To celebrate the upcoming event of Dr. Gears' birthday which occurs on August, 18th, I decided to bundle up this small challenge of fanworks for the folks of SCP-tumblr to participate in together with myself.
Basically, #drgearsweek2026 is your typical "week of [character]-related fanworks" challenge with no specific tweaks to it. So, if we speak of any sort of "guidelines", it's simple:
All forms of fanworks are welcome: fanarts, fanfics, even something as little as headcanons ramble is accepted if it lands well into the day's theme.
Prompts can be interpreted however you please as they're meant to serve solely as inspiration.
You don't have to post for all seven days to contribute, you can just choose a few days of your liking and participate during them. Or merge them all into one giant artwork for the last day, why not?

i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.
James Gurney is an absolute master and gives really good clarity on colour techniques. Yes, it is traditional paint focused, but the principles are the same. Yes it is informed by the environmental colour but as a painting technique it is achieved this way!
I would also suggest that in digital processing, rather than apply a regular colour layer at a mid opacity, try out the different types of layers, Eg. Screen or Multiply. This can give you at least a starting point to help direct your colour palette.
Layer Blend Modes are so so so important to working in digital art. There's a ton of math that goes into figuring out how the layers should blend together, which is why some of the modes you can pick are literally called Multiply, Add, Divide, and Difference (that's subtraction). The graphics software takes the color values of your base and blend layers and runs a calculation to get your resulting layer appearance. The ones that don't have specifically mathematical sounding names are still doing calculations, but they're more complicated (think linear Algebra and higher). Some of them, like dodge and burn, are named for actual photo editing techniques.
While it's not super important to know about the mathematical side of blend modes, I think it's worth knowing at least enough about how each of the categories of blend modes works and why they do what they do; if for no other reason than having a starting point when you start experimenting with them in your work.

One of them being her closest companion is her pink meanie jellyfish called “C.C”, who's often in a water sphere (that helps it move in the air but within waters still) and constantly accompanies Dr. Kypria wherever she goes, she (C.C) also sort of works similarly to that of a service animal— I mean Kypria still can see with her closed eyes (just more comfortable), but C.C helps with making her feel safe and not alone

I can't believe in all my 32 years of life I've never made a vampire character before, but that's ended this month! This is mia princessa Leila Lottecossovo, a vampire created in Elizabethan (specifically post-1550's) Florence!

So I figure I can update this as I flesh out her character more, but for now here's what I've got on her:
How old is she?
She's physically 22 but mentally 26.
What does she do for a living?
She's a professional actress in the commedia dell'arte theater troupe "La Sopravvissuti", where she holds the position "first Zanni". Essentially, she has been with the troupe long enough that she has first pick of any Zanni roles (harlequin, pulcinella, scapino, and others).
Does she have any family?
Her mother died in childbirth and her father died when she was 5. A pair of her paternal piblings and their kids moved into her home after her father's death, but when she was 7 she was kicked out and adopted by the leader and director of La Sopravvissuti, Signore Reggi. She considers Paola, one of the senior actresses her aunt, and appropriately calls her Zietta.
"La Sopravvissuti"?
Yes! The troupe's name translates to "The Survivors", because many are immigrants, outcasts, and veterans. The troupe was originally Signore Reggi's father's attempt to reunite some of his war buddies and give them a creative outlet, and Reggi continues his father's work in very much the same way.
How long has she been a vampire?
Four years! She's still getting the hang of it and coming to terms with it.
How did she get turned?
As a way of supporting the troupe and covering expenses, each actor is expected and encouraged to seek out patrons, who will watch their performances and enjoy the progression of their careers. In efforts to see their "pet actors" succeed, many will provide lodging, clothes, allowances, or networking connections. Leila was turned by one of these patrons, who had seduced her into sleeping with him, and while intoxicated, he turned her. She did consent, technically, but he didn't tell her all the side effects of vampirism.
Does she feed on human blood?
She does, yes! When her patron turned her he kept her locked in his mansion for a full season, until she had some semblance of control over her instincts. During that time she fed on people her patron brought to the house, but once she was freed from under his thumb and returned to the troupe, she still fed on strangers. After a couple of months she realized an obvious solution: asking for the consent of performers in the troupe, to "feed" during their menstrual cycles. It's her current go-to, so she doesn't hunt.
Wait so if that's how she feeds, is she queer?
Yes! She doesn't have the same language for it in her time as we do now, but we would classify her as "pansexual" and "demiromantic".
So is she in love with anyone then? Any of her feeding partners?
I haven't written that portion yet, but if you have a vampire oc who would be alive in that time and would make sense as a thespian, let me know! ^^ She does still pine for her first love though, and I haven't written in whether or not she's told him what she is yet.
