Other materials at the time, namely clay, would absorb flavors and germs meaning that if you ate beef off a clay plate your next meal with that plate could have beef flavor and microbes common on cow meat on it.  That would leak out seemingly at random no less.  Heck imagine a sick person coughing into their soup bowl and then months later their germs hiding in the clay would pop out to infect whole new people.

Also the earliest human use of glass we know of is for its sharpness.  Pre-historic people would use volcanic glass as sharp knives for food preparation.  Also beads.  Pretty much any new substance humans get their hands on for most of our history we immediately try to make into beads.

A blank black-and-white version, plus versions in all the Nektons' colours. If your character's name is too long to fit it should be relatively easy to adjust - cut and move one end of the nameplate then select and stretch part of the middle to reach it, then re-centre as needed. It's easy enough to do even in paint.net.

Also, the svg version is now up on my site on the shrine page, just right-click and save image to get it! I technically actually made it in CSP, but I edited it for posting with inkscape and highly recommend it for editing svg files. To stretch the nameplate in that, use left-shift to select all the control points on one side then hold ctrl down while moving them to make sure you move them in a straight line.

I think maybe I'll make Will Aquaman, with his half-human origins hidden for familial privacy. Fontaine used to be Aqualass, but she felt that her talents would be put to better use as a journalist. Ant is definitely currently Aqualad, and maybe Alpheus as a sort of Kaldur'ahm? But not quite, he's genuinely on Black Manta/Proteus's side.

Kaiko is also more herself than Mera, so I think I'll make her also half-Atlantean, the daughter of a human researcher and a random Atlantean who found that passion for the ocean endearing. She's just as much a member of the Justice League as her husband is.

Hammerhead as Lex Luthor, who cloned Superman and Supergirl, giving us Superboy!Finn and Supergirl!Maddie (name possibly to be changed). Keeping most of the same backstory, Fontaine is now a high school student who wants to go into journalism and while she is still Aquagirl, she's more on reserve than a main member of the team.
