• In the most recent production I saw, there were two older people in the cast, approximately in their 60s. During some songs, in this case Day by Day, the older man would stand off to the side and do sign language. At one point, Jesus left the performance of the song to stand by his side and do it with him. 😭💛 AND THEN. Of course, during On the Willows, Jesus revisits the gestures he created with each disciple as a way to say goodbye—and the very first goodbye was to the old man: they simply smiled at each other as they did the sign language of Day by Day before hugging. I was fighting so hard not to bawl

• Judas wearing a My Chemical Romance shirt

• Little kid, around 8 years old, being the Light of the World soloist and KILLING it.

• I love when the goofiest character doesn't sing a stereotypically goofy song like We Beseech Thee, but rather something gentle and beautiful. In the case of one production, the Goofy Guy™ was the All Good Gifts soloist. Additionally, the song ended with no grand gesture highlighting the soloist as is usually done, but a long hug between him and Jesus.

• A drag queen performance of Turn Back O Man

• Speaking of Turn Back O Man, a different production's performance where the soloist wore an expression of rage at the very end of the song. It's very important to me that Turn Back O Man is recognized as the deep, haunting warning and protest that it actually is—and I could tell the director and actress understood that side of the song.

• A painted backdrop of the junkyard sunrise, as is in the movie! It's always been one of my favorite pieces of Godspell imagery. Additionally, when the crucifixion is foreshadowed in the backdrop with what is disguised as some kind of sun or star. I'm not entirely sure how to explain it, but in one production, the cross was a huge set piece lying on its side imitating the sun and its rays. To anyone going in completely blind, the reveal that it is actually the cross when it's lifted by the disciples would be quite shocking.

• Also, foreshadowing of Jesus's hanging pose during the baptism when he extends his arms
