bug of the day

I am not sure yet what species this micro moth is, but the photo was so cute, I wanted to share.

The transition from not being able to find a spotted lanternfly at all to finding spotted lanternflies on every host plant I check has been less than ideal...

I daresay that the nymphs of the leaf-footed bug known as Acanthocephala terminalis are hella more charismatic than the adults!

Not exactly sure of the id on this plume moth (possibly genus Dejongia) but the family remains every amazing to ogle when individuals show up at the light.

I cannot help but wonder what this antlion and Isabella tiger moth are whispering to each other...

A very lovely dogwood Thyatirid (Euthyatira pudens) from last moth's blacklighting.

I never get tired of these amazing terminal net-winged beetles (Caenia dimidiata). The antennae are real and they are spectacular!

Found this spider sitting not far from a shell of its former self, on the underside of a lilac branch. iNat tentatively id'd it as genus Mimetus.

This little Dimorphic Jumping Spider (Maevia inclemens) was hanging out at the bug light earlier this month.

Found this small spider hiding under an oak leaf during a rainstorm. It appears to be a type of running crab spider (Philodromidae family).

I would be lying if I said I was not startled upon discovering this huuuuuge dark fishing spider (Dolomedes tenebrosus) on top of my composting bin while walking around my yard in the wee hours last August...I might even have emitted a large yelp lol

Was out checking my bug light the other night because it was ridiculously warm during the day (80'F in October!). Unfortunately the moon was too bright for the bug lights to be active, but I did find this cute little sheetweb spider (Pityohyphantes sp.) on a shrub on the side of my house.

HAPPY ARACHTOBER!!! Please enjoy this adorable long grrl, who has acquired a large and rather gooey caterpillar dinner. Likely genus Tetragnatha.
