honestly i never thought the phrase “i want that twink obliterated” was like a sexual thing. like when i read the phrase i imagine “a meteor like the one that killed the dinosaurs is summoned from the heavens and hits the twink in question” type situation
I always pictured something like this
Every time someone says the word system my brain creates this image
Due to my weird childhood and my weird brain, I have this very unhelpful compulsion to conceal Everything I do from Everyone. I Cannot be observed performing any action, no matter how mundane. My nervous system is convinced I'm gonna, like, Get In Trouble for eating food at dinnertime or sleeping in my bed at bedtime.
I've taken to asking myself, "Okay does this task actually require subterfuge or am I stealing a balloon on Free Balloon Day"

Im always like "i will not add my two cents. i will not add my two cents" but i cant lie the pennies are getting sweaty in my hand

oh thank goodness, i was hoping this would make the rounds again
If someone is hosting a party or event, especially at their own home, it's polite to bring a gift for the host (unless they specified no gifts). This little bit of etiquette has been dying out the past few decades, so it's not as expected as it used to be, so don't sweat it if you forgot or don't have the budget for it.
But, if you have the budget for it, giving a gift to the host is about showing appreciation and gratitude to someone gracious enough to spend their own time and money hosting you, and the other guests, at their home.
It doesn't have to be big or frilly or expensive. A bottle of wine is a very classic and traditional gift for a host (if you watch older movies or T.V. shows you might see gags about someone not knowing what to do with the 20 bottles of wine they got as gifts after hosting a party) but something like a tin of their favorite loose leaf tea, or a pack of their favorite cookies/biscuits can also be a thoughtful little "thank you for hosting us at your home." (and they don't end up with 20 bottles of wine they don't know what to do with)
A friend of mine once tried to bring me a bottle of wine for hosting her but couldn't find one in the corner shop, so she panic-bought me a bottle of lime cordial instead. She vaguely remembered seeing one in my house and thought I was therefore probably not actively opposed to lime cordial. To this date I now feel warm and charmed whenever I think of lime cordial

I've been getting back into comics while I wait for more info from my concept job, and I thought I'd make a post about something very important to me, which is COMIC PANEL VARIATION and HOW TO THINK ABOUT IT.
Also, yes, before you ask, these rules can absolutely be broken. I strategically break them to create a noticeable shift or flow in the storytelling, like so:
You can also probably make your own set of 5 IN 5 rules! I like to draw facial expressions and backgrounds and hands (like a masochist), so my 5 in 5 is definitely geared towards that. If you like to make more quiet, introspective comics, you could throw in a panel with NO DIALOGUE every 5 pages, or a mood panel with no characters, for example!
Oh my God, Mad is updating us with more comic paneling insights and advice???
I’ve handed that first slide alone to dozens of sequential art students over the years and have used it to diversify my page layouts. And that new bit about making your own “5 in 5 rules” is also profound. Thanks for this, mad!
and then what?
hey and then what
stop hitting me 🤕
