The Contra Innovation Prize...
...awarded in partnership with The University of Greenwich
Leading educational institution, the University of Greenwich, are neighbours of Contra’s. Their newest building - on Stockwell Street, Greenwich  - is a stone’s throw away from us, in fact...
Last year, Roberto (our MD) and Ruth (our Client Partner) gave a guest lecture to some of the University’s students...and via this event, a firm friendship with the University began.
So when Dr. Gauti Sigthorsson, Principal Lecturer, Programme Leader, BA and MA Media & Communication, at the University, got in touch with us again, to ask if we’d be interested in sponsoring/getting involved in a special Innovation Prize - we had no hesitation in saying yes!
All the shortlisted works are exhibited at This is Change, the 2015 Degree Show of the Department of Creative Professions and Digital Arts. The Contra Innovation Prize is sponsored by Contra - yes, us! We are an award-winning agency working across web, design, video, mobile and social media. Projects eligible for the prize come from the course MEDS1146 Advanced Projects, led by David Waterworth and Steve Kennedy at the University.
To read more about the Innovation Prize and the works themselves, have a look at Dr. Gauti Sigthorsson’s own blog post  - here: http://blogs.gre.ac.uk/media/2015/06/17/contra-innovation-prize/ and we’d also urge you to get along to the exhibition in person. It runs until the 28th June at the University’s fantastic Stockwell Street address - that’s the University of Greenwich, Stockwell Street, London, SE10 9LS.
The University building is easily reached by rail, bus or DLR and if you fancy taking the opportunity to pop along to see us too, to talk through how Contra could help you promote your own business, charity, or institution, get in touch with us and we can arrange to meet up and say hi. Greenwich has a wealth of wonderful cafes and yet, we still think we have the best coffee around - even if we do say so ourselves!
Well done to everyone who exhibited. Contra were very impressed with all the work and can see bright futures for all the students who contributed!
How digital impacts the culture of live events
The Cass MBA London Symposium 2015 event is much more than a conference, it's a collection of events hosted by London’s finest corporations and businesses, turning London into a classroom for four days. It gives guests the opportunity to engage with leaders, executives, founders and talented individuals in a unique and privileged way.
Because of the very nature of the event, happening in prime locations across London over a series of days, Cass needed to strongly consider how digital innovations could enhance the culture and impact of the event as well as improving communications. Â Contra are already a long standing partner with Cass and quickly rose to the occasion. Drawing on the global experience Contra has with providing digital delegate experiences and enterprise applications for KPMG, Contra were able to partner with Cass to advise, create and proudly sponsor a Web App that enables Cass to manage the communications for each event and promote innovation as a key value of the culture for the symposium.
The key to the success of the Cass Web App is not in just in its ability to communicate information about the events to delegates, it is much more subtle. Â The key is in reinforcing the values of the event. Â Practicing what is being preached and demonstrating to the delegates how the very concepts that are being discussed are put into practice. By investing in digital Cass are able to subtly enhance the culture of the event, marketing concepts to the guests while providing a valuable resource.
So next time you think you need to solve a physical problem, remember that digital can do much more than this. It is much as part of a live event as the staging, lighting, key notes and dare say it... the choice of wine!
Contra win Gold at EVCOM Awards 2015!
Contra's film department have once again been recognised by the industry for excellence in film making. Not one, but two of our films recently won at the 2015 EVCOM Screen awards. The EVCOM Screen Awards (formally IVCA) is the world’s largest corporate communication awards, recognising excellence in communication. In other words it is our oscars; to be nominated is an honour but to win once again is fantastic!
There was some stiff competition. Over 500 top communication professionals from the world of film, video, digital and live events celebrated a spectacular night of awards at the 2015 EVCOM event in London. As a leading London video production company, Contra was excited to be there and even more excited to win!

Ignore video content, at your peril!!
By Max GreensteinÂ
Over the last 15 Â years Contra have developed a pretty broad video portfolio, making films for more kinds of client than we can list. However, the large majority of our commissions have been to enhance, create and occasionally rehabilitate the media campaigns of universities and colleges across the country.
This is nothing to be sniffed at! It’s given us the opportunity to film with some of the world’s greatest minds (including Sir David Attenborough), capture malaria eradicating mosquitoes at 2,500 frames a second, as well as win international awards for things like post-production and cinematography.

What makes a successful university website?
By Ruth KentÂ
Contra know a thing or two about creating successful university and college websites. We’ve helped many educational institutions over the years and yes, we’re pretty well versed in what makes a university website a success.
So, where to start?
The Prince and the App
By Ruth KentÂ
If you’ve caught the news today, you’ll probably be aware that Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, is due to make his first public appearance since sex-based allegations were made against him recently. The prince will host a reception at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, tonight. But are you aware of Contra’s involvement in the WEF?
30,000 miles in 2 months... Digital miles for KPMG
For the last 18 months Contra have been partnering with KPMG developing digital solutions to help streamline the running of their summits and events as well as enhancing the delegate experience.  We have dreamed, imagined, experimented, solved and ultimately created and designed an ecosystem of apps that allow delegates to register, check-in, explore, engage, communicate, interact with speakers, each other and the world. Â
Traveling to exotic locations across 4 continents hasn’t been all that bad either!
Thanks KPMG, enjoying working together.

Clients: How to run a pitch
By Ruth KentÂ
Are you planning a new project or series of projects? Need a new agency? You’ll probably be running a pitch...in that case, here is our guide to running the perfect pitch.
The general process:
A well run pitch will start with a Request for Information (RFI). You should send this to no more than ten agencies. Why? Because combing through responses takes time. Next stage is your Request for Proposal (RFP). In between sending that out, and having agencies in to pitch for you, you could consider mid-way meetings or ‘tissue sessions’. Ahead of the tissue sessions, agencies may ask for Q&A opportunities. The more contact-time and clarity you can provide throughout the pitch process, the more you’ll get back in terms of solid, on-brief responses. When the process is over, be prepared to give honest feedback to all pitch participants. They deserve it and will be able to evolve from it.
