text: [ βSome of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we canβt do things weβve been doing for 5000 years.β ]
And they're absolutely specifically pushing it, make no mistake. It's not just a matter of "it's there, it's convenient, so people are going to take the path of the least resistance", it is a legitimate and concerted effort on the part of these companies to get people to outsource all these things to their models.
They're preying on insecurities to do it. Yes, you can write an essay - but can you write a good essay, they ask you. Do you not want to improve your output? Do you not want people to think of you as competent and very clever? Why go through the mortifying process of failing and failing and failing until you succeed if you can just skip the "learning" part of doing, and simply generate a ready-made product?
I'm preaching to the choir here obviously but it's a concerning thing to witness nonetheless. My kid is 6 next week and I've been teaching her that failing at things is morally neutral and in fact necessary even before the advent of AI, but it's becoming ever more important that we teach the kids that criticism and failure and discomfort aren't necessarily bad things, but just a part of the growth process.
AI companies are heavily invested in making themselves relevant. They want people to believe they can't do the things they have done unaided before and to make them become reliant on the AI models, so the AI models' existence is artificially justified.
As much as a lot of people mention the narrative that KND attempts to tell, I wonder if the show really had much intention of telling it. I can't stop thinking about this one podcast hosted by Maxwell Atoms that Mr. Warburton made an appearance on. It's really insightful on not only how the animation industry worked in the 2000s, but also how KND was handled during its production. Ironically, it seems he and his crew intended on making KND something more episodic despite its bits of narrative. He, Atoms, and Greg Miller remark on how they enjoy the rather fast-paced environment of working with television. Instead of being stuck with one idea for years with film, you can explore multiple ideas and move onto the next thing if it doesn't seem to work out.
I get that appeal. Even in narrative-based shows, you can only dilly-dally and explore the show's world so much until you lose the plot. Many KND episodes are incredibly fun because they get to explore numerous concepts that elaborate on the show's worldbuilding. Say what you want about its larger narrative being unfocused, but you still certainly get a good idea on how this world functions, what its people are like, etc. As fickle as the format is, being episodic gives a lot of opportunity for worldbuilding, like one giant mural you can keep adding onto. Not only that, but shows like KND, as a result of this format, are very good at spurring the imagination in their viewers. Since KND is a children's show, I can imagine this made watching the show as a child very very exciting.
At the same time, things only get elaborated on so much. You get the compelling idea, then it flies past. Then you're sitting there hoping you'll see it again; more often than not it doesn't come back. Although I am very satisfied and have tons of fun watching this show, I find myself asking so many questions. What did the KND do to make Mr. Wink and Mr. Fibb look like that? Did they do the same thing to Crazy Old Cat Lady and Miss Goodwall? Why did Wink and Fibb leave their club? Where's Hoagie's father? When will Abby get more opportunities to be vulnerable/show flaws? What is this organization all the villains seem to work under? Does this organization have any association with that fucking supermarket they all go to? Why do they even keep XXXL if xey don't seem to have much interest in fighting the KND unless they directly inconvenience xem? Why did Cree join the Teen Ninjas? Does the KND know about Lasso Lass? What the fuck was Laura Limpin's deal?
I'll stop there with my questions; you get the deal. As much as it's fun to fill in the blanks myself, it would be nice to see some of these ideas in action. It doesn't help that some questions relate to KND's seemingly larger narrative, something you'd think they would want to make an episode on but they just didn't. It leaves me restless. The world morphs faster than the characters that live in it. You have such good, imaginative ideas and then you go to the next thing. I love it and I hate it. What was the deal with Mr. Fibb and Mr. Wink. What was it. You guys would've wondered the same. Curse my autismo life.
DARK KND THEORY: Knightbrace and Toiletnator used to be lovers who had a child. Child was so ugly and freakish that they abandoned him in nasty alley in a cardboard box. They also got divorced and that's why they hate eachother in the show. The child was then raised by street rats Mowgli-style. The child's name? Count Spankulot.

Im so happy its canon my faves park like absolute pieces of shit. Covering the other cars ruining the road crushing everything else. XXXL I can get but fucking fibb and wink? I thought they were polite motherfuckers. ok they do drive death machines and bully little babies but I imagined they would have more respect for the roads that's adult territory. Maybe they dont care. Maybe neither of them can fucking drive and this thing is like a self driving car so they just have to live with this shame. Maybe they dont care. I like that theyre mean. yay!
As I've seen em in a post once, is your sona a bearded vulture/lammergeier (or inspired by one)?? π

From the Nashville Zooβs fb page! Hereβs the petition, please please please take a moment to add your name (even if youβre not from Nashville!). If you are from Tennessee, contact your representatives and make it clear that the people do not want this data center. This is an AZA accredited zoo which is home to several species of critically endangered animals, we NEED to protect it. Make your voice heard!
Also, these datacenters hum and vibrate a lot, often in ways humans can't hear, but many animal species can hear, this would be absolute torture for them
