I have a different opinion, if it were presented as a character flaws and that he has a long way to grow - U would liked it, actually.

Almost every comic they did could have been so much better, by simply presenting certain things as character flaws and changing characters motivations from time to time.

Without his scar Zuko looks like ctrl-v ctrl-c NPC from some two minutes side-quest.
