Lately I've been thinking a lot about the whole "sex-repulsed aces and romance-repulsed aros are extremely rare" thing and I think this ☝️ is the cause. When you're a romance-repulsed aromantic you kinda have to accept that you'll never reach what is supposed to be the end-all-be-all for relationships and everyone around you will. You have to conform yourself to being a superficial relationship in everyone else's life. So its very hard to accept for a lot of people.
Similar for sex-repulsed aces, so many alloromantic ace folks tell themselves that a partner would never want someone who doesn't like sex so they just kinda. Push it down. They're afraid that if they say no they'll be abandoned. Because "asexuals can still have sex so its okay!"

This week's word is Queerplatonic.

Queerplatonic (adjective) is "a term for an intimate, non-romantic committed relationship. It typically goes beyond what is considered normal or socially acceptable for a platonic relationship but is not romantic in nature or does not fully fit the traditional idea of a romantic relationship."
The term was coined in a thread on DreamWidth in December 2010 by s.e. smith, also known as meloukhia. They later posted the definition of the term in a Tumblr post. s.e. smith is a journalist, essayist, and author, as well as one of the cofounders of Flytrap Media. Their Tumblr blog is no longer active, but they do have a website that includes links to their published books and articles.

Why is a polyamory blog posting about an aromantic term?
The term "queerplatonic" isn't just for aromantic people.
In their coining post, smith made it clear that queerplatonic relationships and attraction are intended for anyone to use: "Anyone, sexual or asexual, romantic or aromantic, straight, gay, queer, bi, lesbian, poly, cis, trans, etc etc can be in a queerplatonic relationship, can have more than one such relationship, and there can be more than two people in a queerplatonic relationship; couples, triads, quads, whatever." The point of the term isn't to provide a substitute for romance for aromantic people; it's to describe a type of relationship/attraction that already existed in the real world among people of all romantic orientations.
Queerplatonic relationships challenge amatonormativity, just like non-monogamous relationships do.
A large part of practicing non-monogamy is deconstructing amatonormativity, as I've mentioned on this blog before. In the process of doing so, we often find that our feelings and relationships aren't always what they might have seemed from an amatonormative perspective! Polyamorous and ENM folks often find that we build connections with our partners that are shaped or textured differently from the clean-cut monogamous romance we've come to expect. While not every relationship or attraction can be easily labeled, "queerplatonic" is a great term to add to our toolkits because it describes something that doesn't quite fit amatonormative standards.

i know folks are gonna call me a pedo for this one, but i grew up seeing my mom and grandma naked. they had health issues and at times needed care and help showering. and i truly think more kids need to be shown the nonsexual reality of naked women at a young age. there is nothing sexual about my grandmothers breasts, they were simply body parts. more women die of heart attacks because people are too afraid of breasts to do real chest compressions, because they are scared to touch their breasts. the sexualization of our bodies literally kills us. i need people to be more normal about naked bodies and i'm 100% serious.
I grew up around naked old people who weren't even my family! Gasp! And it was a good thing. I grew up around old-school hippies at a place called Lothlorien (in Indiana) and one of my friends dads held a sauna day every Sunday in the middle of the woods (like you cannot drive to their house, you park about a quarter mile away and walk into the woods kind of woods). All day random old people came to get naked, high (pot), and sweaty. Just random old peen and boobs swaying with the leaves. No big deal. These are things that I believe made me more at home in my body, made me more excited about aging, made me more willing to fight for my security and safety.
Bodies are just bodies. Nothing sacred and nothing inherently shameful or sinful either. The fact that we still can't get that through everyone in however many years it's been is just fucking idiotic.
Pokemon has never had a generation where all three starter pokemon are mammals. Two generations- gens 1 and 3- have had zero mammals, and from gens 5-8 there've been two mammals to pick from, but none have had three mammals. I think this is an important part of the franchise's brand.
Back when gen 8 got leaked someone pointed out that you can generally tell a real GameFreak Pokedex from a fakemon dex by the amount of "ugly" pokemon and the number of invertebrates and inanimate objects, and I think there's a similar thing going on here- Pokemon genuinely makes an effort to make its monsters varied.
The last 15ish years have seen so much ink spilled on the Vanillish line, on gen 1 designs, etc etc, but I think it bears repeating how easy it is for a Mons game to stick to charismatic animals like mammals and birds and dinosaurs and pets. And pokemon does have that (we have, what, six cat lines? more if you count regional meowths) but it also makes sure to add, like. A crinoid. A bagworm. A bell. Creepy humanoid mushrooms, a sand castle, a big iceberg.
Something would be lost if every single pokemon was as cool as Haxorus or as cute as Snom or as furrybait as Goodra. Pokemon succeeds because it lets you be best friends with shit that's just weird.
currently thinkin about "pornbrained" as an insult and how it reminds me of all the "porn is Corrupting our Youth and Turning them Homosexual" shit i saw as a wee baby gay and idk man maybe when we insult misogynists we can just. call them misogynists.
thinkin about this because i was reminded of a instagram reel comment section (my first mistake was clicking into the instagram reel comment section, i'm aware) where someone asked is all porn inherently bad? and multiple people replied with some variation of "you have poly in your bio, so you're clearly a pornbrained degenerate" etc
and. like. idk i think its weird how even among supposedly queer/feminist spaces there's still acceptable groups to hate yknow? i dont know if theres a term for hatred against poly people but it just seems so odd to me

Me and some friends were collecting eggs on this farm. We dropped one of them and they went absolutely apeshit over that damn egg. Not even the shell was left.
I know people think chickens are herbivores but they absolutely aren’t.
Chickens are omnivores. They eat meat, they eat eat all sorts of fruits and vegetables.
This isn’t really well known to people who live off of farms or who have never spent time on one. It’s also thanks to tv and movies not showing this side of chickens.
It’s why eggs and chicken meat saying they come from “free-range vegetarian chickens” are HILARIOUS, because if they’re free-range, you can’t control that, and the tiny dinosaurs ARE going to eat a lot of things. And if a mouse meets an early demise because it came near the tiny dinosaurs … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Rose tinted chicken glasses used to be a very common invention for chickens, because if they saw a speck of blood on another chicken they would gang up on it and murder it to death and feast on it.

Chickens, however, do act like Hollywood piranhas. Those fuckers get a taste for blood and they become fucking ravenous fiends. They’re still very much dinosaur.
You’re not allowed to let your chickens eat eggs purely because if they discover that they can, you will never get another egg from them again. They WILL eat them before you can collect them.
Yeah I was going to mention this. Once they get the taste, they’ll eat their own eggs and the eggs of other hens if they can. At that point, you gotta cull them.
