mark twain had it right:       the coldest winter she’s ever spent is this summer in san francisco.   she’s under packed.   but her windbreaker woes are quickly forgotten when his eyes meet hers.       ❛❛   i promise i’m just a photographer.   and oblivious.   but not a stalker.   ❜❜       she winces,   sheepish,   and lowers her camera to hang slack around her neck.       ❛❛   i’ll delete the photo if you want.   ❜❜       light breaks through the clouds when she smiles.   when she smiles,   summer remembers itself again.       ❛❛   but it is a good one.   definite kodak moment.   ❜❜

sun-dappled and airy,       her laughter is light and echoes through the trees around him.   she is prismatic.   here,   with her,   the morning drizzle seems illuminated,   lending a cool glow to the forest glen.       ❛❛   don’t look so grumpy.   your face might stick like that.   ❜❜       alice glances back at him and nods,   decisive.       ❛❛   you needed this,   fresh air.   ❜❜       they both did.   but it’s easier to worry about him,   to leave unexamined the dark turmoil that’s coiled within,   those intrusive thoughts that lurk.   her boots squelch in the mud as they walk,   precipitation sticking to her lips,   to his glasses.       ❛❛   i wasn’t always a new yorker,   you know.   ❜❜
