you're just mad because you're hungry and tired and your legs hurt and you head hurts and you're too hot and you have depression
I feel bad for people whoâve never experienced a corn maze bc itâs not even fun but you just have to do it
I'd like to reblog this with some tags and comments bc I've really appreciated reading them
people who get what I mean:
people who have found a way to have fun in the corn maze but who I'm a little worried about:
person who we are going to put in the corn:
Itâs crazy and fucked up that being yourself is actually the solution.
Itâs like. When I was told to âjust be yourselfâ as a kid I thought it was a passive thing. Like oh easy I just have to sit here and be myself. but the reason so many people think that âbeing yourselfâ is bullshit advice is because you actually have to make active choices to do this and it WILL make your life way more fun. You have to wear t-shirts of bands that were popular ten years ago because you like them. You have to do your hair in a way that you find cute or comfortable even if itâs âso ninetiesâ. If your friend says a food you enjoy is gross to them, you canât be afraid to admit you casually disagree. You have to do hobbies that youâre interested in even if youâre bad at them and you cant feel like you have to get good at something before you tell people itâs an activity you do. You have to read manga and comic books in public and get piercings your relatives think are unattractive. You donât have to tell people you dislike that you dislike them, but you donât have to give them your time and attention either. You have to rewatch that kids show youâre nostalgic for even if youâre in your 30s. You have to change your name if you hate it, even if only a few close friends can know. You have to get fun girly drinks at the bar. You have to order hot chocolate when you donât like coffee and black coffee when you donât like sweet things. I am still bad at practicing this but it is the only way to make it all tolerable.
iâm going to take a moment to deviate from my usual posts, so bear with me: the actress starring in the 2020 Mulan remake, Liu Yifei, has just voiced her support for the Hong Kong police. these are the police who have been brutalizing protestors for several months now with batons, tear gas, and rubber bullets, and recently blinded a young medic in one eye. Liu has a social media platform of 65 million followers, and has been in the national spotlight since her casting - her words have influence and impact. her conscious decision to stand by the HK police sends a clear message: that violence against civilians is acceptable as a means of control, intimidation, and suppression.
this breaks my heart. as a person of Chinese descent, Mulanâs character was a source of inspiration and empowerment throughout my childhood, and Iâm sure I wasnât alone in my excitement to see the remake, but Iâm even more saddened and disgusted by Liu Yifeiâs support of the police. note that Liu is a naturalized American citizen, and reaps the benefits of freedom and democracy in the US while supporting those who are fighting to silence it in China.
if Mulan were real and here now, she would be out on the streets of Hong Kong, fighting for the fundamental rights of 7 million Hong Kong citizens. please, please, please consider boycotting this movie. skip it, pirate it, do what you need to do, but show that you wonât stand for police brutality.

I havent seen anyone talk about this yet so im making a post.Â
So lets say youâre researching something for a paper (or just for fun) and the research paper you want to read is behind a paywall, or the site makes you create an account first, or makes you pay to download, or limits you to only 5 free articles, or otherwise makes it difficult for you to read what you want.
do not fear! copy the link to the article
go to sci-hub.se     (the url is always changing so its best to check out whereisscihub.now.sh to find what the current url is)
slap the article link in there

#even if this isnt 100% accurate people in the notes dont seem to realize translating was done by a human with human intentions and morals#the reason why i dont take the Bible for gospel is because we have no idea what the original text was meant to say#every single translation has been chosen by someone to fit their narrative#i dont put tons of weight on a thousand plus year old book and thousand plus year old rules (via @markwatnae)
Literally though, why would you hide this in the tags, itâs absolutely a brilliant take and what people should do.
I was curious to know if this wasnât just a Tweet making basesless claims, but apparently an openly gay Christian by the name of Ed Oxford has been researching this issue for years. Hereâs some interesting bits from an article [link] about this tweet.Â
YOU HAVE BEEN PART OF A RESEARCH TEAM THAT IS SEEKING TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE DECISION WAS MADE TO PUT THE WORD HOMOSEXUAL IN THE BIBLE. IS THAT TRUE?
Ed: Yes. It first showed up in the RSV translation. So before figuring out why they decided to use that word in the RSV translation (which is outlined in my upcoming book with Kathy Baldock, Forging a Sacred Weapon: How the Bible Became Anti-Gay) I wanted to see how other cultures and translations treated the same verses when they were translated during the Reformation 500 years ago. So I started collecting old Bibles in French, German, Irish, Gaelic, Czechoslovakian, Polish⌠you name it. Now Iâve got most European major languages that Iâve collected over time. Anyway, I had a German friend come back to town and I asked if he could help me with some passages in one of my German Bibles from the 1800s. So we went to Leviticus 18:22 and heâs translating it for me word for word. In the English where it says âMan shall not lie with man, for it is an abomination,â the German version says âMan shall not lie with young boys as he does with women, for it is an abomination.â I said, âWhat?! Are you sure?â He said, âYes!â Then we went to Leviticus 20:13â same thing, âYoung boys.â So we went to 1 Corinthians to see how they translated arsenokoitai (original greek word) and instead of homosexuals it said, âBoy molesters will not inherit the kingdom of God.â
I then grabbed my facsimile copy of Martin Lutherâs original German translation from 1534. My friend is reading through it for me and he says, âEd, this says the same thing!â They use the word knabenschander. Knaben is boy, schander is molester. This word âboy molestersâ carried through the next several centuries of German Bible translations. Knabenschander is also in 1 Timothy 1:10. So the interesting thing is, I asked if they ever changed the word arsenokoitai to homosexual in modern translations. So my friend found it and told me, âThe first time homosexual appears in a German translation is 1983.â To me that was a little suspect because of what was happening in culture in the 1970s. Also because the Germans were the ones who created the word homosexual in 1862, they had all the history, research, and understanding to change it if they saw fit; however, they did not change it until 1983. If anyone was going to put the word in the Bible, the Germans should have been the first to do it!
Like many ancient texts, Leviticus was created gradually over a long period and includes the words of more than one writer. [âŚ] An earlier edition of Leviticus, then, may have been silent on the matter of sex between men.
[..] there is good evidence that an earlier version of the laws in Leviticus 18 permitted sex between men. In addition to having the prohibition against same-sex relations added to it, the earlier text, I believe, was revised in an attempt to obscure any implication that same-sex relations had once been permissible.
The key to understanding this editorial decision is the concept of âthe exception proves the rule.â [..]
Now, apply this principle to Leviticus 18: A law declaring that homosexual incest is prohibited could reasonably be taken to indicate that non-incestuous homosexual intercourse is permitted.
TL;DR: The word âhomosexualâ wasnât added to the Bible until the RVS translation in the 1983, which was funded by Americans. Older translations in other languages such as German specifically use the word âknabenschanderâ which directly translates to âboy molester.âÂ
And yes, thereâs pics:
Figures this reblog wouldnât appear in the notes.Â
Edit: Well at least this one does.
