She gulped, that was probably too much, he was her father after all, he didn’t want to hear about the unsavory things she’s had to do to survive. “I’m sorry you went through all of well…I can’t imagine seeing what you’ve seen has been easy. I guess neither of us have had it particularly easy.”  Laura starts to get up from her chair, does he need a hug? Does he want a hug? She knew neither of them were really the hugging type but this felt…necessary. Placing her arms tightly around him Laura decided, “I’m really glad you’re here Logan.” 

A scoffed laugh flies out of him as his head nods at first when she said good was subjective. Though his brain momentarily blue screens when the reality of the remaining of the statement hits him. This was his daughter, his little girl he had just met, took her into his heart and truly connected with not two full weeks prior to his possible death. Concern and rage battled for dominance within his heart and mind remaining in a stunned silence till his enhanced hearing picked up up the gulp in her throat. Logan releases his contained breath into a heavy sigh. “I’m sorry kid. Don’t know where I was in your world, but I obviously didn’t do what I shoulda to kept you safe. Don’t fault you for doin what you had to do to survive; cause I don’t have any room to talk. You deserved better though.” 

He shakes his head and takes a step closer. “Life for any mutant isn’t easy. From what I know ‘bout the beginning of your life, I’d argue it was worse than mine. But that's the past, your future is goin’ to be just fine.” Logan was determined to make sure no one ever hurt her like that again. Hugs wasn’t something he gifted often or easily; yet she was the ultimate exception. She was his kid and after that moment back on his world; that moment where he had allowed himself to feel the love and joy of being a father, he couldn’t go back. Yet at the same time, this version of her had never known him and that gave him pause.

     “I got your texts” Damian announced as he entered the room as if it also explained why he hadn’t responded to any of them. He wasn’t a big texter and besides, he had been on patrol. But that was beside the point. “You said that you wanted to talk, so…what’s up?” the youngest Wayne asked, moving to make himself comfortable on a nearby seat. He had been drawn to Laura upon his first time meeting her; something inside of Damian felt a kinship that he couldn’t explain which was most of the reason why he had given her the time of day in the first place.

Laura held back a laugh. “You want to take me…out? Usually when somebody says that to me they’re holding a gun.”  She raised an eyebrow, “But you’ve got my attention, New York’s a big place, where do you want to go?”

Cass’s eyes widened slightly. Has she made a mistake? She had been fairly sure that it was a common phrase, but maybe she was wrong. English was a difficult language to learn, and it had so many minutiae and strange turns of phrases that really didn’t make that much sense when you thought about them. 

She brightened when she realized that the other woman had understood. “For fun,” she clarified, smiling at her. “There is a cat cafe,” she said, her eyes widening a little again. “Where you can…adopt a cat. If you want one. It could be fun.”

Laura put her hands on her hips, Logan had told her about what had been going on with Warren. It was still surprising though he still seemed so…perfect. “I’ve been training my whole life,” she decided, “I just need to get some adrenaline out.”  She flipped the switch to the danger room and immediately half a dozen almost life like adversaries came charging towards them. Slice down, punch right, kick up.  Within a minute all the holographic enemies have dissolved and Laura turns back to Warren raising an eyebrow, “What else’ve you got to show me?”

“Sure but the Danger Room’s kinda-” Warren blinked with surprise when she’d flipped the switch on. She seemed even more impulsive than he was and that was saying something. It was pretty often that Warren was scolded for not listening. He flew head on into danger as if it were the easiest thing in the world. Maybe that was why he was paired with her- because she was quick to do the same. “-Dangerous…” He finished his sentence as half a dozen enemies appeared. She was quick to react. Fighting them quickly and fiercely. He couldn’t help but feel a bit impressed as he fought off one or two of them while she handled most of them effortlessly. Was he really this out of practice? He pondered, or was she that good? 

“Wow. You sure know how to handle yourself.” He told her with a laugh. She asked what else he had to show her and he paused. “What’s your thoughts on flying?” He finally asked, thinking about the blackbird. “Up for a joyride?”

Laura stood at the edge of the training room and looked around.  It was impressive to say the least, but it felt too much like the rooms she had been trained in as a child and that was somewhere she never wanted to be again.  “So, you got stuck showing me the ropes huh?”  She pops out her claws snikt viscerally aware of the pain but unwilling to acknowledge it. “Show me what this room can do.” 

“I guess so.” He replied. Though he wasn’t sure why out of everyone he was asked to show her around. Warren took some time off recently, flying around the country to focus a little more on his charity. To say that he hadn’t trained in a while was an understatement. Watching her claws pop out, he gave her a bit of a smile. She was like a smaller Logan. “You sure you want to try out the Danger Room? Most of us train before we try it out.”

Laura eyed the girl she was sitting next to skeptically, “Investigate? You want to investigate the facility that made me?”  She did her best not to laugh, Lyla either had a death wish or was completely oblivious.  “I mean I certainly won’t stop you, hell I’ll help you, but you’ve gotta understand that those people will not hesitate to murk the second they feel threatened.” 

“Yes I do.” the read head nodded. After hearing Laura’s story, Lyla knew she had to do something about it. The world had to know. Places like this…they couldn’t just exisit. They couldn’t just go unpunished. It wasn’t right. It wasn’t fair. “I’m not afriad to die.” she smirked, knowing she sounded a bit crazy. But it was the truth. “everyone dies. If im going down, at least im going down with a good reason.”

Laura leaned forward in her chair as she watched Logan carefully. She had heard about Logan, the Wolverine, she had been hearing about him for her entire life, for as long as she could remember. “Look, I know you said you had a daughter…in your time, whenever that is. But I’m telling you now, I’m Laura Kinney, and I’ve never met you before in my life.” She chewed on the inside of her cheek to keep herself from swearing, “I’ve heard more about you than I’d like though.”
