favourite prince myshkin mannerisms (some canon, some from adaptations and some headcanoned)
has a stutter
has a lisp
has a limp (should really use a cane but doesn't because he never really considered it)
looks alternately at different eyes while someone is speaking to him (like first left, then right and so fourth rapidly- like in the 2003 adaptation)
does the smile thing
stands leaning forward slightly
always has his hands together folded in front of him
talks either very jerkily - considering carefully what word to say next -or complete word vomit where it is almost like he doesn't even know what word will come out of his mouth next
is prone to burying his face in his hands
frolics in grassy areas
yawns frequently
paces as soon as he is alone (also does it when in the aforementioned word vomit state but especially when he is alone) even though it is painful for him

note in TBK (when aleksei first talks to the schoolboys) by translator martti anhava, who says: "Using te/вы [plural second person pronoun] for under-teen-age school boys feels, from today's perspective, at the very least unnatural and was likely abnormal at the time of the novel's writing as well. With his way of addressing, Aljoša wants to bring attention to his equal treatment [of the schoolboys]. Later the boys may also use te/вы of each other, for example in accordance with internal rankings. [...]"
i think aljoša also addresses the boys as "(hyvät) herrat" like "(good) gentlemen" which is funny

if i had a time machine i'd learn russian and go back to the mid 19th century and tell dostoevsky about polyamory. not bc i think it would make his stories any less tragic but i would like to see how it impacts the cuck fixation and homoeroticsm between guys pining for the same girl of the contemporary litrature.
I have explanations for all these, based on my own interpretations of the ball minigame in Undertale, which I will place under the cut:
🩵Smerdyakov being Patience is probably the most obvious one, so it won't need much explanation. Smerdyakov is discreet, quiet, assumed to be hard-working and honest by his master. He's a schemer waiting for the perfect moment to act, after working every day of his life.
🧡 Mitya as Bravery is another obvious one. He throws himself into everything he does, whether it leads him to shame or joy. He's frantic, going from one idea to the next and being led by his heart and his gut. He's also very easy to provoke. People around him see it as foolishness and madness, but he has immense potential to confront difficult circumstances and choose life without hesitation. He has ceased to try to "figure out" the world, what matters to him is what path to run to next.
💙 At first, I wasn't sure about Katerina as Integrity, because whether she has integrity or not is still highly debated. However, I'm not assigning the souls from personality traits, but from how they act in relation to the world. Integrity's "original style" seems to fit how Katerina seemingly tries to defy fate in order to do things her own way, to carry her own ideas of duty to their very end. On the outside, she seems like a respectable young lady, but she often defies social convention like a Romantic heroine, all in the name of sacrifice chosen by herself.
💜 Grushenka as Perseverance also relates to how she does things rather than an obvious connection to her personality traits. Grushenka has been in a precarious position in society since she was young. She has found herself impoverished, abandoned, scorned and exploited, and yet she found her ways to use the little power she found within herself to escape from being trapped by men, even if she had to harden her heart. She doesn't merely throw herself into degradation, she carries herself forward and still longs for love, becoming a refreshing presence for Alyosha and Mitya.
💚I was a bit hesitant about who to give Kindness to, but Father Zosima fits like a glove. He renounced to everything in his life to dedicate himself to caring for others and guiding them. After death, he was scorned, but his teachings live on in those he loved, and that's his "victory".
💛 Ivan as Justice is the least obvious one, but I believe it has potential to serve as good character analysis. The flavour text, while vague, reminds me of how Ivan doesn't pull any punches when it comes to exposing the dirt of what he sees as human nature and pointing out what makes him reject the world and its "mayhem". He skips all the rational steps to go straight to the suffering of children, judging and accusing Humanity as a whole. It's a reactive argument that fits this characterization of "Justice": he identifies the unwanted elements and hastens to protect himself. He doesn't run towards it or adopt a caring attitude. The flavour text is also in line with the characterization of one of his doubles, the Grand Inquisitor, who goes to the very roots of the problem of unhappiness to end a chaotic existence and closes himself off. And on top of it all, Ivan struggles with guilt over his secret parricidal desires, which culminate in a cathartic moment before a judge and a jury.
❤️ The meaning of the red heart as Determination is not agreed upon, however, I will go with it because it fits Alyosha, alongside the flavour text. Alyosha, who is defined from the beginning as a youth who eagerly searches for the truth with quiet passion, is potential personified, starting off timid and inexperienced and discovering his own virtues as the story goes to deal with a family falling apart, his fears, his ideas being challenged, the meanness of the people around him, grief and the inevitability of tragedy. In the end, he comes out hopeful and ready to see what the world has to offer. The rest of the flavour text, which is not pictured in the images, says: "Try as you might, you continue to be yourself". Alyosha is still a Karamazov, but he has made the story end with "Hurrah for Karamazov" when it used to be synonymous with losing oneself.
