wikipedia no longer being anywhere near the top of search results when looking up anything feels eviscerating
#they really said “you can’t use wiki as an academic source-use our garbage AI that’s even less reliable”#and you can’t even opt out of it
no but you can FORCE it away. use ublock origin and copy paste the blacklist i made into the filters to be able to remove the bullshit AI overview that google forces. it also removes youtube's forced ads (at least until they fix it)
you can also use the ublacklist extension and use this blacklist of AI image generation websites to curate your google image results
there are ALWAYS ways around stuff. it's just a matter of looking into it and asking around

“Woodland”: blackberries on an autumn walk. With three purples and four greens, this is a complex and pretty colour that evokes the fall countryside. It’s on sock, sparkle, DK, and aran.
If y'all want vintage public domain knit patterns (usually from yarn companies), you can find it on Project Gutenberg.

What unfortunate incident led to THIS (professionally printed) notification!? 🧶
I hope all new fiber artists know that the "slightly misshapen" object they made that they're stressed about not looking good:
1. Happens to every fiber artist always, you're too zoomed in to its every detail because you're the one who made it and most people would think it looks normal, or at least much less misshapen than you do, stand 20ft away from it and look at it and then see how you feel (true about all art tbh)
2. Gets better and more uniform each time you do anything
and the *very most important*:
3. Can be made Significantly Less Misshapen by just grabbing the fabric and stretching it in a few directions
I keep helping new fiber artists who are like "but my thing looks so bad :(((" by like, taking their object and stretching it sideways and horizontal, and handing it back, and they're like "????? Magic?????" bc it looks perfect.
Trust the process. Trust the stretchy process
Can someone please explain to me WHY no one can accept that I knit for pleasure?? Every time someone compliments me on my knitting they ask me if I've thought about selling it. NO GOD DAMMIIT NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A SIDE HUSTLE
It would take all the pleasure out of it.
Bring back people doing things for fun. Jesus.
I reference this blog post every single time I bind off a project, Susanna Winter I owe you my life
When will art institutions finally pay respect to our foremothers’ artistry?
This all day long … Elena Kanagy-Loux's article is right-on. I myself have made it a point in recent years not to share any content that glibly uses the phrase, "not your grandma's " because it's a) lazy and b) dismisses the real fact that grandmothers and older textile artists have worked hard to keep craft traditions alive and evolving, not to mention their immense skills. We should be thanking them and looking to them for inspiration, not mocking them. via @hyperallergic ❤️

At this point it’s almost every time I open the app that I see someone revolutionizing a hobby I didn’t know needed it.
“why is no one DIYing their own clothes anymore :(“
*calls crochet wearables ugly* *dedicates whole subreddits to mocking ppls bacttlejackets* *dedicate whole subreddits to mocking beginners* *never shows themselves sewing, crocheting, or knitting only complains about those who don’t* *lumps customizing preexisting clothes with sewing your own pieces from patterns and fabric under “DIY”* *calls punks with crust pants dirty* *is STILL harassing that woman on tiktok for her rust dyed pieces* *thinks just bc there’s no goth bar in their bible belt state and saw some annoying teenagers on tiktok the WHOLE ENTIRE DECADES LONG SUBCULTURE IS DEAD*
Pinhole cast on
The pinhole cast on allows you to start knitting in the round from the centre outwards without getting a hole in the middle.
mad that women say they're in their granny era for liking nature walks and crocheting and baking bread like man those are just normal life skills and hobbies that anyone should be able to do at any age
The National Park Service has released crochet/knit patterns! The triops is my favorite.
Here's their Ravelry:
But wait there's more if Ravelry isn't your thing:
crochet, lighthouse

I feel like something that doesnt get talked about enough is how fast fashion is coming to hobbies as well. Sure, you can sew, knit, and crochet something better than youd buy in store, but good luck finding quality materials
Want a fabric that doesnt fray from being gently caressed? Want yarn thats not 100% plastic and splits if you touch it wrong? Good luck finding that if you dont have a genuinely good crafts store near you.
Go on any thread where people are trying to figure out where to buy fabric. 50% of it is people saying big stores are servicable, online stores work, or the like, and the other 50% are talking about how bad the quality is or how the quality of a website dropped because it was bought out
Were running into a problem where fast fashiob is so integrated into society that even the ability to make your own, comfortable and long lasting, clothes is being threatened by capitalism
every time someone says ‘oh, you knit? do you like it?’ i have the marrow-deep urge to tenderly take their face in my hands and press my lips to their eyelids and telepathically transmit the full overwhelming awareness that i carry just beneath my skin every moment of every day of how important fiber crafts and textiles are and historically have been to humanity. every stitch i work is a thousand billion stitches that have already been worked and will be worked in the future, from the farthest reaches of prehistory until time immemorial. every spindle i spin is spun with the same flick of uncountable fingers from ages past, all united across history in the deceptively simple movement that has shaped history, and art, is the context within which every single person on earth has ever lived their life and lives their lives still. everything from our phones to our homes is given shape and form by the overlooked but utterly important textile arts.
‘of fucking course i like knitting, you jackass,’ i say gently. ‘i wouldn’t do it otherwise.’
