If you call your opponent a pedophile, who is gonna speak up that maybe you're wrong? That clearly just means they're a pedophile, too.

It also means nothing the person ever said can be correct - not even whether sky is blue, because you don't want to besaying the same things a pedophile said, do you?

once you cede that one kind of fiction is evil, fascists will take that same logic and apply it to everything else.

this is "think of the children" pearl clutching about trans and queer folk, D&D, video games, etc etc etc. it's weaponized fascism and you're falling for it by moralizing fiction and policing thoughts.

this doesn't mean you can have personal taste or triggers, that we shouldn't age-restrict things, tag them with warnings, or think critically about how we (individuals and society) ingest media. that doesn't mean disregarding the fact that fiction can affect reality.

No matter how repulsive you or I or anyone may find it, it is a fact that no actual child is getting sexually assaulted in the process of its creation, and I will fistfight IRL anyone who belittles the real actual trauma that my fellow CSA survivors and I by saying a fucking cartoon drawing is the same thing.

(Gen “AI” CSEM slop is different here because 1) it’s not art, full stop, and 2) using real photos/video of real people to create non-consensual porn of them IS a violation of a real person and DOES cause harm.)

Or maybe it’s just that you don’t know the difference between moderation and censorship.

Moderation is when a discrete group—a website, a chat group, a forum, a Discord server, a debate club, etc—says “don’t do this, it’s against the rules” or “if you’re going to do this it has to satisfy these other rules too” (tagging, warnings, using a certain channel, etc). Violating it can get you thrown out of the group.

Censorship is when a government says “don’t say/publish/draw/air that, it’s against the law.” Censorship is book bans and “don’t say gay” laws. Violating it can get you thrown in prison.
