emil literally said "you don't need memories to fight" as reasoning to divide himself n protect the planet. humans were extinct by that point, so he was only protecting places n things that had sentimental value - this sentiment, the memories, were all he had left @ that point. imagine sacrificing that to protect smth. imagine sacrificing ur memories n knowledge for the sake of power, for the sake of protecting what u hold dear, n knowing nothing in the aftermath aside from "I need to protect this." that's so so scary. to have no idea what ur doing, where u r, what ur purpose is, n y ur feeling a certain way, but he did that.
