at worst it feels like "ugh this guy again 😒" but again. we've seen how qifrey acts towards people he legitimately hates and annoyance certainly isn't hatred. 😭

Yeah, I feel the same way you do! Anyone thinking otherwise shows that one little bit of their first interaction where Easthies is moments from wiping Coco's memory, but they also forget how Qifrey acted toward Olly in the same situation:

Same sort of face, same sort of aggressive expression.

But everyone with a brain knows that Qifrey cares deeply for Olly, and their relationship may even be revealed as romantic some time in the future given what we've seen of them and how they act like a married couple.

When not acting like a wounded animal with his back against the wall, he's more mildly annoyed toward Easthies, and Easthies actually has no problem listening and dropping the issue once he realizes Coco belongs to Qifrey, despite the jab he gives. If it were any other master, we KNOW Easthies, we see how he acts toward others - he would not have let that change his mind. He only listened because Coco's master was Qifrey of all people. We know this because we see how he lacks any room for argument in every other situation we've seen, and Qifrey is the only thing different here - there's no other explanation than a laxness provided to someone he knows well enough to insult.

And I need to not talk abt anything critically or analyze at all on Twitter bc it's always like talking to a brick wall

But I do think it's sad that so many fans got annoyed with that and thought it was downplaying their relationship cuz like... Obviously they're not Mortal Enemies. Obviously they do not capital H Hate each other.

You don't go bring your mortal enemy something to keep him safe. You don't look at your mortal enemy with mild annoyance and accept something they give you without extreme suspicion.

You don't use your mortal enemy's gift to you and wonder why he didn't simply tell you why he gave it to you.

Anyway I needed to get that out my system. Obviously they have history we haven't seen yet, likely due to them both being apprentices of wises; they probably have some level of familial dislike for each other due to Easthies' master having never wanted Beldaruit to take in Qifrey. Cousins who don't see eye to eye in a way. But ofc twitter users cannot hold space for any sort of nuance.
