There's an older pilgrim called Laren. Throughout this book, Helbrecht is always smiling fondly when he's looking at him

He even compares the other human pilgrims who scuttle behind Laren to a litter of babies following their mother. He's clearly very fond of the pilgrims

He even personally marked an ash cross on each of their heads 😤
