11/12/2020-- CAKE
Hello! Today I made a Rustic Lemon Cake
Trouble again waking up on time. I was tricked by a dream where I woke up and baked cookies with my mom? I don’t know why but I very much bought into it. Woke up at nine, ended up baking at ten... but hey, I still baked, a second day in a row! That’s more than I thought I could do ^^,
And the cake turned out... well, uh, it definitely turned out!
I baked a Black Forest cake this weekend 🍰🍒
I made some brownies (cookies??) for Halloween 💀

11/11/2020-- BREAD
So as is my mission statement, today was my first time waking up in the morning with the intent to bake something and, uh, well let’s just say we’ve already hit a few snags ^^,
The night before I spent a little too much time watching anime and chatting with a friend, so I ended up not going to sleep until nearly 2 am. Yikes! Since waking up at five would only give me three hours, I choose to prioritize my sleep health and woke up around eight am. Sleep health is important, after all!
Still, that left me blearily staring at my phone at eight am, endlessly scrolling through TikTok.
Is it really worth it? Why am I doing this to myself anyway? There isn’t a point. I could just go back to sleep, I mean, what do I even get out of this?
...Well, I’ll get Bread.
I got out of bed.
Hello!
The other day I saw a woman on TikTok(1) explaining that she wakes up at five am everyday and does something sporadic and different. It was an experiment, she said, so she can wake up looking forward to things, and help combat her depression.
I used to wake up at five am, I thought to myself. I liked it. I’d like to do it again, instead of sleeping in till eleven. And I want to do fun and sporadic things. Seasonal depression is coming up(2); I want to do something that makes me feel better. Could I do that too?
But alas, I am poor and broke and have no money. Also I don’t have a car and there’s not much going on in a bike-able radius from me. Nor am I keen on biking at five am, if I’m honest.
So... what?
Well. I have a jar of Yeast I bought at the beginning of the pandemic that I never turned into bread. I have a box of cake flour from the cake recipes I fantasized about, but never created. And baking chocolate- like, so much baking chocolate, because I do occasionally make brownies, but also because I’d like to make chocolate croissants and coronets and pastries galore.
So what if I woke up at five am and just... baked?
It won’t be good at first. I imagine I’ll make a lot of mistakes. But there’s also a lot of days in a year, by this time next year I should be able to make dinner rolls and cakes and candies and all sorts of things, shouldn’t I?
No idea.
But why don’t we find out?
Footnotes;
1. The woman’s handle on TikTok is @ elliebreeden5 and the 5am series is very inspirational so I recommend checking it out ^^
2. I’m starting this 11/11/20, right at the beginning of November.
