in order to unlearn racism u have to be willing to accept that u are racist. it’s not a bad thing to want to change for the better. it’s not a bad thing to say hey, the way i’ve been acting is racist and i don’t want to be racist anymore. when people of color are telling u ways in which u have been racist, it’s actually not cool to brush it off and say, well i didn’t mean it that way.. u actually have to make an effort to stop doing those things if u want to be able to actually say ur anti-racist. u can’t just say ur not racist because u don’t wanna be seen as racist. that’s not how unlearning racism works.

“um i’m actually a good person so calling me racist couldn’t possibly be true. ur just attacking me!” see how the racism is literally right there? see how ur just seconds away from calling me an angry black girl?

the way i understand the difference between blorbo and The Character is that blorbo activities are 1. fun and 2. voluntary. when youre rotating blorbo in your mind you’re playing with your tuoys. but when The Character has got ahold of you then you are a tortured artist being plagued by visions

I understand the need for the BBU (Benoit Blanc Universe) to remain focused on solving murders and not on Benoit’s personal life, but a Phillip-centric film would truly contain the most beautiful domestic hijinks because Benoit thinks he’s living in Sherlock Holmes but Phillip thinks they’re living in Frog and Toad

what really gets me about father jud in wake up dead man is that every person he meets, he immediately tries to understand. when he meets blanc, he asks questions about his faith, his childhood, etc. and really listens. he asks vera about her motivations as a lawyer, tries to engage with cy, talks about nat’s relationship with his wife and subsequent struggles, notices martha putting in all of the work around the church, even listens to samson talk about his addiction. this is in part due to the structure of the mystery, but i think it really works to advance the themes of the movie. jud treats everyone like a complex human being and not a one-dimensional caricature—not a “wolf”.
