Do you check for trackers and remove them before sharing links?
Do you check for trackers and remove them before sharing links?
Yes
No
Time for a post that doesn't comply with the gimmick...
So, companies are tracking you no matter what you do, but this specifically is something I care about deeply.
Essentially, when you share a link, sometimes it has extra data that tracks where it comes from and goes.
Opening Spotify, clicking the first item, and using the share button, I get something like open.spotify.com/track/4P0f1HTaA2UwtLJGryNgJZ?si=DBvbfihOSweU1KHj9Mib8w
That ?si=...........…. is the tracker. It tells Spotify who clicks on the link and ties it to you, meaning Spotify knows who your friends are even if you never follow them.
Similarly, if on Amazon or EBay in the browser, I get something like www.ebay.com/itm/146493392451?_skw=lenovo&itmmeta=............&hash=item................&itmprp=enc..............
And, similarly, everything after the question mark is tracking you. I had to blank it out because it was so long!
There is an exception for a few things (I.E. the v=..... on YouTube, but not the si=..... on YouTube)
The general rule is delete everything after the ? and if it breaks, add something back.
You should do this.
Firefox users, when you right-click to copy a URL, it will give you the option to "copy clean link" which does what prev describes for you automatically. 10/10.
I have every word ever blocked. I could be mutuals with axe murderers and I wouldn't know because I have "#axe murdering" in my blocked tags. it's so peaceful here (hears a noise behind me) (doesn't turn around)
When you stand up and your body's car warning lights come on all at once and you suddenly go blind and you have to immediately sit down or your body will go "nope" and send you to the ground
This is leaving out the most crucial piece of why that was a normal reality: UNIONS. Union participation percentage is a measly 10% across all industries for the latest statistics in 2025. Unions are the ones who could fight against the requirement for everyone and their mother to need a minimum of a bachelor's degree. they could fight for working hours to be properly compensated so that the work week was actually 40 hours or less and everything over was actually paid for. The reality of the work place and why we work so much more for so much less is because we are not unionized. the reason europeans seem to have it so much better is because of their strong union culture. there are solutions to these problems and we need to stop obscuring the why.
correct.

battlestar galactica: season 2 - kara thrace
i think this captures the defining pathology of the collective social media psyche right now. we are in the thrall of people who are wantonly cruel but who also demand to be coddled at all times in every way
For anyone wondering, the PhD student's name is Myra Cheng.
Here's a link to an article about the study from the Stanford Report: link.
Across three preregistered studies, participants interacting with sycophantic AI became more convinced of their own rightness and less willing to repair relationships. Yet at the same time, participants rated sycophantic AI models as higher quality, more trustworthy, and more desirable for future use, which may explain why this behavior has persisted despite its harmful impacts.
Myra Cheng et al. "Sycophantic AI decreases prosocial intentions and promotes dependence." Science 391, eaec8352 (2026).

one of the funnier incidents of me assuming someone knew a meme irl was when a new coworker was talking about some woman who got arrested for tax fraud and I went "God forbid women do anything" and he got scared and thought I was accusing him of being sexist, so he started apologizing and saying how tax fraud isn't even bad, actually.

A BEAR ATE MY BEST HUMMINGBIRD FEEDER.
Rude.
Someone tell that bear he's not supposed to eat that with the skin on.
I live in South Africa. And if you live in South Africa and you have any contact with people from the US or Canada you might have run into a question about wildlife like lions and elephants roaming our streets. Most South Africans get pretty offended by questions like this. We are a civilized country, our large and dangerous wildlife gets contained in properly fenced parks.
I use to get offended by this until I visited a few places in Canada and realized that the reason why you ask is that some of your large and dangerous wildlife does simply roam the countryside and sometimes make excursions into town.
This honestly blew my mind. What do you mean, you have bears just walking around? What the hell?
north americans don't all encounter deadly megafauna on our porches and front lawns but it happens often enough that we all think this is a reasonable amount of gigantic animal to happen to your house. so when we think of africa we kinda imagine it like this:
like. if we had elephants here. this is what we would be putting up with on the regular. what do you mean you guys are more sensible than us.
TELL ME AGAIN HOW AUSTRALIA IS THE DEATH COUNTRY We have two spiders and (apparently) 12 snakes but we don’t have lions, bears, wildcats, AND crocodiles. We sometimes have crocodiles and large boas in certain areas. We don’t have to worry about a bear attacking our halloween decor. Or moose deciding to joust on the front lawn. Maybe similar to Africa, America’s fear of Australia is because you all assume our wildlife is exactly as huge and space-invadey.
oh yeah i forgot about the gators
I live halfway between two large cities in a pretty damn suburban area and hearing the sentence “did you hear there was a bear* spotted on [road that is pretty built up and I don’t think of as wild at all]” only left me a little surprised. My mother once saw what she described as a coyote going to school- just walking around a university campus.
so.... yes I was absolutely picturing elephants reaching over your back yard fences for some tasty leaves.

Couple years ago we had a bear in the market of downtown Ottawa. Ottawa has a population of 1 million, and it made it to the largest market (byward), and had to be removed with sedatives.
When I was a kid I lived next to a cattle farm and also my neighbors had horses. One time we were driving home and they were just. In the road.
Saturn used to advertise moose-resistant doors for their cars in case a horny one took you for competition. Never mind that if you hit a moose in the road, your car would be totalled, Saturn or not.
Animals Getting Up To Shit is so normalized that when I first moved to a new town and the news announced an escaped tiger (from some zoo, I guess) spotted in my specific neighbourhood, I just went out anyway. I needed groceries and it's not like it was a horny moose or anything.

Gotta have a griller in your collection
complimented a womans clear raincoat this morning and she said Well i feel like a sandwich
we need more pathetic female characters written by authors who don't hate women
to be clear since this is making the rounds: she has to be an absolute loser in no way that can be pinned on her gender. no "i'm just a girl tee-hee" stuff. straight up just a loser (nondenominational)
addendum: she must be the most important person in the whole narrative
I decided to sit down and concentrate and properly write the list of rules that qualify a character for this role.
FIRST LAW: This character must be a woman.
SECOND LAW: This character must be a loser, but not in a way that can be pinned on her gender. Misogynistic response from the audience does not disqualify the character.
THIRD LAW: If the audience does not enjoy this character, then it becomes impossible to enjoy the show/film/book/game altogether. It is not possible to ignore this character, for better or for worse.
FOURTH LAW: The character must make bad decisions, and not just be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control. The character can also be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control, but it has to be primarily her personal choices that deem her a loser.
dog i gotta move like yesterday
Please stay

i think it's nice that people write books and it's possible to read them. often through the public library system
I wonder how it feels to be a therapist or psychiatrist in 2026 and watch the despair of young patients and realize it’s not attributed to mental illness but a rational response to the state of the capitalist hellscape world we live in
I’m not depressed because I need a higher dose of my mood stabilizer. I’m depressed because I spent years of my life working my fucking ass off to get a degree in biochemistry from one of the top universities in the world only to apply to over 100 jobs and the only one I land is one I hate every second of doing, the work is literally useless, and in spite of being there over 40 hours a week I still don’t make enough to pay rent. The food benefits I get can’t even feed a german shepherd. I’m 23 years old with a college degree asking my parents to take me grocery shopping so I don’t starve. I’m not upset because of my mental illness I’m upset because I work my ass off only to be broke and miserable
