Someone bursting into tears at the mere mention that they don’t seem to be feeling well. They’ve been trying to hide it for so long that the tender acknowledgment from a loved one is all it takes to unlock the flood of emotions they’ve been suppressing all day.

so many people ive known have pushed themselves to burnout trying to deny their disabled reality, skipping accommodations, skipping rests etc. and the world convinces them that the solution to their burnout is to push even harder. it’s a huge tragedy. i know social pressures make it tough but i want more disabled people to make things easier for themselves where possible, to opt out of things that harm them when possible, to quit while they’re ahead. be that person today! protect yourself where you can! take micro breaks while doing your hobby. get that shower chair. sit to brush your teeth. lie down in the middle of the day, even if only for 5 mins. these things add up and it’s so worth it.

eventually you realize you don’t want to die. you just don’t want to live the life you’re living. and slowly you try to create a life you want to live. just gotta start there.

For so many years I've been thinking I want my arms and legs to work

been throwing up all morning...I kinda like how vulnerable it makes me feel. can't stop my eyes from watering and taking struggled breathes between vomiting. stuck crouched over the toilet. forced to stare at whatever has been expelled from my stomach. the burning feeling in my throat and stomach. the nausea. just feeling totally disoriented and unable to react quickly cause my body is so focused on throwing up.

One of the most fucked up parts of America’s for-profit medical system and insurance often being tied to your work is that you cannot work if you are sick and if you are not working, you have no insurance. People are fired in the middle of cancer treatment or a severe mental health episode and suddenly there is no way to pay the hospital and buy the medicine you need. Republicans will outright say “You don’t deserve free healthcare if you’re lazy and unemployed.” anytime someone mentions this, actively ignoring the fact that you often cannot work when you are sick and shouldn’t be forced to work when you’re sick to be able to afford to get better.

And you will notice that they always refer to it as ‘free healthcare’, not taxpayer funded healthcare, not socialized medicine, not single-payer healthcare, always ‘free healthcare’, like it is an fantastical idea, like healthcare for all is as absurd as a 5 bedroom mansion with a pool for all. They need to make it sound like it is logistically impossible, like they could not take a fraction of the money in the DOD’s $2.5 trillion budget and make sure no one in America dies of an easily treatable illness just because they can’t work. It is very intentional.

I love having to spend 4x more on food than the average person, just because I had the audacity to be Disabled
