when the multifaceted life we all experience is multifaceted...
my partner said something that kinda rocked my world
the odyssey pretty fun movie actually and is not deserving of half the discourse it’s inspired but it is insane to see a movie where every woman’s actions are motivated by fear of or in response to rape and yet the act is never committed, threatened, or even alluded to by any of the male characters except the occasional denial of their intentions to do so. the movie’s big reveal is that the violation of a young woman during the fall of troy is the core point of trauma for odysseus and the tipping point that has led to the downfall of their entire civilization; the entire plot hinges upon this moment. but the movie cannot explicitly present this violation as rape (what it is obviously standing in for, especially within the context of the myth of the trojan women) and instead “softens” it to murder. and why is this? what’s the purpose of not just saying what it is and what this part of the story is about? it’s so obvious to the audience, so intrinsic to the fabric of the legend, that at a point its absence overwhelms its presence. rape exists in nolan’s odyssey, it’s a fundamental part of the story and a textual lived reality for all of the women but it can never be made explicit that the men themselves -even the most heinous- are committing it. it’s truly bizarre. he can’t tell the story without rape but is too offended and overwhelmed by it to know how to sensitively keep it in.
nowhere else to write my feelings about this but the way people are talking about ariana grande is the most batshit thing i have ever experienced in my life and its like 109th time in my late 20s ive realized that people online are sooo hypocritical and evil and STRANGE and they genuinely do not hear or see themselves or view celebrities as people who we DO NOT KNOW... and i think the part thats insane to me is i was an overweight kid growing up and friend im still an overweight woman LOL seeing a very skinny celebrity is .. well.. par for the course and it has never affected me any more than the way fatphobia in general is shoved down our throats in our daily lives and being talked down to by my own family, friends, and all the media we consume lol. i know my experience isn't monolithic and i'm sure there may be little girls who like ariana and try to look like her which is very sad but also like. i just dont understand how ariana having an eating disorder makes her a bad person just because little girls happen to like her. being SICK is not a moral failing. if you are so certain she has an eating disorder then treat it as such. and it should be YOUR job to talk to the little girls in YOUR life and do your best to instill healthy habits and healthy esteem in them.
i just think people sound very cruel and unusual and can never talk about things with nuance or talk to the people in their lives about things instead of making tone deaf tiktoks and tweets and calling ariana's body ugly and disgusting and putting your own thoughts about what she is doing or experiencing out as factual truth. all under the guise of caring about her or caring about the little girls of the world. you are very online and weird and truly lack empathy and intelligence

#cliniciantalk when i have sessions where i talk more than the client i feel like a flop LOL because i know myself and i know that i often talk a lot to fill silence and sometimes i'm afraid it comes across as preachy. but honestly when i've been in therapy, i actually find a lot of comfort from my therapist providing insight and encouragement when i struggle to know what to say or what's wrong. i think it's just a mix of trying to be authentic and real and not overstepping a boundary of thinking i know exactly how the client feels but also like i said, wanting to provide that comfort when it feels appropriate instead of sitting in silence. i do think i'm still able to utilize silence with some clients when it comes to wanting them to further process or elaborate on something that i can tell is difficult to talk about. idk i think i always (in life) feel insecure when i talk too much AT someone

it’s so special to me that so much of fan culture is textual analysis for the love of the game. like thank god there are people in my phone who are also thinking about this thing i love so much that they are writing transformative fiction as character studies and setting clips of the show to music with theme-relevant lyrics and writing long text posts analyzing every line of dialogue like!! yay!!!
