As per the latest updates, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has organised a specialised training programme in Kashmir. The Programme aimed at helping fruit growers enhance export readiness and boost access to international markets. Moreover, the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen fruit production, improve fruit prices for farmers, and enhance India’s horticulture exports through better global market integration.

Interestingly, the programme emphasised export-oriented fruit farming attributes, such as quality standards, modern packaging techniques, certification processes, post-harvest management, and understanding of international trade requirements. In addition, fruit growers were also guided on meeting global food safety standards 

Strawberry production in Gujarat’s Dang district has recorded a remarkable 65% increase over the past three years, highlighting a major transition from traditional crops like nagli to high-value horticulture farming. Farmers in the region are increasingly shifting toward the Sweet Charlie strawberry variety, supported by improved cultivation practices, stronger market access, and government-backed horticulture initiatives.

The rapid rise in cultivation is also driven by increasing strawberry prices and growing demand from urban consumers and food processing industries. Compared to conventional farming, strawberry cultivation is offering better returns, encouraging more farmers to expand production and adopt commercial fruit farming.

Agriculture experts say modern farming techniques such as drip irrigation, mulching, and controlled cultivation practices have significantly improved fruit quality and productivity. These advancements are helping boost agricultural growth while increasing income opportunities for small and marginal farmers across the district.

Officials believe the success of strawberry farming in Dang reflects the growing importance of high-value crops and horticulture-led development in Gujarat’s agricultural sector.

The growing diesel crisis in Kutch has raised serious concerns among industries, transport operators, and exporters across Gujarat’s major industrial corridor.
