Any competent...
...radio operator will be able to tell you that the frequency the barracks legend says you need to tune your 'mechs comms to literally could not exist. But the truth never undermined a good legend.
So suppose you do it- sit in your 'mech at night, the hangar silent around you, radio tuned to that impossible frequency. They say you hear pilots from across the galaxy. Across the universe. Across the universes. Pilots fighting wars against enemies you've never heard of, using machines you might think too powerful to exist or too primitively absurd to be possible- but there they are, chatting in your headset. They've all heard the legend, same as you, although for some it's a psionic link and for some it's a telegram, but they're all tuned in to a channel that shouldn't exist.
The reason it's dangerous, of course, isn't that you'll "go mad" or something. Please. They're pilots, same as you: people who fight for some cause, or for their own fame and fortune, inside a shell of metal that walks like a giant. There's common ground all around, although you might need somebody to translate, depending on how many degrees tilted one participant's world is from yours. You won't go raving insane from it.
No, the reason it's dangerous is because- well- I'll tell you what I heard about the original story, which was, she kept tuning in. Sitting up until the gray brightness of dawn spilled into the hangar. Talking with people from worlds she would never see, trading tales of battles and training camps. But there was one night where a participant stopped talking and started screaming: their hangar was being attacked. And as they panicked and shouted, the sound of thumping on controls and ricocheting shots coming down that unchannel that shouldn't have been, she revved up her reactor, stomped out through the hangar doors- blasted them out of the way -and went to give backup in a war that she was in the wrong reality to fight in.
The footprints vanished at the doors. It was assumed a commando team from the enemy had made off with the 'mech- on a hover hauler, maybe, how else would there be no tracks? But we never saw her again. Although- if you fiddle with the radio just right, in between the crackles and hissing -when you tune in, for just a moment, to that non-channel -sometimes, for a millisecond at most, you can hear a snatch of her voice.

Happy May 1st, everybody! Remember to hang up the scorpion-shaped pinata and enjoy the traditional king-size crab cakes.
Nothing important. Move along, nothing to see here.
Always have been.

Hey, I can't make a post for the Clans and not include the Inner Sphere as well.
That feature would make everything worse. However, we here at Comstar are in support of things getting worse (for definitely not sinister reasons).
i love mechwarrior 5
A strange prototype with just one extra digit on the feet.

Battletech/Mechwarrior vs Gundam is kind of an interesting proposition because they grew up in slightly different but related scifi milieus, and each made different decisions about what to do semi-realistically and where to sacrifice realism for the sake of cool robots.
Your basic Zaku is like the size and durability of an Assault Mech with the speed and maneuverability of a Light Mech, but only armed with something like an AC10 and a melee weapon in Battletech terms.
On land it would be terrifying, but Battletech space fighters are on a whole other level, basically Valkyries from Macross (sometimes literally).
On the non-mech side, Battletech has infantry in powered armor and tanks with lasers or PPCs, while Gundam ground troops, even decades after the One Year War, mostly use gear that wouldn’t look out of place in the Vietnam War, or even WWII.
Gundam spaceships tend to primarily rely on ECM, decoys, and point-defense guns to survive, and die in just a couple hits from each others’ weaponry, while Dropships and Warships in Battletech are balls of armor with engines on the bottom.
The fact that you can't play as a woman in mechwarrior 5 mercenaries is so lame. A vast majority of the people I know who are into battletech are women, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one disappointed by this. It's not that hard to do. Honestly just makes me sad :(

"What the fuck is a hound?"
The General-rank Handler stares with disbelief at her underlings as they try to explain how the basis of her command structure actually looks like.
"I didn't know! I point places on a map and things happen!"
They hand her the handlerbook.
"We do WHAT to those girls?!"
The average experience of someone getting hired at ComStar. They think they work in telecom, but actually? Death cult (or sex cult, depending on the sect, I'm sure).
