The way things go in the book definitely has a kind of darkly humorous element to it because Louis is so transparent (whether he realizes it or not) about being sooo drunk and horny that Lestat didn’t even have to be charming about his pitch 😭 It’s a huge contrast from the show and it really sets the tone for the different versions of their relationship! From what I recall of the show, a lot of Louis’ pain in his relationship with Lestat comes from the betrayal of what he thought he was getting—a perfect lover who understands him on a soul level—only to be deeply hurt and disappointed.

In the book, it’s kind of the opposite where Louis is miserable largely because he knew exactly what he was getting into and he didn’t have the moral fiber to resist temptation even at his own expense. Book Lestat was mean, crass, demanding, etc right from the start, but his attractiveness and promises about the pleasure of vampire life played right into Louis’ secret desires so much that he still caved literally within a day. It really rubs salt in Louis’ I’m A Fucking Idiot Loser wound that informs most of his decision making throughout his time with Lestat in the Interview era.
