i wonder if you grieve me tooβif you miss my dissonant laughter or my unruly hair or my stubborn heart. do you regret it? does the closed door haunt you at night the way it haunts me? does the ghost of my smile still linger in your mind? do you feel disappointment when you realize that i no longer seek you out in rooms full of strangers?
i wish you love. i wish you peace. but truthfully i am haunted by the closed door, by your ghosts, and by glimpses of you in oceans of people. strip me bare and you will realize just how selfish i am in my longing for you. i hope my absence claws at your guts the way yours claws at mine.
if my love cannot be returned, then let my grief be requited in its stead.
