What I feel people frequently forget about autistic special interests is that they aren't always information based. They may simply be visual or mental

Someone may have a special interest in a show, but instead of that meaning that they will talk about that show often, it may mean they watch that show extremely frequently.

Special interests are ways of regulating, not simply encyclopedias we have in our heads. Sometimes it's watching something frequently. Maybe only listening to one genre of music, maybe it's a collection, maybe it's an action. I'm tired of it only being seen as autistic people's personal encyclopedias

some autistic people's special interests include water or batman but they'll know nothing about the science or history/comics behind either- the water guy really just loves how water feels because of tactile sensory stuff and swims and bathed often- he likes looking at reflections and light refractions in the water not because he's fascinated by how light bends but because it's pretty and he can do it for hours like he's watching a beloved show and he can't tell you about water scarcity or the ecology of aquatic or marine ecosystems he just loves baths and drinking water man. The guy who likes batman might have batman themed merch and frequently watch related media but isn't into character analysis and isn't deep into the comic lore- even if he's still obsessive it doesn't manifest as him being an encyclopedia and if you ask him about batman he might be incapable of infodumping- it just makes him happy without much deeper thought. Idk it annoys me a lot that this is how autistic special interests are always talked about
