Heads up, everyone should be writing their letters, it’s easy to set up a filter and send pre-written emails directly to the trash bin or a spam folder, and it’s even more likely to happen with a hostile force like the police.

hey ellie sorry if im derailing your post, which is already excellent and absolutely correct on its own and thank you for saying it, but if you’ll forgive me for adding on: if ur gonna draw and post black sides in the name of the blm movement please like. at the very least. 1. take the time to educate yourself on the movement you are promoting, and 2. include even a single link to blm resources in the caption. 

See while I agree w/ all this, then the question becomes: isn’t doing what you stated still an act of being performative and disingenuous? What started off as a form of performative actions and a clear inability to understand real life issues without the need for fictional characters (whoever was that artist drawing Roman as black for the BLM movement and took it down) was followed with an influx of artists continuing to draw Roman as black to spite those who were voicing their concerns/ being uncomfortable about them drawing it (I’ve seen a lot of “anyways, if you’re racist get off my blog! #BlackLivesMatter! Radical🤘🏾) INSTEAD of just using their platform to spread support and information about these real life events. Right out the gate that shows just how illusioned y’all are. So the solution to that is to still let these artists draw the Sanders Sides characters as black and let them continue to associate that type of art with the BLM movement???? Isn’t that what we were telling y’all to stop doing in the first place?

you know what, i absolutely, completely agree with you. the “blm art” has struck me as being in incredibly poor taste since the beginning, but i didn’t want to publicly say anything critical myself because, as an nbpoc, i felt it wasn’t my place – just because it struck me as insensitive, insincere, and misdirected didn’t mean that i suddenly had a right to speak on behalf of bipoc, you know? my intention was only to encourage people who claimed to be “supporting blm” with their art to at least put in the effort to do something actionable to actually support blm in one way or another. i didn’t realize that this post might be encouraging even more empty “blm art” in the process, and for that i sincerely apologize.
