i really do like the extra detail MXTX added by having ling wen also be worshiped as the opposite sex and thus is more powerful when appearing as male.

qingxuan still has the tropey backstory of being raised as the opposite sex that you see in a lot east asian media(that honestly needs to have some essays that i'm not qualified to write dissect), but there's still a very clear contrast between the cis woman ling wen who only grits her teeth and turns into a male to appear to her misogynistic followers who couldn't imagine a woman being a civil god, and turns back into a female form at first opportunity,

and qingxuan, who flips between her forms on a dime and has to be yelled at by her older brother because 'i don't care which form you prefer, stay in your male form when you don't have a reason to change!' and is constantly attempting to find legitimate excuses to transform into a girl at any opportunity

say what you like about him but i have a lot of respect for luo binghe’s courtship methods. like he tried the “look what you’re missing out on” approach okay, he gave it a fair go. “look how cool and hot and powerful i am” is a straight up classic and he had it nailed down, he had his evil sword and dramatic poses to strike, he was locked tf in. but then when that failed to work he pivoted like a champion, going from his sexy badass persona to full-on sad kitten out in the rain, and i don’t think he gets enough credit for that. he is a grownass demonic emperor with subjects and presumably a lot of enemies looking for weakness, and yet he has fully committed to the untried and extremely specific “warbling baby bird” approach to wooing shen qingqiu. he is wailing and clinging to the best of his exceptional ability, all dignity abandoned, to get his man. that’s dedication.

what if, post-canon, before he gets put back together again, guzi starts using his lantern as a night light?? every time he gets scared, he just... scoots a little closer to his dad's lantern? and sure, most night lights make the shadows darker and the night scarier, but that doesn't happen here. that's no ordinary lantern, that's qi rong's lantern. it's his dad's, and his dad's a calamity, he didn't get that fuckin distinction from being some tiny punk two-bit weakling of a ghost, shadows are scared of him for crying out loud and he'd kick the ass of any of em that dared. so, being near that lantern makes guzi feel safer than anything, because it makes him feel like his dad's watching over him, protecting him from anything hidden in the dark.
