Chapter 2: Ice Cream Date
Notes: There is a conversation about Angie being from another country/island. While there is nothing offensive, and I did not name a specific country since she has no confirmed country of origin. Just thought I list this as a note in case anyone may find it uncomfortable to read.
The two young girls walk around a local town looking at various stores and restaurants. The white hair girl soon asks a question, โSo, what kind of treat are you looking for to help thy spirits?โ The black hair girl feeling even more confused decides to ask her own questions, โOk first off, who even are you? Why are you helping me? And why do you keep talking like that?โ The white girl stops skipping in her tracks, โWhoopsee, did I never give you my name? My most humble apologies. I am Angie Yonaga, a messenger of God, and I am only helping you in your time of need.โ The black hair girl looks at her with a displeased face and replies with, โOk then. Well, my name is Tenko Chabashira. You didnโt answer my last questionโ Angie gives a puzzled look and replies with, โOh Tenko? That is such an interesting name. Do you mean my speech patterns? It is just the way I talk.โ Tenko soon replies with a befuddled look, โSigh whatever. Hey you know youโre supposed to address me by my last name right? Weโre not even friends.โ Angie gives a slightly sad expression, โAwwww, are we not friends?โ Tenko starts to sweat a bit, โAh, I mean, we only just met about a couple of minutes ago. Why would you even act so friendly towards someone like me? Are you pitying me?โ Angie soon feels concerned over Tenkoโs comment and says, โOh, I am sorry, am I overstepping my boundaries? I just could not leave you crying after witnessing such a sad moment.โ Tenko feels startled as she asks, โOh, so you saw everything that happened with that stupid boy?โ Angie responds with nodding her head up and down. Tenko sighs with exasperation as she states, โLook you donโt have to feel pity for me, itโs not like it was that bad anyways.โ Angie responds with, โAw, but you were crying so much.โ Tenko becomes embarrassed scratching her head as she expresses, โThat was just in the moment, Iโm over it now.โ Angie becomes disappointed and states, โOh really? Well I was just about to offer you ice cream to help lift your spirits.โ Tenko becomes surprised and then responds with, โOh ice cream? Well actually that sounds pretty good right about now.โ Angie reacts with excitement and proclaims, โOh? Then how about we go get it, I know the most perfect place!โ Tenko responds with approval, โHeh alright, but you donโt need to offer to buy me anything.โ Angie shakes her head and states, โAw do not worry, it is no trouble. Come, take a seat.โ
Angie and Tenko stop to sit down at a small outdoors ice cream shop called, the Fruity Parlor. They both pick up menus and observe the options provided as Angie asks, โSo what are you in the mood for?โ Tenko gives a small frown as she replies with, โAt least let me buy you something too if youโre gonna be so nice to me.โ Angie expresses with joy, โOh no no no, I cannot consume too much dairy as it can give me a stomachache and gain weight.โ Tenko gives her a smug smile as she responds with, โOh really? Then how you do know this is the most perfect place for ice cream?โ Angie feels slightly embarrassed as she exclaims, โWhoopsee, guess I am, guilty as charged, as they say.โ Tenko gives off small chuckles as she glances back at the menu, โWell this blueberry surprise sounds pretty good, what about you?โ Angie studies the menu with wonder as she cites, โOh the lemon meringue has always been my favorite.โ Tenko cracks a small smile as a waitress comes by to take the two girlsโ orders and leaves. Angie notices Tenkoโs new expression as she points out, โAww Tenko, it looks like you are already feeling better, I am glad!โ Tenko becomes shocked as she lifts her head up to say, โWha-what? Jeez come on, whatโs with you? Didnโt I tell you you suppose to address me by my last name?โ Angieโs face turns puzzled as she inquires, โEh, am I supposed to do that? I guess I am still not familiar with the customs here.โ Tenko starts to feel bewildered as she asks, โNot familiar? Are you not from around here Yonaga?โ Angie appears nervous as she answers with, โOh, were you able to tell?โ Tenko tenses up a bit as she expresses, โUm, well itโs just you have an odd way of talking and you donโt seem to be native here, uh no offense.โ Angie face changes to an anxious look as she taps her index fingers together to convey, โOh it is alright, I am used to it. But you are correct, my family and I come from an island far away from Japan. We had just recently moved here a year ago.โ
As the two girls exchange words, the waitress comes to serve them with their desired ice cream orders. Angie quickly turns ecstatic clasping her hands together as she expresses, โOoooo! At last, I am excited!โ Tenkoโs expression slightly changes to a similar mood while feeling a bit guilty. โHeh, yea Iโd like to dig in too.โ As the two enjoy their sweet delectables, Tenko with a sorrow expression on her face decides to apologize with, โHey Yonaga, Iโm sorry if I was being invasive with you, Iโve been in such a bad mood since you met me.โ As Angie was joyously eating her dessert, she reacts with, โOh, it is alright Te- I mean Chabashira, I am not mad. I was simply answering your questions.โ Tenko becomes dismayed over Angieโs quick acceptance of her apology as she conveys, โYou know, you donโt have to be so easy to accept what I say to you. I have been pretty rude to you since we started talking.โ Angie gives her a reassuring smile as she states, โOh no no no, it is quite alright, I hold no grudges. God tells me it is a sin to be vengeful towards others.โ Tenko feels troubled as she inquires a question, โHeh you seem to bring up God a lot. Are you religious or something?โ Angie gives off a curious tone as she communicates, โOh why of course! My family and I have always been devoted followers to God. It is our duty to spread his message to others.โ Tenko establishes a concerning expression and follows up with, โOh, is that the reason why youโre even talking to me? Are you trying to convert me?โ Angie notices Tenkoโs reluctance on the subject matter as she communicates to her, โOh no, it was not my intention at first. I really did want to lend a hand helping to your needs.โ Tenko gives off a sigh of relief as she proclaims, โOh alright, if you say so. The saying is โa helping hand in needโ by the way.โ Angie shows a look of interest as she verbalizes, โAh I see I see. Thank you!โ
The two girls soon finish their helpings of tasty treats and after they both pay for each othersโ orders, they continue their conversation for a bit. Angie grasps her hands together to rest her head on them and starts off with, โI hope this outing was enough to help take your mind off of that experience.โ Tenko expresses with a more uplifting tone, โHeh I do feel a lil better now. Thanks Yonaga, I appreciate your efforts in helping me.โ Angie replies with a joyful face, โOh it is no biggie for me.โ Angie looks over Tenkoโs shoulder and notices a clock ticking 10 minutes to 5 pm and states, โOh perhaps we can talk again another time? I need to get going to home.โ Tenko gives off a look of disappointment as she says, โDang already? Well alright, it was nice chatting with you.โ As Angie stands up to pick up her school bag, she departs with, โAh yes, I also enjoyed our time together.โ Angie starts to run past her until Tenko stops her briefly to give her some information, โHey wait, if you wanna pick back up, you can find me by the gym regularly at school.โ Angie shows an eccentric look as she replies with, โOh, why thank you Ten- Chabashira, I look forward to next time. Sayonara!โ Angie waves as she rushes back home. Tenko waves back and responds with, โBye Yonaga.โ Tenko is left sitting alone at the parlor table as she thinks to herself, โHm, strange girl. Definitely not who I was expecting to spend Valentineโs Day with. Sigh guess I wonโt be able to get my money back on those chocolates. Aw well.โ Tenko stands up and places her school case over her right shoulder, โGuess I better get back home too.โ She mutters to herself as she starts walking back in the opposite direction of where Angie ran off.
