I made a similar post about this before, but this is the angrier, rantier version bc I saw something that pissed me off so bad. Which, ig that was the whole intention, but I need to get this off my chest. When I'm searching for fanfiction, a lot of memes and mini rants pop up instead of actual fics, and I usually don't have a problem with them. But the more I surf around, the more I realize that SOME (keyword: SOME) users in the fanfic community are such assholes. I came across a post that called this platform a "cesspool" of terrible writing and characterization. Among other bullshit, their tone was so awful. This was geared towards DC x reader fics. When someone pointed out how rude they were being to the community, OP went all "BOOHOO I have an opinion". There's genuinely a difference between having an opinion and being a fucking BULLY. This shit has consequences. I need y'all to understand that there are KIDS writing on this platform. I was writing on Wattpad at fourteen, and was my stuff cringey, out-of-character, and underdeveloped? YES. That's the WHOLE fucking point guys. You don't even have to be a kid to start a hobby like writing and art and be bad at it. So how did I get to where I am now? I had fun and kept going. Wattpad isn't the best fanfiction website, but my audience was really nice and encouraging. I'm grateful for that because now I look at posts like the one mentioned, and think about all of the writers who see them and think "is this post about me? Am I doing something wrong?". How many future writers died because they were met with echoes about how their work may not be good enough? That they need to write a certain way in order to be accepted? I recognize that I can't stop people from making hurtful comments because it falls under free speech. But to the people in the fanfic community, while you may not intend to hurt others, please think about what you're posting. There are writers in all stages of the hobby who are reading these things. We all deserve a chance to grow at something we enjoy doing. And to the people who make these posts KNOWING that it's going to hurt: you fucking SUCK. Dishonor on you. Dishonor on your cattle. Dishonor on your whole fucking bloodline. I didn't meant to get all preachy, but whatever. It's all out now. Love you guys, keep writing 🫶
