sheik + harp for character prompts!
“That looks fancy.”
Sheik startled out of their stupor, looking down to see none other than the little sprite, garbed in green leaf and a dirtied yellow play-mask, just a. touch too small for a young teenager. Their wrapped fingers paused questioningly.
“Your harp,” the sprite said, like an accusation.
“Does it?” They asked lightly. Maybe before, but now the usual gold of the Goddess Harp was covered in a glamour of silver and beat-up wood. Maybe if he squinted… “Perhaps it does.”
He huffed with a stamp of his foot. Sheik could imagine him rolling his eyes behind the mask. “You’re not really Sheik. I know it. I’m going to tell Impa and the Captain about it.”
Sheik ignored the ice that slid down his throat at those words, face impassive. The threat was less intimidating coming from the mouth of a twelve year-old. “Why don’t you come sit down with me, instead?” They suggested, “I’ve heard you’re quite deft with that ocarina of yours.”
“I don’t want to play with you,” Young Link scoffed, but he plopped himself down on the log next to Sheik anyway.
Sheik took up a merry tune of the forest. There was hardly such occasion to play music like this in battle, but somehow, now seemed the appropriate time. The little sprite did not move to take the strange, shiny ocarina out of his belt, but he did stay through to the song’s end.
When Sheik finished, he turned to face them, arms crossed. “I still don’t like you,” he said. A beat. “You need to redo whatever magic you have on your harp.”
Sheik nodded. Young Link nodded. The kid skipped off, too-big boots kicking up dust in the trail behind him. Sheik watched him leave, watched the too-big blade strapped at his back, the creepy mask pinned on one hip, the strange, familiar ocarina on the other.
Now… what was that glamour they had used before…?
