slightly singed

I’m gonna do a little case study on my own art bc I think that might be helpful. As I said before, I think a lot of the times we may have an idea of what we want our characters to be doing but don’t really think about where or why they would be. I really like drawing backgrounds so most of the time I’m the opposite and have to figure out what my guys should be doing there which is lowk why so much of my art is just ppl standing around in various places 😅 anyways onto the study

Since this was a gift, there were prompts already given and I chose smth abt legend and fable dealing with daily royal life. So from there I started thinking abt what I like seeing in their dynamic and then sorta decided I like seeing legend be an annoying sibling to fable and to include royal duties I thought maybe they’d have to do paperwork together and legend would complain abt that! From there I kinda figured well if the they’re doing paperwork I guess it should be in an office/desk area and should be regal and nice. I wanted to draw them sitting, so I found this reference:

I feel like it has a nice royal castle-ish vibe so I cropped it to the table area and then put legend and fable there doing their paperwork

I draw a rough sketch first just to get posing down and layout and then move onto lineart/cleaned sketch. Sometimes I just roughly trace the ref for the rough layout and figure out the details later bc I’m lazy 🤷‍♀️ Then colors which I mainly bs my way thru and use curves a bunch to adjust it to smth I like better

I like coloring the background first and then the characters and doing the characters in a lower opacity brush so they blend more into the bg and it looks cohesive. Again adjustment layers are goated for this.

Then I render everything and adjust colors and curves more and I’m done!
