I obviously get why breeding program AUs place such a strong emphasis on the players themselves having sex and carrying the pregnancy (the grimy angst potential is so painful and good) but I also think that if these programs were real the NHL would be using surrogates (so players didn’t have to miss a season or deal with the wear and tear on their bodies… outsource it to a woman) + IVF (so the league could do genetic testing and gender selection to ~optimize outcomes~). and I would love to see a fic dig into THAT lol. sid and geno are like 19 and 20 years old in their first season together and they’re having a baby that neither of them was actively involved in making and they never ever talk about it but it’s always there between them as they fumble towards becoming friends. sid and geno are closing in on forty and sid’s team has finally authorized the pens to transfer their now fourteen-year-old frozen embryos to the uterus of a woman they’ll never meet to make a baby they’ll only ever see at team photo ops years down the line. etc etc. like how would that affect you? how would that affect your relationship? to know that you doing this incredibly intimate life-changing thing together—and also, in a deeper sense, ie in all the ways that mattered, you weren’t?

lol this article about sid’s next contract… not even yohe can manufacture drama around it. he’s like well he’s going to sign. I mean here’s what it might be like if he didn’t sign… but he’s obviously going to sign. even I can’t make up a story here given that he has said fifteen million times to fifteen million people “I will sign with the pens for a couple more years” and the pens have said “we will write sidney crosby a contract for whatever amount of term and money he requests.”
