I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study

after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines

genuinely made me start questioning my sanity around day 3, it's half the size the of the goose, WHY did it take me 4 days to finish??

the male and female ones are gonna be posted separately bc they're taking a lot longer lol but yea! super happy i was able to capture the iridescent green of the head, i found metallic green and blue paint at a craft store that really made his head POP. it looks better in person i promise

ALSO!! As this is the 10th one, BIG announcement. The end is in sight!!!!! I plan to finish within the next 3 weeks and there will be a small dedication ceremony/ unveiling happening at the library to commemorate its completion on the 16th of May. and NOW that they are complete, ITS GO TIME, in the next five days (library's closed for mother's day 😭😭) i need to have the GBH fully rendered, the names of the birds vectored, weeded, masked, applied to the wall, and then painted, plus additional cattails throughout. I may be able to get away with just getting the GBH done in time for the unveiling and then just have the names and cattails added later, but i'm gonna really try to get it all done in time. BUT, i have a plan. Part of why i take so long on these is because i really am just figuring it out as I do it lmao. there have been many a time where i am sitting on top of the ladder googling "how to paint birds" but I think if i take the time tomorro to do all that figuring out how to approach it beforehand, this will go a lot faster. I may also recruit some of my artist friends to help with the placing of the names... hrmm we'll see.

Anyways, shout out to the librarian who tracked down exactly the thing i needed so i could figure out where to place the highlights in my birds eyes, ur the real mvp

thank you to everyone who reached out or got excited about this project, it genuinely gave me the fuel i needed to keep going. In total, the 480+ total hrs it took me to cover this wall pales in comparison to how long its expected to spend on there, hopefully imparting a sense of beauty and love for the natural world to the next generation and here's hoping i'm only getting started with these.

ajattelin tässä kysellä, että jos mä järkkäisin jonkun suomenkielisen fanfic-tapahtuman, niin olisko kiinnostuneita osallistumaan?

Siis toistaseks konsepti ois ihan vaan että tapahtuma jossa kannustetaan toisiamme kirjottamaan fanficceja suomeks, koska mä tiedän et monessa fandomissa se on herkäst yksinäinen kokemus (paitsi varmaan jos on Tuntematon Sotilas -fani, mut mun on myönnettävä etten siihen vielä oo ite kerinny ruveta :D ), mutta ainaki itestä se on hauskaa kutenki välillä suomekski kirjottaa. Lähtökohtasesti ajattelisin, että kaikki fandomit tervetulleita, ja saa kirjottaa minkälaista ficciä vaan haluaa (ja miksei sais myös äänittää podficcejä tai tehdä suomenkielisiä fanisarjakuvia, jos se ois jonkun juttu), kunhan vaan kielenä on pääasiallisesti suomi. Mutta tarkkoja sääntöjä voi vielä tarpeen mukaan hioa jos mä tätä oikeesti rupeen järjestämään

Lähtökohtasesti tää olis vaan joko yhden päivän tapahtuma, tai sitten viikon mittanen, riippuen miten kiinnostujien toiveet on (eli jos ois kiinnostusta tähän tapahtumaan niin mulle saa kertoa että oisko yksittäinen päivä vai viikon juttu enempi se oma). Mitään viikkoa pitempää tapahtumaa mä en rupea järjestämään.

Varmaan jos järjestän tän, niin tapahtumalle olis oma Archive of Our Own -collection, johon tapahtumaa varten kirjotettuja ficcejä voi postata. (Jos päädyn yhden päivän tapahtumaan, niin collection olis alkuun unrevealed ja siihen vois etukäteen postata omia ficcejään jotka sit tapahtumapäivänä paljastetaan; viikon tapahtuman kanssa collection olis julkinen viikon alusta alkaen ja siihen vois sen viikon ajan postata töitään.) En tiedä tekiskö tapahtumaa varten kans jonku listan aiheita/teemoja joita osallistujat vois käyttää inspiraationa, mitä luulette? Toki sit niiden pitäis olla suht epämääräsiä, jotta niitä vois käyttää inspiksenä vaikka kirjottais ficciä mihin fandomiin tai millä hengellä ja tyylilajilla vaan

Jos mä järjestän tämän, niin järjestän sen varmaan joskus syksyllä, ja pidän siitä kyllä kans sillon meteliä. Tän postauksen on tarkotus olla lähinnä vaan alustava interest check että mä tiedän innostuisko tästä tarpeeks väkeä, että mun on järkeä suunnitella tätä sen pidemmälle

Ne jotka asiaa on kommentoineet näkyy toivovan viikon mittaista tapahtumaa, joten sillä mennään. Ristittäköön tapahtuma siis näin mukavirallisen kuulosesti Suomalaisten faniteosten viikoksi, ellei kellään ole nimeksi parempia ehdotuksia

Alustavasti laitan ajankohdaksi syyskuun toiseksi viimeisen täyden viikon, eli siis 14.-20.9.2026. Onhan siihen aikaa, mutta haluun antaa itelleni väljää kaiken suunnitteluun yms, kun mulla kuulemma oma elämäkin on, ja ekaa kertaa lähen tämmöstä vetämään nii ei voi pitää itsestäänselvänä että kaikki menis niinku strömsössä :P Huomatkaa, että ajankohta voi siis vielä muuttua, jos muuttuu niin pidän siitä kyllä meteliä, mutta toistaiseksi tää olis ajatus

(aika valikoitui jotakuinkin summanmutikassa; vähän harkitsin sitäkin että olisko hassu idea pistää tapahtuma osumaan päällekkäin Aleksis Kiven päivän ja suomalaisen kirjallisuuden päivän kanssa, mutta se menee lokakuun puolelle ja mä tiedän että lokakuussa on aina hirvee määrä erinäkösiä whatever-tobereita menossa, enkä mä katso järkeväks yrittää kilpailla osallistujista niiden kanssa. Syksyn kokisin kuitenkin itelleni parhaaks ajaks näillä näkymin tämän järjestämiseen, ja ennemmin syyskuun kun marraskuun, joten sillä sitten syyskuu ja napataan sieltä random viikko)

Tapahtuman tarkemmat säännöt, promptit, yms tulee vasta myöhemmin. Ei sillä että säännöt varmaan kovin monimutkaset olis, toivon että mahollisimman paljolti voidaan mennä maalaisjärjellä, mutta muutama asia on jotka varmaan pistän kirjoitettuina sääntöinä, että ne on sit varmasti sanottu.

Multa on jotkut toivoneet päivittäisiä prompteja/teemoja inspiraatioks ja sitä että ne ehkä jollain tapaa liittyis suomeen/suomalaiseen kulttuuriin; en suoraan lupaa mitä tarkkoja prompteja tähän tulee, mutta jotain kehitän kyllä, ja pyrin pitämään esitetyt toivomukset mielessä. Koitan tehdä niistä toki kans suhteellisen vapaatulkintaisia, mutta katsotaan sit sinnempänä mihin tarkalleen päädytään. Luultavasti mennään myös sillä, että vaikka ne promptit on olemassa, niin niitä ei ole pakko käyttää jos ei tahdo tai on joku ihan muu idea jo valmiiks.

Mutta joo. Alustavasti tällasia ajatuksia; kommentteja otetaan vastaan, ja kaikkea tarkennetaan myöhemmin lähempänä varsinaista ajankohtaa

Toivon myös että kysymykset, toiveet, ym kommentit lähetettäis mieluiten sinne. Vastaan toki kaikkeen tällä ja muillakin tileilläni jos kysymyksiä tulee, mutta jos ne esitetään tapahtuman varsinaiselle tilille niin ne on mun helpompi löytää tarvittaessa jälkeenpäin

My name is Maram, I am 25 years old from Gaza. I dreamed of a peaceful life, spending my life with my husband and my three children... but the war turned this dream into an impossible one 💔😭. We lived through this genocide with all its painful details and we are still suffering from it😭. We were so happy when the ceasefire was announced, and we returned to our homes in northern Gaza after being displaced for a year and a half in a tent in the south of the Gaza Strip.
