Culture. Virgin.

I loved it so much.

But one of the biggest things I’ve been thinking about over the last few weeks is the effect on fandom this new canon will have.  What the new tropes will be - what the fandom newbies will bring - what pairings will come out of it - how it changes the existing fandom characterization and conversation we’ve all been having for the last two years.

But what I woke up thinking about was this: the MCU fandom cannot ignore black characters any longer.  

Falcon pushes some rubble away to reveal two frightened children. He gives them a gaptoothed smile and tells them they’re gonna be just fine. They grin back, tearstained cheeks and all, and have huge stars in their eyes because ITs! THE FALCON!!! TO SAVE THEM!!! and they climb into his arms and he flies them to a safe zone set up elsewhere in the city. Just as they’re climbing down, Steve tells him over the comms “Package ready for pick-up”. Sam launches back into the sky; “On my way.”

Cut to Buckycap running away from a horde of baddies (idk what) on the top of some sky scraper. “Sit tight,” Steve says in his ear, “Sam’s on his way.” 

“Roger, Rogers,” Bucky says and promptly jumps the fuck off the roof. 

Cut back to Sam as Steve relays, “Package is airborne,” and Sam swears and puts on more speed. He catches Bucky before he hits ground and simultaneously saves him from a shot in the back or something. There’s an explosion. It’s cool and Sam is cool. Well, Sam’s objectively cool, he’s also screaming because Bucky is fucking heavy and he’s having to readjust their everything to keep from breaking Bucky’s ribs because physics and shit. 

“Package’s dumbass is saved,” Sam says. 

Let’s remember that the hyper-competent black woman who never gets a romance storyline and carries all the white people on her team, is not a progressively written character.  The trope exists to justify the centuries old bullshit of treating black women like unlovable beasts of burden while white women get to be treasured decorative objects to be protected (which is a better position, don’t lie, like it’s not ‘actual person’ good, but it’s a biiiig step up.)
