thinking about cleo in season 2, my girl was going through so much, feeling suffocated in a relationship, a breakup, missing him, missing the relationship they used to have, changes, her parents divorce, the whole being a mermaid and keeping it a secret thing, loneliness, her dad moving on, the time when she really needs her mom, her best friends fighting and trying to be the peace maker while also not getting involved while also just trying to be a teenage girl.
I think a lot of people that see this show as cringey or over dramatic forget that these girls are preteens to teens to young adults. That shift is a crazy time for hormones. If anything I think all of them handled it so well, I would be crashing out so hard.

shame, knowing your being outrageous and doing it anyway, not feeling understood, not feeling good enough, jealousy, despair, running away, FEELING ALONE, her mom never mentioned on screen again? no visit, no phone calls, ‘were we not good enough for her to stay?’ ‘Why doesn’t anyone stay?’ mindset, trust issues, what looked like (to me) potential suicidal thoughts or at the very least not caring for her life, “wishing everything to go back how it was”, her dad still treating her as a kid but an adult at the same time and how confusing that can be, older sister, missinghermommissinghermommissinghermommissinghermom-
