Damian Wayne

Lisa pauses when she hears the other’s voice addressing her but does not look over to him until he takes the jar away from her. With a smirk she looks up at him from her spot and watches him work the jar open. She appreciated his sass and couldn’t help but think: ‘hmm so this is what Lenny’s position in this situation feels like’. Taking the jar back from him, she keeps smirking in silence until he finishes asking his question. To which she leans a little closer to him and in a velvet tone she responded. “Until my dying day.” Pushing the jar to the side as if she has lost interest in it. “Whats your name?”

     “Tt. Stubborn.” Damian observed, although, he supposed that he could appreciate it. He too despised asking others for help, always determined to do whatever he needed to by himself. He had become incredibly resourceful because of it, in fact. “Damian. What is yours?” he asked, unsure so far if he actually cared all that much what her name is but it didn’t hurt to know it. Especially now that she knew his. “There are hills to die on and everything...but I’m not sure that a jar is one to stick your heels into the dirt over or anything..”

Cass smiled softly as Damian spoke. “Mmm,” she hummed, considering his words, thinking about the past few nights. “I…helped a woman. Get her purse back. From a mugger.” She smiled serenely. “I beat him up. He deserved it. She said thank you. She gave me…” She mimed unwrapping a candy. “A caramel. It’s yummy. Have you had one?” She smiled softly. “Fine?” she said. “Fine-fine or Damian-fine?” Meaning, actually fine, or was he just saying he was fine? She nodded, reaching out to pat his hand gently. “I would, too,” she said. She looked over at him, a little giggle leaving her lips. “The Mummy,” she said. “It was a little scary. But mostly funny.”

     Damian listened intently as Cass began to tell him about her patrols. It had never bothered him much that she didn’t talk all that much, after all, neither did he unless it was something that he was particularly passionate or irritated by. Sometimes both. “No, I don’t really eat candy” he shrugged softly, a small smile growing. “That sounds nice, though. Caramel is though, though....sometimes it’s nice, subtle, and other times it’s really sweet” he explained, wrinkling his nose. “Not for me” he explained with a gentle sigh. “I’m not sure that I know what that means” He absolutely knew what that meant, but Damian had never been good at opening up. Besides, none of it was worth worrying her with. “You have my number” Damian grinned. “Do you like scary movies?”

Amelia rolled her eyes as she heard the boy’s words. “It was a joke. You don’t think I genuinely thought cocaine was in here, did you?” Amelia asked with a snort of amusement. Amelia hummed and nodded her head. “I’m not the biggest on sweets. More of a spicy and savory girl myself. But these are definitely A-tier.”

     “I don’t know you well enough to know that you don’t always say what you mean” he stated with a weak shrug. Sarcasm and humor could be lost on Damian on occasion, but he was getting better at picking up on them when he knew a person well. “Alfred could have made you something to your preference if you’d asked...but they are indeed. On that, we can agree”

She frowned, momentarily taken aback by the compliment. She hadn’t been expecting sincerity like that. In all fairness, Yelena didn’t expect sincerity from most anyone. Nonetheless it took her a small moment to respond, hesitant on how to go about it. “…. thank you.” The words were stiff. “Yes.” She answered this question faster this time, more assured. “Should be very dead this time. Unless they faked it again, which is probable.” Unfortunately.

     If there was any apprehension to his questions, he didn’t notice, nodding as if she was telling him what she had eaten for breakfast that morning despite the actual weight of her statement. “You didn’t confirm your kill?” The words flew out of his mouth without a second’s thought, Damian’s palms sweating as he heard himself. That was a different life, one that he didn’t like to think about anymore, but he supposed that in some ways his training during his childhood was ingrained in him still.

“You are welcome Damian” Bruce mused looking at the other he knew that his son had a deep love for animals something that he didn’t mind nurturing given it was one of his better sides to himself. “I’m glad to hear you counted for your absence and didn’t start the project knowing you’d be taking a break. Whenever you are ready to bring your Project Planning to my attention I’ll be available” He replied honestly he rather liked the idea of using this as a way to bond with his son in this way. “I know you will, I never fear about you making your discomforts known” He smirked at the other chuckling softly “You are my son so of course your judgment and opinion will always be heard.” He replied before nodding his head “Which is why I don’t speak ill of her or dissuade you to not chat with her.”

     “Of course” he nodded slowly, lip quirking with a slight smile at his father’s praise. It wasn’t something that Damian particularly needed or sought out, but it also wasn’t something that he minded receiving from time to time. It had been odd, at first, being encouraged and praised for behaviours or emotions that had previously been pegged as too childish - too human, but it had shaped him into the man that he was today and whether that was good or bad, Damian could at least guarantee that it was a better outcome than the path he had been set on before meeting his father. “It would be unfair to the poor animals to not be there to oversee things are carried out in the most ethical and loving way” he shrugged simply, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Damian had always been entirely selfless when it came to animals, they far exceeded people are far as he was concerned. “How is Monday? I can have Alfred send the files to me” he asked, eager to begin. 

“Oh, me either” Damian smirked over at his father. He had ground down some of his sharper edges over the years but the youngest Wayne was still mastering the art of knowing when it was appropriate to be honest and when it was better to leave things unsaid. “I appreciate that, father” he nodded again, wondering suddenly if he was going to ask his opinion of all of his associates - as entertaining as it would be, Damian didn’t have all night. “I know” he smiled slightly, not having meant to imply otherwise. “She’s well”

     “Can I ask you something just between us?” Damian asked, straight to the point as usual, and with no consideration whatsoever for the fact that he had just leapt down from the tree branch he’d been sitting on when he’d seen Lois coming. “You just seem like you would know and my research was...confusing, to say the least” Damian shook his head, clearing his mind as he looked over at her again. “If you have the time - of course”
