BIOGRAPHY !
Charlotte Durnam was barely sixteen when she gave birth to her daughter, Penelope. It was a shock to her parents since it didn't fit with their classic Beverly Hills lifestyle. Penny's father tried to do his best to be there for Charlotte, but it was clear neither were ready for the commitment of marriage. He stayed in contact with Charlotte, then it became harder when he moved away for college and after a semester away he stopped calling altogether. At first Charlotte tried to stick around at home, but it didn't work out. At the age of eighteen, she made it as far as Aurora Bay before she ran out of money. Thankfully, an elderly woman named Louise was looking for a live-in companion to help her with daily tasks and she was all too happy to give Charlotte and little Penny the space to grow. Charlotte knew that despite the stability, her job with Louise wouldn't last forever. She got a nursing degree from Aurora Bay College and when Louise died, Charlotte began working at the hospital and the two of them moved to Fisher's Cove.
Penny had a stable life, despite being close in age with her mother, the two acted more like best friends than anything else. She was a curious child and was interested in the world around her. Every couple of months, she would get a call from her father, which felt like a treat. Penny knew that her mom worked hard to provide for her, so she grew up appreciative of what she had. Every year, her and her mom would make the drive to her grandparent's house to celebrate the holidays. Penny remembers them fondly, but she knew it was tense for her mother. Because of her mom's strained relationship with her parents, Penny's relationship with her grandparents was also a bit strained. And despite Penny's father showing up occasionally, she rarely counted on him to show up.
Instead of going to Aurora Bay High School, Penny's grandparents paid for her to go to a private school. It was at school that she met Jack, a sophomore who was decently popular. Through her new friend, she met Cassie Covington and became close with her and her friend group. Penny loved high school, joining her school's cheerleading squad and the school newspaper. She was well liked by everyone in the school. While she could get intense about her grades, she really did flourish. From a young age, Penny knew she wanted to travel. When her friends all told her about a trip to England they were taking over the summer, Penny begged her mom to let her go with them. She used all her savings from her grandparents, dad, and the money her mom gave her to be able to go with her friends. The trip was amazing and gave her a real taste at what the world was really like and she loved it. On their trip, the group met a group of English friends their own age. Penny loved meeting new people and making new friends. She was happy when one of them named James decided to come visit them in California and she was happy even when Cass and James started dating.
It was only after James and Cass started dating did Jack ask her out. Penny had a crush on him for so long, she was glad that he finally saw her that way. Unlike other groups, theirs didn't fall apart after graduation. Penny decided not to go out of state for college, wanting to study journalism at Aurora Bay College. She and Jack's relationship only grew more as time went on, but there was always something off about the relationship. Jack would leave dates early whenever Cass called crying about something James did or said, not even bothering to apologize to Penny. She tried not to think too much about it because everything with them seemed alright. After graduating college, Jack asked if she wanted to get an apartment together. They'd both gotten jobs in Aurora Bay; Penny had gotten a job at the newspaper, not exactly her dream job, but being close to home was important to her. It seemed like everything was going well for her, for her friends, for her mom.
When Cass announced that she was pregnant, Penny couldn't be happier for her friend. She knew that her relationship with James had been getting rocky and she was honestly, but she figured if they were at that point, they'd probably worked everything out. Jack's mood was sour for days after and Penny had no idea why, she tried to stay out of his way. When Rosalie was born and James moved to California, Penny expected it to be like it was before, but a lot had changed between the friend group. She had her own career to focus on and her own troubles to focus on, so she mostly paid attention to herself. She did notice that Cassie seemed to be a good mother and that's all that mattered to her.
Then New Year 2025 happened. Cass had made it seem like it was going to be a lowkey event. Penny had a deadline at work and couldn't arrive until later, needing to take some pictures for the paper of Aurora Bay's celebrations. But what it was, ended up being a huge part, more like a frat party than anything else. By the time she arrived it was in full swing. And that's when Penny found Cass and Jack in bed together. She had always thought that he secretly liked Cassie, but he was with her and that mattered more than his feelings for their friend. Apparently she meant nothing. Jack blamed it on Penny, said if she'd been there earlier, it could have been her in that bed instead. Penny got angry and stormed out. Finding a quieter space in the corner of the party, which is when Cass found her. She told Penny there was no reason to mope. It was a new year after all, and maybe all Penny needed was a couple of drinks and then she could join them. "I've always liked you, Penny." “And what about James?” “We’re over.” And she was too shocked to say anything. But she didn't say no when Cassie kissed her, didn't say no when she led her to her room, didn't say no to the threesome or the drugs and alcohol that night. She secretly wanted to feel loved.
The next morning though when she woke up, naked in Cass's bed, Penny got out of bed to a note, an unlocked phone, a text, and a realization. The note: We're going to get breakfast and didn't want to wake you. — XO Cass. The text from Jack: Penny, I don't think we should be together anymore. I need you to move out of our apartment effective immediately. Cassie's phone, unlocked, recounting years of sexting with Jack behind her back of secretly sleeping together. The realization: Jack had never liked her and Cass had been manipulating her from the start. The next few months were rough on Penny, dealing with the fall out of her friendship with someone she loved as well as the heartbreak. She decided she didn't want to keep her head down and figured a little fun wouldn't hurt. After meeting a man in his late 30s, she figured she'd have a bit of fun for a while, then go on her way. That couple of weeks turned into a couple of months, though she did break it off with him midway through September of 2025. Towards the end of October, she noticed a few odd things happening with her health and made a doctor's appointment, only to find out that she'd pregnant. She has yet to tell anyone, scared of what her mom might think and terrified of what her ex might think.
HEADCANONS !
Penny doesn’t drink in her apartment, even before the pregnancy she would go out for a glass of wine rather than buy a bottle for the apartment. The only time she really drank was out at the bar or at parties with friends. She preferred non alcoholic beverages at dinner parties she hosted.

"As your roommate I'm kind of obligated to take offense to that," he teases, thinking that he actually keeps the apartment pretty well kept. "It's just our chore chart is kinda whack right now because we're picking up after someone who can't even hold their head up yet." He's pretty sure if there was a category for it at the Olympics, Penny's baby would be a gold medalist for kicking off their booties. He finds those things everywhere.
Diego doesn't care that Penny is a mess. He thinks perfect is boring. "Being messy is just being human, though?" he counters, "you're good dude." Diego's desperately trying to not mess this up, but he's kind of panicking. "I have a crush on you, too. I don't know if I'm supposed to say that right now. I'm not sure if that's reassuring or making things more complicated? I don't want you to think I'm only sticking around because I have feelings for you or only saying that to make you feel better. I mean, kind of, but I really do care about you? As a person. Like, I'd still like you even if I didn't have a crush on you?"
Maybe it's just her room that's a mess. Penny can't seem to keep anything entirely straight and she's always been the type to not want a single thing out of place. Even a bottle on the counter has been setting her off. But Penny doesn't say that. "But you shouldn't have to come home from a long shift to the dishes still in the sink. That's what roommates are for." Their chore chart was kind of really messed up lately.
"Yeah, but I just feel like everything for the last two years has sucked." And while she'd put on a good front, she felt like she should be put together more by now. With his confession, Penny can't help but laugh. Not at him or the confession. Maybe the first laugh she's had in months, not even from watching stupid television or reading a funny line in a book. Her energy has been all over the place since they met. "You're giving real I'd love you if you were a worm energy right now." She looked at him. "I'm a full believer that there is no perfect time." Penny's eyes flickered to his lips. "I think you should kiss me."
Emerson: How about both?
Emerson: I can bring some coffees for us, and bring tea bags for you to make later on? I'll bring variety
Emerson: Eating and sleeping usually is all a baby does. Still excited to meet her 💕
Penny: You don't have to do all that if you don't want to
Penny: Whatever you feel like doing! I can always ask Diego to grab some more tea from the store on the way home.
Penny: I thought they cried a lot. Maybe I just have a good baby.
Diego can't pretend he knows what Penny is going through, but as someone who specializes in health and specifically, children, he's seen his fair share of stressed moms "Well, for what it's worth, I think you're doing great. It probably doesn't feel like that, but we're like our own harshest critics, you feel? I got you, though. Whatever you need."
"I like you too, Penny," he smiles, the extent of her words not hitting him at first. Diego's so wrapped up in trying to offer support that he doesn't realize she might be confessing feelings for him. "Wait," he stops, the feeling of butterflies swirling around in his stomach as he considers that they may share the same feelings, "like you like like me?"
Her mom said it was tough. Not just the first few weeks, but everything was more difficult being a single mom. Penny had thought her mom was probably telling the truth. Considering that Penny was still alive and well meant something to her. And obviously, Penny's mom had help when she got to Aurora Bay. This was more difficult than she thought though. "The apartment's a mess. I feel overwhelmed." But it was kind of nice to hear that he thought she was doing alright. After all, Diego was in the medical field. Then again, so was her mom.
She shook her head. Obviously, Penny liked him. She wasn't sure when the romantic feelings happened or when she even noticed them. "Diego," she started, buting down on her lower lip. He couldn't feel the same. She was practically a night owl when she first moved in and now she had a baby. "Yeah. I told you it was stupid. I mean look at me, I'm a mess. I've been a mess since you met me. I'm crying over absolutely nothing. Just ignore me." Her brain clearly wasn't working very well if she was actually telling Diego how she'd been feeling.

Ivy - Does your muse find themselves overly dependent on something, regardless of whether they actually are or not?
"I rely on my mom a lot more than I probably should. Most people are codependent with a sibling or a best friend or a partner. But me? It's my mom. Aside from her, I totally think I reply on Diego a lot more than a normal roommate should. I mean who else is going to help me put a crib together and help me when I freak out over every little thing with my kid."
“ then let’s do a museum? There are so many that we can do and it’s a good place to just spend time with someone else. Especially if it’s things we both like “ Ruby noted as though she had already settled in the idea for the pair. It would be fun and despite Penny and parenthood she still wanted her friend to be able to have fun.
“ I’ve got it handled. I can also bring my sketchbook in if we want to upscale anything. I can ask my friend to come with me and look for materials for the room too. “ she offered. Ruby loved a project. Even if it wasn’t for views. “ do yellow. It’s not her room “ @pennydurnam
"Which type of museum is your favorite? Art? History? Something weird. When I was in DC, they had a International Spy Museum. It was pretty fun." Penny missed being able to travel. She wasn't going to get to do that anytime soon. "Getting out would be nice," she nodded. It was about to be something she wasn't going to be able to do that often. Penny wished that was going to be easy to be a single parent, she did have her mom but that was not going to be the same thing.
"Oh, a friend! Should I ask if Diego wants to join us too?" Penny figured that he'd probably help her. After all, he helped her put the crib together. "Yellow is such a good happy color. I think my mom painted my nursery blue because she wanted to spite her own parents."
Emerson: I still needed to ask to make sure ❤️
Emerson: Today works! I have the early shift at work, so I can be there around 3ish? I can bring lunch too if you'd like? Or a coffee/tea?
Penny: Tea might be nice.
Penny: Raleigh might be asleep, but that's about all she does anyway. Eat and sleep.
Penny: Actually, coffee might be better. I'm exhausted.
Connor: I've had a mild ferris wheel related trauma already this week, I'm unwilling to go through another one
Connor: Don't you think the beach will be crazy crowded?
@pennydurnam
Penny: Oh, well, then maybe sneak into the Lighthouse? That seems like a good place. A random house in Aurora Bay Drive?
Penny: The beach will probably be super crowded.
Penny: Unfortunately, I'll be watching from my own apartment.
“Your mother?” Bridget’s brows rose in immediate offence. That was, until she noticed the pram between them and the weary expression on the other’s face. Under any other circumstances, she would’ve taken the remark as a personal slight, but the younger blonde appeared far too preoccupied to have spared her more than a passing glance.
“I should hope she looks remarkable for her age, otherwise I’m deeply offended,” she added drily, tone carrying more humour than reproach.
Her gaze lingered on the infant for a little longer than necessary, her expression giving way to a small, almost wistful smile before she caught herself, quickly turning her attention back to who she assumed was the mother.
“I’ll forgive you on the basis that you appear to have your hands rather full.”
"My mom's 43." She hated that she had to tell people that. Not that Penny was ashamed of her mom or anything, but they were closer in age than most people would expect. She'd shocked quite a few people over her life. Penny still remembers the pitiful looks her teachers would give her when she was dropped off to school by her mom that wasn't even as old as they were.
Penny had offended plenty of people before and honestly, she shouldn't have to defend herself. There were plenty of teen moms.
"Uh, thank you, I guess? For being offended over nothing." It wasn't like people could tell she was raised by her someone so young.

Emerson: Hey!
Emerson: Hope I'm not being a bother, but I was wondering if you'd be okay with me coming over?
Emerson: I have a present for the baby, I've just been holding onto it as I didn't want to disturb you ❤️
@pennydurnam
In his experience whenever someone says they're fine, well, they're typically not. Diego's been told that he can be a bit too optimistic at times. It's not his intention to invalidate anyone so he's learned to dial it down a notch. Still holding her close, he can't help but run his hand along her cheek, "no, it's okay, you don't have to apologize." While he can't pretend to know what she's going through, he does have a good inkling as to what's happening. He's not trying to go all doctor on her, but he is worried, "What's wrong?"
She wiped the tears off her face. Penny didn't want this feeling anymore. She wanted to be back to her normal self and she wanted to go back to work soon. Realistically, Penny knew that a lot of new mothers felt this way and she knew that there was only so much she could do to help. Penny looked up at him, not pulling away from the hug. "I just feel overwhelmed. Like I'm doing everything wrong. How am I supposed to be in charge of a baby when I'm barely able to keep myself alive?" Penny sniffled. "And this is so stupid, but," she let out a small sigh. "I think I like you."
Bridget had seen it often enough over the years to recognise it instantly: the lingering glance, the flicker of uncertainty, the quiet debate over whether or not to come over. When they eventually did, she set her glass aside with a resigned smile. “If you’ve come over here for a photograph,” she began, “then I’m afraid I’m going to have to disappoint you.”
Penny was supposed to be meeting her mom out for lunch, but she was running behind. She'd been avoiding her mom as much as she could when Charlotte lived on the other side of town and kept coming over to help her. Penny knew that she couldn't spend her whole maternity leave avoiding going out. She was tired, she wasn't paying attention to where she was.
"I'm sorry, I thought you were my mom." Penny shifted, the stroller between her and the other blonde. She looked around.
“ well we should do an adventure. At least before you aren’t able to go on many alone. It could be fun” Ruby offered as she glanced back over to Penny with a smile. It was definitely good to get out once in a while, but in this case it was a must have sort of thing. “ yeah I think by that logic the Winchester Mystery House is fully off the table then. There are plenty of things to do a lot closer by too! It just depends on things you like. There’s a lot of really cool museums in the city if you like those?”
“ we can’t definitely make that work, especially if I can find a room divider that would be cute for both aesthetics. If anything i can use scrap fabric and do two different sides too. That way it could fit and cause a break without actually keeping you from the baby”@pennydurnam
"I love a good adventure. I'd love to get out of this town for a little bit too." Penny knew that she should be careful these days because there were people outside town she didn't want to run into, but she also didn't care. If she was having a fun time with someone, it wouldn't matter. "My grandparents live in Beverly Hills so I've been to a lot of museums closer to them. I wish I could go anywhere right now. Like all over the place visiting museums." She hadn't done anything fun since before Halloween. Penny had been too tired.
"Yes, I love that. I'm down for anything. It'll be nice to have something nice for the baby." Penny knew that she could plan on her own, but it was nice having some help too. "My mom thinks I should paint the room green, but I like yellow."
