Guys I can't find a post on my own blog. It's of a quilt that's absolutely gorgeous--it looked like it was at an art show. It was a log cabin quilt but there was sort of a black hole on one side, and each log cabin block shrunk and it made it look like a gravitational well, sort of? It was so cool and I was trying to explain how versatile log cabin quilts are to someone. Please hellllpppppp

Do you ever mask your ADHD so hard for 28 years straight that it comes back around and you’re considered a great and organized student and then get an education degree and become a private tutor to help kids with ADHD and it costs $110 an hour and people start requesting you by name and haha and you just identify with your students so hard and finally one day you’re in a car with your best friend who is a therapist and you say that it sure is weird how everyone else in your family has ADHD and you’re the only one who doesn’t wow that’s crazy and she’s tactfully is like yes that sure is weird hm yes what a coincidence have you not considered or realized that you are also ADHD and you say look they’re building up the river bank they sure have done a lot of construction on the bridge lately and she goes please pay attention to the road it concerns me when you get distracted while driving and you say when am I distracted did you see those sandbags and then 12 months later you’re in your bed looking up masking symptoms because tumblr as convinced you it’s mostly just avoiding eye contact with people (which you do but also you were trying to explain to your partner about it) but it turns out it’s every trait that’s been praised in you for 28 years and you don’t even know if this body is your own anymore

i wanna shout out the top picture — the skull quilt was so cool first of all & it’s ALSO the artists FIRST QUILT??? it was so incredibly cool & detailed I rly loved it. i also wanna point out the last quilt here, all of these flowers are applique & i had so much trouble keeping from TOUCHING it (which ur not allowed to do ofc). it was so gorgeous. the close up square above it is from the same quilt. just wow!

THERE IS. a website. that takes 3D models with seams and pulls it apart to make a plushie pattern and informs you where things need to be edited or darts added for the best effect. and then it lets you scale it and print off your pattern. and I want to lose my MIND because I've lost steam halfway through so many plushie patterns in the mind numbing in betweens of unwrapping, copying all of the meshes down as pieces, transferring those, testing them, then finding obvious tweaks... like... this would eradicate 99% of my trial and error workflow for 3D models to plushies & MAYBE ILL FINALLY FINISH SCREAMTAIL...

let's you import markings so the pattern shows exactly where they go on the piece

let's you add little measurements on the model that are also visible on the pattern

let's you scale it beside a human

then calculates how much of each type of fabric you need, BASED ON YOUR DESIRED SEAM ALLOWANCE..

and finally gives you the finished pattern with the detailed names and instructions it's transcribed from your notes

When I say "extinct ecosystem", I mean those ecosystems that have existed in the past, with extinct animals and plants etc. inhabiting them

by their very definition, they are gone forever

there are ones that were truly unique, like Polar Tropical Forests and Fern Prairies, that we just could not have today

but there were ones that have equivalents to today, as well, like the first savannahs and steppes of the Miocene - they just have earlier versions of the plants and animals

there were so many because there are so many today, and each one had its own flora and fauna and was glorious

There's the wetlands and forests of Hell Creek in the Latest Cretaceous

the bizarre Volcanic Lake Forests of the Jehol Biota

whatever the hell the Ediacaran Reefs were

the Scale Tree Swamp Forests of the Carboniferous

"Mesozoic 2" aka pre-human Aotearoa

the Western Interior Seaway dominated by Mosasaurs

and so many other things, I couldn't possibly list them all. Every time period had its own biosphere and biomes, and they were all unique.

we have fossils of plants that showcase how different tropical plant lifestyles had to be up at the poles because of the light weirdness

the important part is "tropical", not "wet/rainforest". those are two different things

Temperate and Boreal Rainforests are wonderful and some of my favorite living biomes, but they aren't what I was talking about

Grass is a relatively recent thing

it first evolved in the latest Cretaceous, but it didn't actually take over everywhere until the Miocene, when grasses that process light differently (look up C3 vs C4 photosynthesis) evolved and just took the fuck over the planet

before then, other plants formed the low ground cover over the earth, and in many places those plants were ferns - spread all over the ground and covering it, much like grass, but significantly less dense. Dirt would have been much more common everywhere.

This is why I am begging every single game developer to remember that grass is not a neutral ground cover

do you like book recs? because there’s a really good book on the end Cretaceous extinction I read called The Last Days of The Dinosaurs by Reilly Black. and also one I really didn’t like called The Ends of the World by Peter Brannen. that one’s fine i guess but it’s kinda outdated and he keeps calling some extinct creatures weird and disgusting which was really offputting because they’re just little guys!
