Intro Post: A Blog for Survivors of the P-Shifter & Mythical Communities.
Hello, you guys can call me Wolf or Nix (she/they), I made this blog to function as a support blog for those of us who used to be in the mythical/p-shifter community but have since left. There will likely be alterhuman discourse on this blog, but it is not by default a discourse blog. What inspired me was my own experience being involved in a p-shifter/mythical cult during my very formative teen years, and seeing just how much it messed me up. I'm an adult, the host of a system, and a werewolf theriomythic, though I prefer the term Were over therian. As such, this blog is NOT anti-alterhuman, albeit there will more than likely be posts criticizing certain aspects of the community. I also, despite having left the mythical community, consider myself to be an Avian as I was a very dedicated wing-grower during my time in said community. I experience permanent phantom wings because of this and it's a big part of who I am today. I snagged the AWTOK url because the whole AWTOK mythos was a big part of my trauma from my time in the mythical community, and as such, I thought taking the url would be funny and in a sense, therapeutic. Ask Box is open, anons are on, feel free to use the asks as a confessional, for conversations, etc. The tags on this post are used to gain traction. If you are a current p-shifter/mythical or otherwise adjacent, and you cannot handle criticism of the ideologies in your community, it would be in your best interest to block this blog, as it is intended for SURVIVORS of the harm your community has caused. I have a bit of a weird interpretation so this feels like the only fitting place to put it 😂
I believe that when Rhett came to NC, he immediately became infatuated with Link but he didn’t know what that meant, he just felt it and fought it. I believe Link has always been in the closet and he knew it since he was young. I believe he openly had a crush on Rhett and people only started picking up on it when they got older (ie the church stories Link has told that hints to queer abuse). I think that when they were in high school, they played around with little touches that confused Rhett but Link hoped one day he would give in. Then they went to college and something happened, which pushed them away from each other sexually because they knew what they had done and were still religious so they pursued a traditional family to bury that, while somehow finding wives that reflect each other. Then they remained best friends and work colleagues but still had this underlying tension and knowing. And eventually, things started back again. So they made a commitment to move to California, somewhere more acceptable of their relationship but also their career. They made a pact to convince their families this was for the career, but it was more than that. But once they got here, Rhett became lost in the business and pushed them further into the closet but their sexual relationship became permanent. Now, Rhett does not want anything to change. He wants to keep the traditional family profile and the perfect business, while also having his soulmate in private like it’s always been. Link wants to come out and pursue the life with Rhett he though they were going to have before they left NC. Now they are in a pendulum. Link has also grown convinced by Rhett and there are times that you can see Rhett has regretted what he’s done, but too prideful to turn around. Link is growing complacent, which Rhett also seems to know. There are times they both quietly know what they could’ve been, but it’s gone too deep that they might not be able to get out. Will things ever change? I guess we will have to wait and see…

I agree on a lot of it so I will just comment on the points where my theory differs.
I think young Rhett felt comforted and confident in his genuine attraction to girls so he didn’t fully realise that Link had a pull on him. He has said that upon his early encounters with Link he was thinking how pristine and well groomed little Link looked but it’s perhaps in retrospect if he now realises he was attracted to Link. I don’t think he realised back then, that early, or actively suppressing it as a child.
I agree that Link had an understanding of his queer feelings for Rhett super early (at least early middle school). I am not sure his social circle understood but we know their parents were not super enthusiastic about them being friends (for example, Diane has said she considered Link a bad influence for Rhett, whatever she meant by that) which could mean they feared something.
I agree for puberty and early college except whatever may have happened in college to cause some distance, I don’t think it was something fully fleshed out, like a kiss or more. Maybe something that slipped out of their mouths, maybe an awkward arousal, some charged situation that was making the air between them too weird and heavy. So, if they kind of pulled back a little at the time and pursued marriage and engineering careers with little free time for each other, I think it was not because something irreversible had happened, but rather something that could be ignored, yet not denied when alone with their thoughts or if one of them dared to ask the difficult question / openly acknowledge the weird moment.
I think moving to California was a mix of Rhett’s ambition and Link’s hope to get away of their social circle and rekindle what they had, even as a friendship.
I firmly believe that whatever irreversible may have happened (or does happen) between them started happening after late 2013 - early 2014, not before. So they didn’t go to California to keep their affair, they did not intend this to happen but surely they instinctively wanted to get away from the strict monitoring and judgement.
I agree almost completely with the last part. Rhett has not exactly regretted it, I think he knows deep inside that he is not making the wise choice but he knowingly doesn’t try to rise above his shortcomings, like the fear of judgement and the concern for their career. So he rationalises it as in that it’s for the good of the families and the business but he’s open to Link about not being happy this way either. There have been multiple instances in which Link has verbalised his awareness that Rhett is miserable or at least not a very happy person.
