oh my god first of all how did obama know that getting chirped is sidney’s love language???? I bet he was BLUSHINGGGGGG in front of the boys he loves getting teased. second of all he’s 5’11 (if he stands up reeeal straight) so he’s not short by normal standards but he’s on the smaller end for a hockey player. geno by comparison is 6’5… but he’s on the extreme end in the opposite direction lol. sid’s thing is that he’s maybe little undersized by hockey standards but he’s so unbelievably WIDE and STRONG that you cannot knock him off the puck. there are many hilarious quotes from giant hockey men being like ‘you hit him as hard as you can and you somehow just kind of… bounce off? and he’s not fazed at all?’ idk just look up his thighs in shorts one image will explain it all I think

ahh cly retirement fic is so hard for me because obviously shane and ilya are fictional but my real hockey guys are so close to retirement and I feel preemptively bereft just thinking about it 😭 I have enjoyed reading tragic career-ending injury fic for this pairing but I’ll give them a soft ending and let them walk off the ice under their own power. I think one of them plays a year longer than the other—my gut says shane plays a year longer than ilya and that he initially decides not to retire at the same time as ilya because he can’t bear to hang up his skates yet, and this is a source of some contention because ilya is ready to move on to the next part of their lives together. but then shane’s last season ends up being weirdly lonely because he’s played till he’s 42 and everyone he admired as a young player in the league is long gone and everyone he considered a peer is gone and everyone left seems so young & treats him with the same distant reverence you would treat a deity. he spends that whole season facetiming with ilya from hotel rooms on the road asking about all the little things ilya’s doing around the house & all the errands ilya plans to do tomorrow without him and ilya doesn’t say I told you so but they both know shane’s finally ready. also when shane retires at the end of the season I think his original plan had been to join the cens’ front office immediately so he doesn’t have to spend a second away from hockey. but his last year is weird and kinda sad enough that I think he actually takes a couple years off to travel and get really into some niche sport or athletic pursuit and get so hyperfocused on his real estate portfolio that ilya is finally like ENOUGH and makes him sell off a bunch of properties. and then eventually he does become a GM, yeah.
