After 3 years of not mentioning #blacklivesmatter and deliberately #backingthebadge, Congressman Bryan Steil actually showed up at the Racine #juneteenth celebration. He wasn't booed like Senator Ron Johnson , but he should have been. 3 years of not supporting #VotingRights and ignoring #BlackLivesDoMatter cannot be made better by showing up at one Juneteenth celebration. Look at his Twitter feed for the last few weeks... Nothing but white, until this morning. Don't believe me... Watch this.
yes 2020 has sucked like a ravenous kirby but in november we finally get to vote that hateful orange turd out of office so eyes on the prize yaâlls
Ok but.. who are we voting in??? Both candidates suck. Gaud help Iâve never voted before.
ffs will someone PLEASE explain why voting in another shoddy white male liberal is VASTLY DIFFERENT from allowing a fascist republican to remain in office?
basically youâre voting for the ADMINISTRATION and the PARTY not the person. also: Biden is crummy. Trump is actively killing hundreds of thousands of people. There is a fucking difference. Not recognizing that difference is what got us Trump in the first place. Itâs the difference between a landlord who refuses to perform repairs, and one who ACTIVELY SETS YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE. Do not let let the republican propaganda machine convince you they are the same.Â
Register To Vote.
Biden believes in the system. Heâll staff the State Department and release his tax returns and listen to his daily briefing.
He wonât send anonymous stormtroopers to snatch people off the street and hold them for hours.
He wonât spend all his time every day on Twitter and react poorly to every single word that isnât glowing with praise.
There are SO MANY differences between them.
If your choices are half an onion in a baggy thatâs been in the fridge a bit too long and developed some mold, and a napalm-filled flaming dumpster that is barrelling at ninety miles an hour towards an elementary school playground, you have the moral obligation to vote for the moldy onion.
And then you support the fresher onions in the Onion House and Onion Senate, and do activism to make the moldy onion scrape some of its mold off, and by the way the fact that people were supporting fresher onions in the onion primary is already paying off in that the moldy onionâs policies have noticeably less mold than they might have a few years ago ⌠look, this analogy has thoroughly gotten away from me, but I hope the first part was clear enough.  Moldy Onion 2020, letâs go.
Moldy Onion 2020
Moldy Onion 2020
Friendly reminder that Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 87 years old and has cancer for the fifth time and whoever wins in November will likely get to appoint her replacement who will sit on the Supreme Court for the next 30-40 years
Biden has committed that he will appoint the first black woman to the Supreme Court
Trump appointed a rapist who wants to overturn Roe v Wade (among other things)
Y'all want a badass Justice like Sonia Sotomayor or another rapist who wants to destroy your rights?
Youâre not just voting for a President for four years, youâre voting for judges for the next forty
Dear Young Voters,
Biden wasn't my first choice, but he is now my only choice. He will pick a female (most likely a WOC). And, he will pick decent Supreme Court Justices.) We're stuck with that rapist Kavanugh.
I don't want to go back in the closet.
I don't want to have my marriage invalidated.
I don't want the country to no longer be a world leader.
I'm begging you, vote Blue.
Vote for local Democrats.
Vote for Senator.
And, start running for office.

hey lesbians youâre not a fake lesbian if you find some men to be conventionally attractive. you were most likely raised to know what an âattractiveâ man looks like, and you probably still recognize it. seeing a man as attractive under societies rules of âattractive-nessâ doesnât make you a fake lesbian.
like seriously iâd appreciate it if people reblogged this more because a lot of young lesbians (including me) struggle with compulsive heterosexuality and being told theyâre not real lesbians because âtheyâre attracted to a man!!!!â
you can find someone aesthetically pleasing without being sexually or romantically attracted to them
and also this applies to trans lesbians so terfs donât reblog this ever
You can be a lesbian and still recognize a man as attractive/handsome.
You can be a gay man and still recognize a woman as attractive/beautiful.
you can be a heterosexual man and still recognize another man as attractive/handsome.
you can be a heterosexual woman and still recognize another woman as attractive/beautiful.
you can be straight or lgbt+ and still find the person of the gender you are not traditionally attracted to to be attractive/handsome/beautiful/whatever
Iâve long argued that thereâs a difference between âfinding someone attractiveâ and âbeing attracted to someoneâ.
The former is more an aesthetic comment. I can recognize that Harrison Ford is an attractive man, without actually being attracted to him.
Itâs like heâs a magnet, but Iâm gold. He may be attractive, but he doesnât attract me.
^^^ all of this
PS. You could have slept with men at anytime in your life and you're still a lesbian. Just because you're not a "gold star" lesbian doesn't make you worth any less.
And, if anyone tells you different, tell them to come see me.
That look M'Lady gives when she sees people not wearing masks
They think they're cool. So dumb.
Good afternoon Ms. Anderson. I am a graduate student obtaining my masterâs in social work. For my social policy course, our class read your book âOne Person, No Voteâ and I was truly rattled to learn about the strategically insidious disenfranchisement happening around the country, and particularly within the southern states. Given the current political atmosphere, what can be done to significantly minimize voter suppression? Which tactics have the highest probability of success?
I just wanted to share this picture. My new socks from my wife arrived on the same day as the new floor mat for under my desk chair. Teddy and Ella just wanted to be in the picture.

Okay, but THIS.
My therapist only recently understood that when I said, âI donât know how to make this phone call or make this appointment.â I very literally meant I didnât know what to do. I can dial the phone, but what do I say EXACTLY? What questions are going to be asked? What do I need to have on hand? What if they ask me something I donât know the answer to?
Iâm one of those people that needs very specific and detailed instructions if Iâm doing something for the first time.
Be patient with people. We all have our struggles. Sometimes it can make all the difference in the world knowing someone can spare a few minutes to care about you and walk you through something thatâs hard for you.
HOW TO MAKE AN IMPORTANT ADULT CALLÂ
FOR THE FIRST TIME
From an adult who has been doing this for about a decade now:Â
Remember that about 10% of any officeâs weekly call volume is from people just like you who have never done this in their life.Â
The mass majority of people who run dentist offices, insurance claim call centers, whatever - remember what itâs like to be completely new, and are generally happy to explain the steps and re-phrase themselves if you let them know what youâre having trouble with, and are kind and patient with them.Â
Youâre not inconveniencing them. Youâre not burdening them. Call center folks are 1000x happier to speak with someone who is earnestly trying and needs some basic help on super simple things, instead of a pissy long-time customer who demands free shit.Â
You are a bright spot in their day. A chance to actually help.Â
So! Hereâs the steps:Â
Keep reading
I canât tell you how much I needed this.
I had to ring my car insurance yesterday, which Iâve never had to do before. It was terrifying. BUT when I explained to the call center person, including calling myself a useless adult who canât adult, and they were very kind. Itâs always worth saying âIâve never done this beforeâ because theyâre usually a kind human (apart from P.B in my office, who I wonât name, but you get her on the phone and good lord, youâll want to throw yourself out a window. I think she wants you to throw yourself out the window too) who will assist you however they can.
Hereâs the Subway Reddit thread they were referencing.
also as a call center employee:
1) your problem isnât even the dumbest or most pointless thing iâve dealt with in the last hour
2) im much happier to rephrase and explain myself to someone who is honest with me about not understanding vs. someone who just pretends they understand in order to not embarrass themselves and then continue to screw stuff up through not knowing and then having to call again. save yourdelf the time spent listening to our annoying queue music and just tell me. iâm happy to help.
3) i swear the only customers i remember are either super rude or super sweet ones. iâll probably forget our call within like 5 seconds after hanging up, so donât worry about making a negative impression. we get so many calls that any embarrassing problems you might have have 100% come up before and we dont think about it twice.
4) you dont have to phase stuff a specific way. the other day a customer used the informal you with me and called me the sweetest person on earth bc i unlocked his online account, as long as youâre not insulting or condescending, itâs okay and youâre good to go
I used to work in a call center. I ran into some of the most awful people ever who would act like I was stupid. BUT, my best calls were teaching someone how to use the website. My favorite call took an hour because the caller was legally blind and needed to know where things were on the site. We went block by block over the entire site and I magnified my screen like he did so I would know exactly where he was and what he could see. It was the BEST call ever.
Then, my moron supervisor bitched at me for taking so long. This was years ago and I was in my 30s, so I wasn't intimated. I told her to just listen to the call, so she could tell me what I did wrong. She never mentioned it again.
Ecaterina Teodoroiu (1894-1917) is considered a heroine in Romania for her role during World War I. She fought and died on the battlefield, while leading an infantry division.
She was responsible for setting up the first Scouts organizations in her country. Even though she was a battlefield nurse at first, she started fighting, driven by the deaths of all four of her brothers. Today, she is remembered through several monuments and names of institutions in Romania.
Sharing because too many people think soldiers and warriors throughout history have only been men.
The term was literally *coined* by the media then absorbed into psychiatry later. I have a few readings on this lemme try to find the titles at least
Edit the website I use is being funny but Iâd recommend The â Short Step â from Love to Hypnosis: A Reconsideration of the Stockholm Syndrome by Celia Jameson and this
Stockholm Syndrome isnât just about dv, itâs about maintaining state power by pathologizing empathy with oppressed people
I feel like this would be a slippery slope towards making it illegal for people to choose to not vote.
thatâs already how it is in australia
Thatâs just so fucked up. :( Do certain medical conditions exempt you?
?????? why is it be fucked up to have compulsory voting? thatâs the way it is in most democratic countries? itâs a part of being a citizen, like paying taxes and obeying speed limits? the fine for not voting is only like $50 and because of the compulsory voting law, our country bends over backwards to make it accessible: itâs always on a weekend, lasts most of the day, and is set up at schools and community centers so thereâs one within easy reach of almost everybody. you can also mail your ballot or vote early if youâll be out of the country on the day. like, ITâS EASY TO VOTE, and the penalty isnât even that ridiculous. i donât understand why the usa doesnât have this, except obviously it would make it harder to literally stop minorities from voting.
I think we Americans tend to forget that a lot of other countries donât actively work to make it harder to vote.
Adding to this here, in Australia you donât have to vote. Or, more precisely, thereâs no way they can tell if you ruined your ballot. You have to turn up, get your name marked off, but you can put a line through the ballot if you donât think any of the candidates are worth voting for. Or do this:Â
Or this:Â
Or this:Â
You have get your name crossed off (if you donât want to wear the fine), but you donât have to make your vote counted if youâre opposed to it.Â
And it is so, so easy to vote. Stuck at work or on holidays? Thatâs fine. Do a postal vote. Â Stuck in hospital? Thatâs fine. Theyâll go to you. Stuck in an old peopleâs home and canât get around? Again, theyâll go to you. Itâs amazing to me that itâs so hard for so many Americans to actually vote. If you make it compulsory, than at least the government is obligated to provide you with the means to vote.Â
And look, I get it. Sometimes I donât want to vote either. But I suck it up, I walk three minutes down the street, and I hope that this year theyâre selling lamingtons again. Oh, and I buy a democracy sausage, which, even if all the candidates suck, makes the effort of turning up pretty worthwhile.Â
ALSO, you can see even on the fucked up ballots that you NUMBER CANDIDATES IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE. Thereâs no need to calculate whether I would be throwing away my vote on the candidate that I most agree with if theyâre not from a major party. I can say, I want that independent person to get in, but if not them, give me Big Party A, and if not them, that minor party person is still better that Big Party B, and Iâm not giving any preference to the Lunatic Fringe Party.
Our system certainly has some issues still, but I can show up to somewhere nearby, line up for a few minutes (if at all), vote exactly in line with my values (on paper, leaving a paper trail that can be recounted), and then buy a sausage and some home made cupcakes on my way out.
A countryâs voting system matters a hell of a lot and every citizen deserves one that makes it easy to vote and results in a government that is representational and accountable.
And by the way, one time I had a bad asthma flare-up on Election Day and didnât make it to my polling station. I got my fine in the mail, I filled out the form explaining why I couldnât vote, no more fine. I would rather have, you know, expressed my preference for who should run my country, but they were cool with the fact that I couldnât do it that day.
âoh no, what if people actually have to participate in picking the government officials who will impact their livesâ jesus christ
It is not compulsory to vote.
It is compulsory to register to vote. It is compulsory to receive a ballot and have your name checked off.
You can tear it up or scribble all over it.
Because it is compulsory, the government is obliged to make sure everyone can, which means polling booths everywhere, accessible to all with any disability, usually multiple in every town.
They also have absentee voting provisions - if youâre away from your electorate you can go to ANY booth and receive a form for your area.
They also have voting booths open before Election Day if you wont be able to make it on that day.
They also have mail in voting if you are outside the country or for any other reason.
You donât even have to prove why you canât vote on the day. You can just attend the early polling booth and vote if you want.
The benefit of compulsory voting is that the government MUST make it easy and accessible for everyone, as opposed to the awful, biased system the US has.
now pls, you are being very harsh on that guy
they obviously didnât know any better, voting in different countries is different, im assuming in their country its a hard thing to do, they even asked if medical conditions exempt you from it in a worry that people with chronic pain wouldnât be able to, idk, stand in a 2 hour line or something
i agree that voting is a part of being a citizen but c'mon that person was actually worried that some people would have to pay a fine for not being able to vote
in america a lot of places donât even let you leave work to vote.
America wants to make it as hard to vote as possible so those who canât get to a Voting booth or get time off work canât vote.
And wouldnât you know the people this effects most is the poor and minorities.
It was created this way. It didnât just happen. In Washington you can mail in ballot but only 2 states in America do that.
So remember kids.
Unless you are rich and white America will do its hardest so your voice means nothing
I'd like to add that employers HAVE to give you three unpaid hours to vote, which is fine if you don't have to take a bus or any public transportation to get to your polling place. It is set up so the lower social economic classes can't vote or make an effort to vote. With the electoral college, it is set up so someone's vote in California counts less than a vote from Louisiana. It's fucked up.
Plus, there's the general consensus that politicians are all bad and it doesn't matter because the two parties are all the same. By disparaging the process and the people, we discourage voting.
This is how the greatest experiment will die. Trump is destroying the US and our relationship to the world. He's allowing decisions and agreements with other countries to happen without us. Once the world realizes you don't need the United States, you'll tell us to piss off and we will fall, just like the Soviet Union in the early nineties.
This is why I donât tell 99% people im bisexual
I love how gay people do it too. Just⌠really? Youâre literally saying the same shit to bisexuals that straight people say to you, and you donât see the hypocrisy?Â
If youre biphobic or hate bisexuals, fucking unfollow me, for serious.
If youre biphobic or hate bisexuals, fucking unfollow me, for serious.
Why is this a thing like really? Homosextual people of ALL beings should understand that you like what you like and if the answer multiple choice then thatâs just more love to go around non?
