D20 Bounty Board

(very long post incoming)

when I joined bobo, hesitant and unsure, I didn't know what I was getting into. it sounded fun and I hoped I might get an idea or two to write something for d20 for the first time. if I'd given it much thought, which I didn't really, I probably would've expected maybe a handful of starstruck fics, nothing too out there. that's if I managed to write anything at all - I often get overwhelmed in situations like these and quietly dip out.

instead i went absolutely bobo bonkers 🫠 34 fics, 100k words??

I had an absolute blast, it was wild finding all these amazing prompts written by these amazing people that let me try new things. the competition aspect really pushed me ajskdkf I am unfortunately a competitive person and it hit me just right to tap into my creative drive and my need to prove myself, and. well. bobo bonkers

34 fics is a lot but there are some I really wanted to highlight! (idea taken from @herkimer-aurora, check out their list, too!!):

1.) let the wave wash over me (there will be better days): while I'm more attached to my later stories, this was my first bobo posting, which makes it both my first d20 fic and my first fanfic in several years!! very happy this fic got me going 💚 riva returns home, oc pov, 4k

2.) keep sharp: two part series focused on annabelle cheddar and her relationship with her father, her cousin, and the dairy isles. introspective, character study, very fun! 6k total

3.) becoming sky-eyed: okay this one came out of nowhere - 7 part series on miryam dawderdale and her adventures in zood. everything from introspective to absurd. I am now somehow the fandom authority on dawderdale and that's good, she's mine now. 12.7k total

4.) i still feel you here (til the moment i'm gone): this was a fun, iconic but new fanfic experience for me: maxwell gotch gets hanahaki! angst with a happy ending. 4.5k

5.) inside this house of mine (came you and i): another very different experience for me was this liam wilhelmina but not liam wilhelmina centric identity crisis almost horror fic written in second person present tense absolutely inspired by @highfiveheroes's stunning my rocket ship is porcelain! this one came from a wild place but I love it. 8k

6.) Dracula is Spectacula: this is a short, incredibly goofy sonnet written from Squing to Dracula, if he'd actually been able to finish a poem. required me to flex some old muscles. 124 words lmao

7.) i'll brush your hair behind your ears if you can't see: a 5+1 look at ways that daisuke and olethra are a family because they are, goddamn it. the grandfather granddaughter duo of all time. 5k

8.) if i were human (i'd wake up every day a new man): slug the wurst! for whatever reason, skip has to leave norman and go to a different crewmate - what does that look like? 5+1, everything from truly absurd to angsty. 8k

9.) yes there's a chance that i've fallen quite hard over you: starstruck coffeeshop au!! another iconic fanfic experience that was new to me, and I got lost halfway through but now it's spiraling into new directions thanks to @reineydraws (check out her AMAZING fanart!!) and will likely have a fun spinoff! 9k, the longest bobo fic I wrote!

10.) i got this feeling in the summer air (today just ain't no ordinary day): almost my last bobo fic (I was goaded into writing one last scrambled fic but I'm counting this one as my last), a sweet and extremely fluffy birthday fic for olethra but also for the prompter and for me! almost 2k, and pushed me just past 100k for the event!

the "maybe I'll write a handful of aso fics" turned into 14 aso fics, which is kickass, but also very surprisingly 2 coffin run fics (heyo coffin run my love), 6 crown of candy fics (liam wilhelmina my blorbo I'm sorry for what I've done), and a wild 16 cloho fics!? I still feel like a fraud sometimes for not having watched all of d20 but I'm out here churning out fanfic like it's my day job, for a variety of fandoms, in a variety of styles. I'm proud of myself and what I've accomplished 💪 (and I'm proud of team bucklesby, hell yeah team bucklesby we earned that win!! thank you for naming me your mvp! that was really unexpected and really nice and your comments made my day!! mods, please return my son to me, you know what happened in acoc when preston was ..)

I'm taking a little bit of a break to catch my breath but I'll come back to write more! I already have ideas of what to write (blame rei, up in my DMs sending fantastic developments every day) so I just need to refuel!

Summary:

A few flashbacks steeped in bittersweet tears later has Fabian kneeling in front of the gaping, flaming maw of Seacaster Manor with ash falling around him in jet-black flurries. The pain emanating in his chest threatens to cleave him in two, but all he can do is stare as the feelings from years of abandonment and neglect catch up to him and threaten to drown him in waves. Or: Fabian copes with his feelings by burning his house down.

Fabian doesn't know how it started. Perhaps it was one bad baby milk too many or the gnawing sense of emptiness festering in his chest. Maybe it’s the way he found out his Mama was moving out: a glib text on his crystal that talked of a mansion “too big” and stifling for her, Gilear, and their new baby. (The bank later called him about insurance, but Fabian was a few bottles deep by that point.)

He knows how it ends: with a molotov cocktail in his hand, sailing through the air in slow-motion. It arcs over the patio where he had fencing practice with Herzon before exploding with a crack! against Seacaster Manor, painting its gilded walls bright with red-orange flame and the stench of vintage booze and spoiled milk.
