If you went by what you see on TV youād think the nation was gripped in a collective outpouring of grief and.. it isnāt! No spontaneous flower tributes, no black armbands. People are just getting on with their lives. The only public displays are by brands and businesses.

King Charles and his ⦠consort (abridged version)
[id: screenshots of tiktok captions. the images say, ābut the only reason we still love princess diana is because she did not have the time to disappoint us.ā]
begging queer kids to read up on princess dianaās involvement with the community. yes, she was a rich, pretty monarch. yes, she died young.
but the reason why queer people love her is because she used her privilege during the aids crisis to advocate for sick queer men, when very few others would - much less someone of her status.
diana spent years advocating for the health and care of queer people with hiv/aids. in 1987, at the height of the epidemic, she opened the first specialist clinic dedicated to treating aids patients (the first clinic of itās kind in the uk).
she also fought public hysteria by hugging and shaking bare hands with aids patients, at a time when aids was thought to be spread by skin to skin contact. not only that, she visited patients in the clinic regularly and even comforted them through their sickness.
and when queen elizabeth told her to try focusing on āsomething more pleasantā?
diana ignored her and kept fighting.
and this is only her work towards the aids crisis. she publicly called out the royal family, brought attention to numerous world issues, and was known as an advocate for empathy and kindness. sheās known and loved as the peopleās princess for good reason
Diana also literally walked across a minefield (through a lane cleared by the humanitarian organization HALO Trust, which she was promoting, but there was still some risk). She used the paparazzi who always followed her around to raise awareness of the plight of landmine victims in Angola, met with survivors who still talk about her visit, advocated on their behalf to the UN, and then went to other places suffering the same problem.
Her advocacy was instrumental in helping push forward a treaty to ban the use, production, and export of land mines. She was attacked by British politicians for meddling in government policy, but the Ottawa Treaty was signed by 122 countries including the UK 3 months after her death. Oneof the anti-landmine groups in which she'd been involved received the Nobel Peace Prize.
The princess's backing brought the campaign wider attention, says the founder of an anti-landmine group.
Like Carrie Fisher, Diana wasn't a perfect human being. But she did indeed use her privilege to advocate for and amplify the voices of those with none.

on 13th September 2005 supernatural was first broadcast. this has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
Beautiful Stained Glass by Holdman Studios
my favorite scene in LotR as a kid was when Sam started miserably freestyling in the tower of Cirith Ungol and the only reason he ever found Frodo was because he deliriously tried to join in
ā¦i did read some of the novels, but i couldnāt get through them entirelyā¦
ā¦and so i genuinely have no idea whether or not this is serious. coz i mean, obviously, it could be a joke. but it could also have legitimately happened. people who have only seen the films underestimate the amount of random things that happen in the books that could come off as utterly silly and ridiculous if removed from their context.
Haha, well, it is pretty much what happens. Sam is looking for Frodo in the tower of Cirith Ungol and is despairing that he will ever find him. He sits down and does what any self-respecting Tolkien character does during their moments of hopelessness and bursts into song.
Itās a really good song (ten year old Ship had it memorized) and as he begins the refrain a second time, he hears Frodoās voice answering weakly from above. Frodo is poisoned and despairing and beaten but he is still a Hobbit and cannot resist a singalong even while on the brink of death.
saying āhm. must be the curseā every time something bad happens and refusing to elaborate is my new hobby

welcome to EVIL SCHOOL heres your timetable for the day first you have SHADOW MATH then after that you have CREEPY BIOLOGY then GYM
listen. padme amidala is a freak, okay. ever since aotc iāve had to listen to bullshit arguments about how awful the prequel romance is, how anakinās a red flag, blah blah blah. thatās a smooth brain take. first of all, of course heās a red flag. thatās the point. you think padme doesnāt know anakin is ten pounds of mommy issues in a five pound bag?Ā you think she looked at soggy weeping anakin begging her to love him and didnāt immediately think āyes i definitely will peg himā ?? you think just because sheās a queen turned senator that she isnāt just as horny and feral as he is? anakin wasnāt even pushy about it. he was just āoh btw iāve been obsessed with you for a decade and live in a perpetual state of emotional agony but thats okay whatever you want is fine with me hahaā and padme goesĀ āyea okay iām into that.ā two minutes after heās assigned to be her bodyguard she gives an obligatory little āi have a bad feeling about thisā and then just fucking marries him. this is a woman who wore white to a blood bath. come on.
#I like the prequels more now that Iāve decided to stop trying to shoehorn any characterās behaviors into normal boxesĀ #and instead just asked myself āwhat kind of person would make these choicesā and see the characters as thatĀ #Padme seriously wore a black corset to tell him she was very into him but they would not be fuckingĀ #instead of saying oh my god who DOES thatĀ #I just instead ask myself āwho does thatā and realize that explains a lot moreĀ #here is this wealthy educated and perhaps a little vain woman who sees her childhood hick charitycase friend grew up as a hot goth jockĀ #and oh no heās still space racist and awkward and yet she goes harder for him after finding that outĀ #sheās absolutely a freakĀ #her being a freak is actually the most polite way to interpret her characterĀ #because it intersects so interestingly with this virgin child queen who crowned the emperor shit thatās her actual legacyĀ #to be honest I still have no clue what Lucas intended to say with these characters but tehyre a lot more fun once you turnoff preconceptionsĀ #the OT trilogy are adorable and iconic but the PT trio are great because theres something fucking wrong with all of themĀ #just comically tragically the dumbest combination of disordered behavior from a group of protagonistsĀ #the OT trio are unlikely but largely successful heroes! The PT trilogy are hyper-competent child geniuses who grew up to beĀ #heavily decorated and famous heroes who break the entire setting forever and I love that for them!
